quote:
ORIGINAL: stateofgrace It's always a possibility, but I've got a skill set they need, so I don't think it's a great probability. OTOH, my husband is out of a job for the second time in little over a year. He switched careers after the company he had worked at for a long time started sliding downhill, and let him go. He went to get his CDL last year. The major trucking company that he started orientation at last November, and started driving for last January, suddenly let him go last week. I've found out from other trucking boards online they are using the same reasons with a lot of folks they've suddenly let go in the last month. The kicker is, with them firing him, him having less than a year's experience, it may be difficult for him to get a job in trucking. I think it's understandable. My firm let several of my coworkers (recent college graduates) go back in March after they had worked for seven months in a general layoff. Most have been able to find jobs at other firms without even getting questioned about why they were let go. These aren't normal times, where losing your job after six months of work looks bad. People understand that people get laid off in recessions- even new employees. quote:
Are you worried about losing your job? Yes, I'm a bit worried. I'm a financial programmer who works at a bank (you've probably read about us in the news, but I shouldn't name which one.) The financial industry is pretty weak right now and so is technology, and this is one of the first times in two decades that we're seeing recessions in both industries. I've dodged four rounds of layoffs so far, but I'm not making predictions about the future. I'm doing my best to live more frugally and do a better job of saving money.
