Status: offline 		You can still be a source of encouragement to someone even when you can't identify with the struggles they are going through. Even when you can't show empathy, you can still lift one another up in prayer, bear one another's burdens (which does tend to help when there is a lack of empathy)....

So I can't really agree with the OP, but I would suggest that apathy, rather than a lack of empathy is a better definition of evil.

Status: offline 		I think this can be summed up quickly:

God is love and shows pity (Jesus on the cross is the greatest example of pity in the universe).

People are born sinners, and don't experience pity because they are spiritually dead. Society is pretty unChristian so pity is not found there.

Born-again people are capable of feeling pity and acting on it because God is making us like Jesus (Rom. 8:29).
