that is so the perfect job for Brian! And it is hilarious. And the irony is so rich. Seriously. You can't write better stuff than that!!

Although...I can just imagine Brian as the other kind of ''escort'' and that makes me laugh so hard I wanna pee myself.

Not that it probably takes much effort to pee yourself at this point...

It is pretty darn hysterical. I'm glad I have friends with warped senses of humor.

Donna, the only probalem with the escort thing is that they need to pass laws that say EVERY road hogging vehicle needs to have an escort. Most of the huge stuff around here is traveling down both lanes and no one is in front of them.

Our insurance claim is completely exhausted. Truthfully, I'm surprised it lasted this long. We're not sure what is going to happen now. SSDI is still pending, and they won't tell us any more information than that.

You mean there's no provision for covering ongoing care? That's just not right!

No. When you buy car insurance, you pay for the amount of coverage you want. That's all you get from your own insurance company. It was good we had twice what the law requires or we would have been in this boat way back in December. Medicaid will now pick up the medical bills. It's the wage loss that we were getting that is a problem.

Well, miraculously, and still unoffically...it looks like his SSDI is approved. After all the times we have been told that everyone gets denied at first. We still haven't heard anything from SSDI themselves, but the lady at social services was able to access their computers from hers, and it looks like his case is approved. I have an appointment for the kids and I July 14th.

So...I don't know when it's coming, but it is coming. I did not apply for cash assistance, as that would require me to find a job and put my kids in daycare (even though the county would likely pay more for daycare than I would probably make!). We're just going to hold on and hope that money comes in within a month. I know our church and my mom's church will help us if we really need something.

That's great news. I thought if you had kids under school age they didn't require you work. In PA that's the case.

It's a state issue, so it varies from state to state. In our state I believe she would be required to work.

If I was a single mom with kids under 6, I would not have to work. Even if I had a live in boyfriend. But because we are a married with two parents household, I would have to, even though he is disabled and not able to care for them alone for long periods of time.

Donna, please forgive my ignorance, but "cash assistance" as opposed to what?

Cash assistance is welfare-welfare, sometimes called TANF. As opposed to food stamps or medical assistance. It's cash (well, on a debit card now) and you don't have to account for how it is spent.

That is just crazy that because you are married you would be required to work! You would think there would be an exemption for a disabled spouse! I mean, you don't only need to care for the children, but him too. I know he's able to take care of himself, but not right after surgery etc... and times he can't drive, but needs to get to PT... And the fact that if you lived together & weren't married, you wouldn't have to work just irks me!!

Yeah, me too, but I don't have the emotional energy to be irked right now, so I'm letting it go.

The lady that I dealt with agreed with me that the rules are not fair or helpful in a situation like ours. I was in a mess of tears when she told me I would have to work to get help, and she was close to it herself. THEN we discovered the SSDI was approved, and I left in a much better state.

I was already a mess when I got there and then a very irritable police officer yelled at me in the DSS waiting room and pushed me over the edge to tears. I mean...he YELLED at me. Esther was toddling around the waiting area, happy as could be. She didn't have shoes on, but she rarely does and the floor was clean. She is a bit unsteady walking now, but not too bad, and she almost always falls on a well-fattened bottom and then gets back up and tries again. I was talking to her, and so were other people in the room. Jerk-officer came out and told me that I was not watching her (I was!), that she was too little to be walking around (she's not!), that I needed to keep her under control (what? she wasn't bothering anyone or anything...she's a baby!). I did not want to be there at all for the purpose I was there for, and his cruel words to me just crushed the last bit of dignity I was trying to hold onto. I couldn't hold back the tears. Several people were also shocked with the officers words toward me, and I appreciated them all telling me I had done nothing wrong. We waited over 2 hours there. I bet that guy had no idea how hard it is to keep an active, wiggly baby happy and STILL for that long. I was settling for happy. I didn't know she needed to be still and we shouldn't talk to any of the other peasants. Good grief. This has bothered me all day, that someone who does not know me would so loudly and publicly tell me I am a bad mother. I know it should not bother me, but it does. Maybe I did do something wrong and I am just such a bad parent that I don't know it? Good thing I hadn't brought Levi with me. I'd have offered to leave the little tornado with the officer for the day! No, not really. I would never subject my very normal 2 year old to such a mean person as that. I will nevereverever bring my kids there with me if I don't have to.
