I have the sewing machine but not the skill. Still, I do what I must. Fortunately, I am not in that time of life when I must sew for children and only have myself to worry about.

jumping on board Around here...you can find modest apparel for little girls. There are several stores, however....they are ridiculously expensive and I mean way over the top. A small (4T) smocked top dress with a modest length to it costs upwards of $75.00. If Wal-Mart rants about being family friendly, blah blah blah...then how come most of their products do not reflect this? I know having a selection of bibles and Christian reading material does not make a store family friendly, but they market themselves in that manner, so people buying their clothes at Wal-Mart must assume that this is the "new" modest and end up buying accordingly. I do sew and I have been making my grandaughters little dresses for years. The pillowcase dresses are the simplest to make for summer and jumpers are good for winter. I've been looking for a "play clothes" pattern that I can use for them, too.

It seems most of our clothes are made in other countries (which I'm not against, because even though those workers must be paid very low wages, it does give them desperately needed income)...... But at any rate, I guess they're given the patterns from the fashion designers, and it all just gets back to the almighty dollar and what will [supposedly] make the most money. We only had to buy for our boys; but I wonder if Sears or JC Penney might have better choices, even if a little more expensive. These retailers all need to see that decent clothing will sell.

I find this funny. I asked a young lady (11yo) where she got her skirt because I really liked it for me and she said 'Goodwill' which bummed me out and Mom, not really realizing it was THAT SKIRT I was after and thinking of my 11yo with the long legs thoughtfully told me that it was a 'Dickie' brand - like mens work clothes and that they make school uniforms and she looks for their stuff and all of the school uniforms. Why is this funny? She homeschools. And I find humor in an HS mom buying school uniforms. But I may need to look to see if they have something similar available for me.
