Ohh! Hello Fella Knitters & Crocheters!
I taught myself how to knit a couple of years ago.. but I haven't tried increasing/decreasing yet. Thank you for the instructions. I think I don't hold the needles correctly. I can't knit standing, and as I've heard the story many times, my great grandmother walked to town and knitted one sock, and on the way home, knitted the other. So... I have much to learn... but I can knit and purl. I've made several dishcloths and a couple of scarves which I've given away.
I've been crocheting for years and years. Fro the last several years I've made afghans for gifts. Last year I made one. I thought it would take about 3 weeks, but it took 10 months! I was sick a lot. I wanted it to be large enough for the newlyweds to snuggle together in. I made it in squares. After I started assembling it, I realized that not only did the squares have a front & a back, they also had an up and a down. So... another lesson learned.
Every time I do a project, I learn something. I rarely use the same pattern twice. So many projects, so little time.
I'm now working on another afghan similar to the one I made last year for someone who saw it and asked. Assembly should be easier. :)

I just started learning to how to knit. I learned from youtube. I tried using websites and books They all show it right handed, and being left handed it looked backward to me. Once I found a video of someone knitting left handed I was able to pick it up.
I'm just practicing still, so I'm sure I'll have a lot of dish towels. My main goal is to have a few pairs of leg warmers knit for my daughter by next winter. I've put a few pattern books on hold at the library, but I'm way down the queue so I figure I'll just practice until the books come in and then start on projects.

That's a great idea about using library books! I never thought about that. I've seen magazines with patterns at Michaels and Hobby Lobby but never bought them because I didn't want to spend the money. Library books area great alternative.

I was randomly looking through my library one day and came across the knitting section. I picked out a few books in hopes they would teach me how and ended up coming across some great patterns. So I photocopied them to hold on to for the day I actually learn to knit. Makes the hobby a bit more affordable!

Definitely!
I know how to knit and crochet. So far, my only finished products are crocheted baby blankets from a pattern on the back of a yarn skein label in Michael's. After I finish this skein, though, I'd like to try crocheting a black summer sweater. I love the lacy-looking ones. The library will be a good place to start looking for patterns. Thanks for the tip!

I just got back from a visit to my family--made a "rainbow" serape (fringed cape) for my nephew--in one day (worked on it all day because wanted it finished before I had to leave). It turned out pretty cute...and he was satisfied with it, though he didn't think I did EVERYTHING right....
Also finished a baby blanket. Dimensions are a bit off since I was guessing at the pattern. Will probably give it to a friend's daughter who is having a baby.
Did not make much progress on the project for the church, but will keep at it more now I'm home.

I did NOT make the saddle blanket for my son's horseshow. There wasn't enough time. His father bought him a saddle blanket as a birthday present (he had his birthday at the show). I did make a multistrand chain to hold the ribbons--tried to estimate how long to make it so that it wouldn't look too bare if he didn't get many ribbons but still have enough room for them all...then he borrowed a horse for a couple of extra classes and we could barely fit all the ribbons on the chain (classes were small, so every competitor got a ribbon in each class)

No, I haven't started the sweater yet. For some reason I've lost the urge to crochet -- not sure why. But I'm sure it will return. When it does, I'll need to finish a baby blanket first and then start the sweater.

Lexie, I know what you mean about trying to find books etc that teach you how to knit left handed. I was really lucky in that when I went to Girls Brigade as a kid, the person who taught me to knit and purl was a left hander. Was never taught to cable or anything like that, but that doesn't matter. It looks way too hard for me.
Creationtalk, strangely enough, it hasn't cooled down in the days. Nights aren't bad, but you'd think it were still summer here instead of fall. I still have to sit by a fan or near the air conditioner during the day when I knit.
I think I'm up to about number 16 scarf out of about 40. Still a ways to go.

I finally finished sweaters for my boys (for this coming winter) yesterday. Now I've started on a ladies short-sleeve shirt, lots of cables. Had to take out 1 1/2 rows today because I forgot two of the six cables in the previous row... yuck! Need to hurry and finish it so I can make a couple more hand towels. Then I'm going to brush up on my crocheting.

The only piece of clothing that I'm comfortable knitting is scarves. I don't know enough to make other things. I wouldn't have a clue how to cable. In any case, after I've finished knitting all the scarves, I'm going to be taking a rest from knitting. My hands are cramping up a lot these days. I don't know whether it's because I'm spending so much time knitting, or whether it's my fibromyalgia.

I have finally finished the "words" part of my filet crochet project for the church and will finish the logo soon. Once that is done, the border should go fairly quick. The volunteer crew that has been helping build our church is coming back in June. I hope to have this finished and framed when they come back.
My second job (teaching) ended (except posting grades for the lab, which have not yet been sent to me) on Tuesday and I don't plan to teach again next year, so I'm hoping to have some time to make a few things. Like a big blanket for at work. Even with my sweater and jacket I'm FREEZING. I have lots of plans for sweaters as well.

Im knitting a scarf, my frinds think I gone mad lol, all say its an old peoples hobby, but I enjoy it, the cost of the scarf is more cos I am using fancy yarn, Was told i'ld get a bargin if i went and got a scarf from the shops lol.

Over here, knitting and sewing are back in fashion. The other day I was looking at yarn, and 2 teens behind me were looking for yarn to make sweaters out of. I say that if you enjoy knitting, keep doing it. It gives you something productive to do, and something to wear!

Bambi - no bargain department will ever carry a handcrafted, unique-in-the-world scarf like the one you're making! Anybody can buy a scarf but not many people are creative and dedicated enough to make one themselves. Knitters unite and be proud  .
