Probably The Silence of the Lambs. Anthony Hopkins was way too creepy! There was an old b&w one called "Them" about giant ants that scared me silly when I was a kid, but now I laugh at it.

Poltergeist for sure. There's this one movie called The Changeling-- it was back in the late 70's or early 80's but I do remember a wheelchair and I remember being scared.

Omg I think I "Them" when I was like 5. It came on TV. I only saw it once but I always remembered it. I don't remember being scared by it, I thought it was pretty cool. Main thing I remember would be when the ants were coming it would like go "Boom boom boom boom" or something, like Jaws or something. Guess it was supposed to be scary. I actually didn't know the name of it but I'm assuming its the same one since it was B&W and had giant ants in it.

Mm... I can't remember any real scary movies that actually scared me. I remember being freaked out by The Return to Oz when I was little. I saw the Dark Crystal when I was a bit older but stuff similar to that freaked me out when I was younger. The Little Drummer Boy stop motion movie (I guess it was a movie), Willow, some weird claymation Hansel and Gretal etc. Funny though cause I absolutely love all that type of stuff today :D

I was also hardly ever scared by a movie. A few times as a kid, never as a teenager or adult. I guess being a child of Christ since I was 7 quenched virtually all fear in me. *shrug*

Anyway, the few movies that scared me as a child:

Critters - This movie only scared me because the farm in the movie seemed almost identical to my Aunt and Uncle's farm that the family happened to be visiting when we watched Critters.

Death Valley - I THINK that was the title of this super-cheesey movie about a serial killer following around a family in California. I watched it on TV at like 2am one night when I was supposed to be in bed. I only remember one of the murder scenes where the killer used a sharp wire around a person's neck. That scene gave me the willies.

Nightmare on Elm Street - I actually never saw this movie, but the advertisements and word of mouth from all of my friends that saw the movie, along with the Will Smith Nightmare video made me scared of Freddy.

One movie that DID disturb me greatly (not in a fear sense, but in a disturbed spirit sense) was The Skeleton Key from a few years ago. There is something seriously unsettling about that movie.

I've never seen a "scary" movie that actually scared me. The only that came close was "Psycho" (B&W).

Here's my current list:

R-Point
Audition
Night Of The Living Dead
Dawn of The Dead (the original)
Alien
The Shining (Stanley Kubrick knows how to creep me out with blood and elevators!)

...and this silent classic:
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (hint: the plot twist at the end)

Yeah, I remember watching "Them" as a kid. It was about a bunch of giant ants mutated by nuclear tests running around the L.A. river, which isn't a river at all, just a big cement ditch. James Whitmore starred.
'The Shining' is pretty much the scariest, especially "HERE'S JOHNNY!! But the most scared I've ever been watching a movie was as a little tike watching the wicked witch sending out those flying monkies in "The Wizard Of Oz". Yeesh!

The only movie that's come close to scaring me, post-childhood, has been The Descent. A truly brilliant horror film! And it actually has strong female characters that aren't simultaneously sex objects, which is pretty uncommon in the genre.

I remember two more movies from years ago that scared me.
Phantasm- funeral home with the Tall Guy
Salem's Lot- that kid floating by the window...that kept me awake for days.

Speaking of "Them," I came across this youtube trailer for a similarly-titled, French horror flick (original French title translates to "Ils," which pretty much matches the English translation)--though minus the mutant ants (biensur )!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFTbcDRkG1o

Supposedly based on a true story (though that also begs the question how much creative liberties were taken to make this a truly effective, scarefest!).

Silence of the Lambs - though the guy killing women to use their skin scared me more than Anthony Hopkins' character. *shudder*

The second Poltergeist movie. I do not like Reverend Kane at all. That scene when he's underground with the children freaked me out. Also when Craig T. Nelson puked up that thing, I still can't watch that.

Other than that, the Exorcist has given me many sleepless nights.

Truly terrifying though...would have to be When Harry Met Sally. That Meg Ryan could end up with Billy Crystal, horrifying. *grin*

The first scary movie I ever saw in the movie theater scared me so bad I had nightmares for months.

It was a splatter movie, "Happy Birthday to me." It starred one of the girls from Little house on the Prairie (Not half pint, the older one).

I also was pretty scared after watching the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre when it first came out of video.

When A Stranger Calls - "Have you checked the children?"

Okay, this was the scariest movie TRAILER I ever saw. We used to tell the "check the children" babysitter story when we were kids. It always scared me to death. then one night years later I was watching the tube, and up comes this movie trailer with a baby sitter getting phone calls saying "check the children"! . I freaked!! To this day I haven't had the courage to see that film

I'm never good at narrowing down these kind of lists to only one choice, so here's a few:

recently, The Grudge films got under my skin, as well as The Ring.

Growing up, there was a movie called It's Alive about a killer baby - sounds ridiculous, but freaked me out.

I also remember some crazy film about this community of cannibals that used a Bigfoot legend to their own advantage - I distinctly remember the closing of the film - "Light meat or dark?" - really creepy.

Stephen King's IT

Slumber Party...it was about some psycho clown that killed all of these girls at a sleepover. *shudders* and I watched it at a sleepover. I don't think any of us slept a lick that night.

The Shining...even after I visited the Stanley Hotel it still gives me nightmares.
