I usually hit FoxNews.com and I listen to the BBC World Service on a fairly regular basis. It gives me some semblance of control over what I'm taking in. Instead of having a political agenda force it's way into my life through 24hr News Services, I can check on it when I want and then turn it off when I'm done.

Other than that, I was given a gift membership to the Limbaugh Letter, so I get my news info from there too.

Of a morning I usually go to the Drudge report for the latest, and for links to many many columist (both conservative and liberal).

I try to catch or Tivo a local TV evening news for local stuff, and Tivo Brit Hume.

During the day I recieve email alerts from a varity of sources (both conservative and liberal).

I do say off the extreme blogs of all types.

I go international net BBC, Brazilian and others news as Reuters, AP and than mix local tv news. I like C-Span also.

Depending on issue and region I go particular country as to check what they are themself saying..I can have an ideia what they are saying in Spanish, Italian and French.


One thing that I cannot stand is loudexchanges and talking over one another "journalism" or other distracting methods..there is a trend going on that lady journalist are dressed as they are going to fancy party or even a club? I guess this move is to keep male audience..I guess...[:D]

We don't get cable news anymore. I miss Brit Hume.

It's not that I don't keep up with it (it is almost impossible not to), it's that I don't feel compelled to pay attention to and respond to every new event that occurs. The reality is the vast majority of what we hear in the media has almost no bearing on our everyday lives, and probably never will - and yet tens of millions of people spend their time worried and anxious about what they hear coming over the airwaves and reading in the press.

If even a fraction of Americans who pay attention to the newest story on CNN or headline in USA Today would instead devote themselves to understanding the principles our nation is founded on by reading The Federalist Papers or decent histories of American Revolution or the many challenges to America's survival like the Civil War and WWII, or better yet as believers understand how Scripture applies to our civil lives, then the need to know the latest headline would diminish considerably.

Good point. I think that paying attention to those things helps us to gain perspective on the latest headlines and also helps to ground us. Thanks for clarifying!

Thanks everyone! I like hearing the replies. I was wondering if some of the differences people have on these boards have to do with what news sources they feel are authoritative. While the choices offered for this question aren't granular enough to even begin to answer this question - it is really interesting to me to see the variety of responses here ...

Get most news off the internet but I go to international sites to get different perspectives on the same news story to keep it balanced.

All American news sites are tilted too much to the right or left on international issues so I prefer to get other countries' perspectives on how we are perceived in the rest of the world.

Of course that's when I'm not reading Hamilton, Madison and Jay's fine publications! Or was that Publius'? [;)]

I read the local paper (Seattle Times) on line. My dh is very to the left and I have a couple of very conservative friend so I get bombarded with info from both sides. Mostly I don't believe any media or the politicians, but they don't care what I think either.

Wow still4gvn. Although I'm sure it is overwhelming at times, I think you are very blessed to have people on both sides to be able to discuss issues with. A lot of people avoid talking with people who have different opinions from their own.

I get my news from various sources: local news, national news networks, cable news networks (Fox news is my favorite), local newspaper, internet sites like msn and aol, here in forums in the current events, election 2008 and Brooklyn's Blurbs in Blog Towne, and gossipping with my neighbors over the back white picket fence. (just kidding on the gossip part) [;)]

Pardon my saying so, but if you really get ALL your news from them, you must be quite misinformed. They make fun of the news, and accuracy is not a hallmark of humor.

I overheard a very interesting conversation today. Two young guys were talking about the election and were saying that they felt that almost all of the news sources are biased in some way. So the way that they've been gathering information about the election has been to look at the news sources that are polar opposites - liberal and conservative - then to start to see where the commonalities lie. I thought that was interesting. One guy also did something I didn't think about doing - he called up the candidates offices. He said that when he called up one candidate's office the staff was so rude that it soured him on the candidate (I think he was on the fence). I admired the fact that he was going straight to the source and not to a middle man - I might think about doing that myself in the future.

I must say that I'm a bit surprised about the results thus far. Perhaps the poll reflects the fact that if you are on this site, that you are comfortable with the internet and thus are more comfortable getting news from there. But what is really interesting to me is that many people are using a number of different news sources. I also thought that syndicated programming, such as the 700 club might have been more influential.

Newspapers, although not listed very high in this informal poll, still have such a major impact, since it is a source of original reporting - whereas a lot of what we see on the web reports information gathered from other places - including newspapers. Kind of like a trickle down effect. I was also surprised that I didn't see more people indicating that they look at blogs regularly. I wonder why this is?

Of course they're biased. I think we should return to our colonial roots and just have the media be open about their agenda. The idea of an objective media is becoming somewhat ludicrous.
The good ones try to be fair, give the valid sides a chance to speak, and avoid distortions.
The bad ones twist and turn things and try to hide their biases.
But they all have biases. Looking for common ground is okay, but you'll lose out on things only one outlet is reporting.
