Gustav is making landfall right now in southern Louisiana - we need to be praying for everyone along the Gulf coast and inland - as this thing is going to East TX and stalling - dumping monumental amounts of rain - so potential for lots and lots and lots of inland flooding.

Status: offline 		I have to go into work - which is just fine - it'll actually be really nice WX where I am now that the storm is technically north of me and it pulls all the moisture with it.....but, we've also got Hanna out to the east of us....so.......during this time of year, we don't take out eyes off the tropics.

Status: offline 		I wonder how people lived in that area before storm tracking was around. Must have been tough to get hit with a storm and not really know it was coming.

Status: offline 		I was just talking to one of the DIRT members yesterday and he was telling me how he was once down in the Dominican Republic and got a call saying a large hurricane was on their doorstep - they had NO idea - and this was not too long ago!

Yep, that's why there were always SO many deaths in years past - people just weren't prepared and couldn't get out of the way of the surge.

Status: offline 		I just took a look at the hurricane season and I think they should make more of an effort to name them tougher. There is a Nana on the list this year. Come on, who's going to flee when they hear Nana's coming?

So far we are fine but they flew the planes out of one of the local bases and I'm sure they did the other. Cable keeps coming and going so if/when we lose it completely I'll be in touch with ArmyDude/ArmyWyfe to keep you guys posted.

Status: offline 		Thanks! Of course I'm concerned about the LA and TX area where Gustav is hitting, but I'm sure we'll get spin off tornadoes and stuff like that. We do have friends with a basement so we can dart over there if we need to, but pray we don't because I haven't dressed yet...LOL I guess I could but that would mean moving from the couch.

I took a quick shower and now we're just waiting to see what happens. I believe our tornado warning is over, but I do know tornadoes were spotted on one of the bases...*shrug* will keep you guys updated.

I just realized that it is September, and in two weeks I vacate my 20s. It hasn't bothered me up until now - now I feel a weird sense of panic! It's just a year!
