BenQuebec -> What should I do if I get spam in my PM inbox? (8/16/2005 2:59:44 PM)

We've seen a recent pattern of our community users receiving spam via PM (private messages), and so I wanted to address this issue.

TOS #13 states the following:

quote:

13. You will not post or transmit any unsolicited advertising, promotional materials or any other forms of solicitation.

Please be aware that this includes PM's, and any PM violators will be immediately banned from the community to prevent more spam being sent to others.

(1) What do I do if I receive an unsolicited PM?

If you receive any PM's from people wishing to transmit unsolicited advertising, promo materials or any forms of solicitation, please file a report immediately to prevent the spam from being sent to others.

(2) How do I file a report?

For the moment, we don't have a link that allows you to report a PM offense. Thus, go to the nearest post and click on the Report link located on the bottom right, as if you were going to report that post.

Please specify that you are reporting PM spam, then specify the exact username of the person who sent you the PM and paste the contents of the unsolicited PM into the report. Please also include the link to the PM in your report.

Filling out a report will allow us to ban the user immediately to prevent more spam from being sent to other users. Please help us keep the community spam-free by reporting it when you see it whether in the forums or in a PM.

Thanks!

Clarification on filing reports.

Simply go to the nearest post and click on the Report link. It doesn't matter if it's my post or that of any other user. Sometimes a PM spammer won't have any posts to report, so any post will do. Just click the Report link on the nearest post - any post - as if you were going to report that post.

Then specify that you're reporting PM spam and not that post. Then specify the username (exactly as shown) of the spammer, and copy and paste the contents of the spam onto the report.

If you PM a moderator, there's no gurarantee that the mod you PM will be online or able to deal with it right away. Filing a report will ensure that the spam is dealt with as quickly as possible.

Think of this TOS violation like a piece of china in a gift shop. If they break it, they're gonna pay for it. But we need your help in locating the offenders. Again, thanks for helping us keep the forums spam-free. [:)]
