First off, check your state laws. I know in mine, no one has to educate their child in any way until they are 8 years old!

Secondly, after all the other suggestions, read a bunch and hang out with other homeschoolers.

If you are able to clean out your mind of the 'school' image, you will find that you transition fairly naturally into it, as it's just an extension of good parenting.
