I don't know if this topic is better suited in this board or on the morals board, but one of the gospel music artists which composed of sisters will be coming out with a project in the next week. I love their music and I love their ministry, but one thing which I'm concerned about is the final album cover because one of the sisters is wearing a strapless dress showing cleveage. I'm very concerned about this because it is sending a message to their younger fans, especally ladies who are taught modesty in the churches.

But should artists be advised in how they dress knowing that most of their fans are Christian?

Yeah, give us break, ladies, and keep the girls covered. [;)]

JasonMorris -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/4/2008 12:11:46 PM)

I guess I'd have to see it before I could really say anything.

Isn't this one reason why Jessica Simpson left the Christian music industry? I know a little more than just attire issues.

I see cleavage at church, not full cleavage or anything, but I think depending on the woman some ends up showing.

tafkam -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/4/2008 4:16:05 PM)

Sorry, I'm a guy and cleavage does nothing for me...

If we wanted we could find a reason not to wear most ANYTHING because there is the slightest chance it might "stumble" someone.....

humbleinspirit -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/4/2008 4:18:57 PM)

Is it on a secular owned label?

Rufas2000 -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/4/2008 5:12:18 PM)

Personally I think its inappropriate to ever see the artists on an album cover. That should be reserved for some mind blowing art, not a lame picture of the artist.

That is kind of a joke. I understand many genres normally have album covers with the artists picture on them. But my favorite genres, heavy metal & hard rock often do not and they never should.

OK to seriously address the issue, your dress should match the image you're trying to present. That decision should be left to the artist in question. Its between them and God.

It's not BarlowGirl, is it? (If so, I would be seriously disappointed)

I think that puts you in the minority of most men!

redeemedsaint -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/5/2008 1:37:05 PM)

I would have to see the cover before I see it. It would bother me if those puppies were showing.

She said gospel, Barlowgirl is pretty much as far from gospel as you can go.

As to the OP, I'm another one who would wait to see the cover before I stated an opinion. Care to share a link to that photo?

Or at least mention whose album cover it is.

But if you wanted me to guess, Trinitee 5:7 (are they still around?)

uncabeeil -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/6/2008 12:16:15 PM)

Trinitee's still around, but they just recently released a cd so I doubt it's them.

mapachito13 -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/6/2008 2:44:44 PM)

Put them in hijabs and then no one can complain... except maybe the women who would have to wear them.

The other benefit would be that they could go out in public and no one would recognize them! Paparazzi problem solved!

So, who is it?

nealmorsefan -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/7/2008 12:14:33 PM)

I'd have to say the artist probably WAS advised about their choice of dress on the cover. The record company (regardless of whether Christian or secualr) puts a lot of money into producing albums and it would be foolish to think they wouldn't have oversight of the album cover. Can we say: "the original Stryper "To Hell With The Devil" cover?"

Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/7/2008 12:29:15 PM)

Cleavage is a ridiculous show no matter what adult is showing it in public. And any woman or plumber who claims to be offended because people look at it is a liar.

There is only one reason to purposely show cleavage: so that people will look.

It's a meat market -- just meat on display in order to attract attention because they fear they can't get it in a legitimate way.

rockitd -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/9/2008 3:44:54 PM)

It's Mary Mary...you judge for yourself. I personally have no problem with them. They are from the COGIC church where women couldn't even wear pants. They love Jesus and represent him to a primarily secular audience...and yes, their label is owned by Sony...

MusicianDad -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/9/2008 10:55:49 PM)

I didn't see anything, but the use of a clap track is WAY unscriptual! [;)]

mapachito13 -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/10/2008 7:31:53 AM)

Wow. Let me contain my absolute horror at that cover.[8|][&o][sm=aside.gif][sm=popsigh.gif]

I think the stock market has dropped more than their hem line!

Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/10/2008 1:56:20 PM)

That's CD cover cleavage? Did I miss the correct photo or something? The young ladies, although one of them says she is 102 years old, are not showing cleavage!

No, I would not wear that personally, but it is a photo, for good night, and nothing is really showing.

However, if they wore the same clothes around people, in order to be modest, they would have to be very, very careful!

Hayseed -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/10/2008 4:04:44 PM)

thump, thump, thud, thud, thwap, bam, boom...

HELP! I've been stumbled![;)]

Nothing to see here folks. Move along.

rawr.ben -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/11/2008 1:40:26 PM)

I too have stumbled and I can't get up.

Stratplayer -> RE: Proper Attire on Christian Record Covers (10/11/2008 2:14:13 PM)

Aww man! I was looking forward to seeing....err nevermind; but there's nothing wrong with their attire at all.
