Gone with the Wind is one of my favorites but it did not bring me to tears. As for the attraction to Scarlett, well she did little for me. Melanie was far more attractive and interesting. Rhett was great. The pseudo slave auction probably made me laugh to tears.
Try The Witch of Cologne by Tobsha Learner. That was the last one which brought me to tears and will probably have more of an appeal to females. I'm guessing? It was a great read.

Ok ... as a guy, no I do not (will probably get in trouble for this comment, sorry).
But I came close a few years ago with reading my favorite book, Uncle Tom's Cabin. When Tom is sold, he is forced to leave his wife Chloe and his kids. For me, that was gut wrenching. I wrestled with many different emotions and find that section hard to re-read.
I will not get specific (for those that have not read it), but The Shack was very moving during a certain part.

I didn't like scarlett too terribly much...and then I realized the many ways we were similar though I'm not all for that lying, cheating, murdering bit...I really grew to like her through the sequel (scarlett)...definitely cried at the end of that one too - I'm such a sap!

I cried while reading the Gospel of Matthew the other day. I've been a Christian for 15 years and I've read that book many, many times. It's not like it was a shocker. I knew what was going to happen.

I cried while reading the book, "Wisdom Hunter," by Randall Arthur as I felt the wave of freedom pushing open the doors of legalism in my life.
I also cried while reading "The Notebook," "The Wedding" and "A Walk to Remember"by, Nicholas Sparks, which was very strange because they were so far outside of the realm of my "normal" reading habits.

I read a LOT and I end up crying the majority of the time, I also cry during movies!

I cry a lot during sad books also during movies. I cried while I read New Moon, and a few other books whose names escape me.

oh my goodness yes!! i was at school reading Where The Red Fern Grows and when Old Dan died i started crying my eyes out in front of everyone!!! it was soo embarrassing!

I cried when Aslan died in lion witch and wardrobe.
Marley and Me. (the movie.)
A cat named Dewey.
I got a little choked up in the last book of The Door within Trilogy.

just finished the time traveler's wife. wow. lovely. and sad. not sure what to say about it, really. it's a novel about love, discovery, free will and fate. an exploration of relationships and connection and disconnection and identity and poetry and art (or the artistic process. the creative process?). about longing and healing and hope and fear (of the known and unknown). about writing history - one's own and the story of those around us. about language and the ineffable and mystery. about truth and lies and revelation. read it.
oh. and i did cry.

Anything by Karen Kingsbury! I have cried reading all of the books of hers I have read. All of the Baxter books, all of the Fame books, oh my gosh! She is just the best writer ever! I feel like I know all of the Baxters personally! I want to be a member of their family.
I think the book I liked the best was the one where one of the Baxters had a baby that would only live for a few hours and they didn't have an abortion, even though they knew the baby wouldn't live long. Sob?! I sobbed for a long time after that one. I am the one who cries at sad songs, sad movies, if it's sad, I will cry. I even cry at Christmas Carols at church! Emothional? You bet! LOL

It was very difficult to read Stonewall Jackson's death scene at the end of Mary Johnstone's book The Long Roll. (I was reading it aloud to my 11 and 13 year old daughters).

I haven't read any of the other posts, so someone may have mentioned this book already. But the first time I cried while reading a book I was in the eighth grade, reading Where the Red Fern Grows. Such a wonderful book, and I recommend it for everyone if you haven't read it already. I was in eighth grade, but it is still a book that would be enjoyable for adults.
Here is a summary of the book...

As it is financially out of the question for his parents to buy them, he works and saves for two years to buy them himself, then hikes barefoot sixty miles round-trip over the mountains and through the woods to the nearest town to pick them up. He then spends months training the pups to be the best coon hounds in the hills.
His dreams all come true as he spends every night out hunting in the hills with his dogs, and their fame spreads far and wide. Billy and his dogs are so good that his grandfather enters them in a championship coon hunt against grown men.
Arguably the greatest boy-and-dog story of all time, this is, for many kids, the book that introduces them to the power of literature. It's pretty easy to get me to cry while reading, so long as the book is well-written. I'm a pretty emotional reader :). I do remember throwing The Count of Monte Cristo across the room when I finally got to the end.
I cried during the reading of many books (I think creating a list here would only serve to embarrass me), but Jane Eyre sticks out in my mind - I believe I was crying by page 17, and cried a tonne by the end.

yes i have cried when i read the Loves books from Jeanette oake as i was reading them she is just awesome writter she makes you feel like your there experiencing it right along with the people in the book.
