I was wondering if some of the differences people have on these boards have to do with what news sources they feel are authoritative. Definition authoritative 1. having due authority; having the sanction or weight of authority: an authoritative opinion. 2. substantiated or supported by documentary evidence and accepted by most authorities in a field: an authoritative edition of Shakespeare; an authoritative treatment of a subject. 3. having an air of authority; accustomed to exercising authority; positive; peremptory; dictatorial: said with an authoritative air. Actually I don't really think of the media as authoritative. Its mostly opinions at best. I do look for news in a lot of different places but for one I cannot stomach the local news, either TV or paper. The bias is quite noticeable. I do keep up with local news by reading a local on line news source (ie articles) in a blog format. He is libertarian and covers a lot of issues. Now of course I don't have a handle on the latest murders, accidents and generally negative happenings. Nationally I read, World Magazine, Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, TownHall.com, CNS News.com, Newsmax, American Policy Roundtable (really makes me think), Free Republic, Michelle Malkin, Hotair, The Daily Telegraph, The Spectator, Pajamas Media, WorldnetDaily, News Busted, and last i Google the news.

www.freerepublic.com It's a conservative news discussion site. The news unspun. Since most mass media is incredibly liberal biased we unspin the news and get to the truth of things. 100,000 members disecting the news usually leads to getting rid of the mass media bias and finding what the facts are.

I included blog, but want to expressly exclude WorldNutDaily. It's not a blog, it's an extreme right wing tabloid prone to flights of fancy on a daily basis. It gives the National Enquirer a run for it's money. And just you know, I do read more serious conservative websites, like the NRO and the conservative bloggers at the Atlantic -- my bias in the case of WND is against utterly trashy tabloid journalism.

ORIGINAL: John_O www.freerepublic.com It's a conservative news discussion site. The news unspun. FR can be very entertaining, I even have an account name there (but I'm not going to tell you what it is -- and it's not tacitus!) and have engaged in some interesting discussions on things like the Fair Tax, evolution etc. Conservative, absolutely, but "unspun"? Please. The AP news articles they post may be unspun, but all the commentary, comments, and original posts on that site are about as "spun" to the right as you can get. There's nothing wrong with that at all, but let's not be in denial about it. If I were to claim that the Democratic Underground site (the left-wing equivalent of FR) was unspun you would say I was off my rocker, and you would be right. The same holds true for FR. P.S. You should tell your fellow freepers that they need to stop blaming every single election defeat the Republicans suffer on ACORN. Might help with their long term sanity a little.
