Ladies,
I hope you all had some rest and relaxation and quality family/friend time this long Thanksgiving weekend. I did.

If you'd like, please share the names of your favorite (for lack of a better verbiage) non-religious and religious Christmas songs. If you are at times like me, just share ONLY all your most favorite-est of them if you have two or three of each.

Thanks!
OneJohn410

Mine are Steve Green Christmas songs:

Good News
Birthday of the King/O Holy Night
Holy Child

Actually, I love all his Christmas music and really wish he would do another one.

Also like much of Michael W Smith's stuff too, particularly Gloria and Christ the Messiah.

I don't particularly care for secular Christmas music, but, if I had to give one or two, it'd be White Christmas and Jingle Bell Rock.

Mary did you know is a definite favorite. We have The Nitty Gritty Dirt Bands Christmas album and I think that is my favorite album. We just put all our Christmas CD's on our Ipods and ended up with 209 songs. It is some instrumental, some choir, a little old, a little new. We created a play list put it on scramble and it plays all the time in our house.

My husband bought me Snow Angels by Over the Rhine this year. It's fast becoming a favorite.

Darlin' (Christmas is Coming)
White Horse
All I Get for Christmas is Blue

Otherwise I favor the Vince Garibaldi Trio.

Jars of Clay - Drummer Boy"
It doesn't hurt that the lead singer is gorgeous - I would not mind my next date to look like him...well, less superficially...to have an intense passionate spirit for the LORD.

BandAid - "Do they know it's Christmas time?" This kind of dates me but I don't care...I just love this song! It is great to see Simon LeBon singing alongside Bono & Sting...

the Carpenters - Merry Christmas Darling
I am still amazed at how peaceful and serene her beautiful voice makes me feel. May Karen Carpenter rest in peace. I dedicate this song to the future man I marry who I have not even met yet! (Yeah, I am that dippy).

Hey, Captain, that's my song, lol. And I dedicate that song to that special person out there who might or might not be with me this Christmas. I should just email it to him to erase the last song I sent him...which was Unforgiven II by Metallica, lol.

... Merry Christmas darling .........
......We're apart that's true ......

I'm Christmas-ing with you

"Gee whiz it's Christmas" tops the list - I just love that song especially the part that goes " I know it's gonna be a lotta fun - O by the way it's snowing!" Oh just thinking about it has me singing.

"Do you hear what I hear?" is also a favourite of mine, along with "Drummer Boy" (aka Ra-Pa-Pum-Pum)

And I like our local version of "The twelve days of Christmas."

There's a jolly song about reindeer that I like as well, but I can't remember the name of it.

Ooooh I almost forgot Carol of the Bells. Our college choir sang that song and we were good .

And of course: "O, Holy Night"

Wow! I never knew that I had so many favourite Christmas songs.

Narrowing then down to my favorites isn't going to be easy. I'm a big fan of Christmas music!

Christian -
O, Holy Night
Mary, Did You Know?
Do You Hear What I Hear?
Joy to the World

Secular -
Step into Christmas
Winter Wonderland
Feliz Navidad
There's No Christmas Like a Home Christmas (Perry Como)

Anything sung by Burl Ives or Bing Crosby (or any of the old time crooners for that matter).

My favorite songs are as follows:

Religious - Mary Did You Know, Do You Hear What I Hear, Go Tell it On the Mountain, Joy to the World, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Silent Night, O Come All Ye Faithful (I could keep going probably but I'll stop here).

Non-Religious - You Better Watch Out, All I Want for Christmas, Silver Bells, I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas, I'm Getting Nothing for Christmas, Santa Baby (I'll stop here).

I LOVE CHRISTMAS MUSIC!

I forgot this one until one of my guy friends was goofing off and sang it to me at choir practice the other day...I love that song...as long as he's not singing it to me! That was a little strange!

The song though, I LOVE!

I love "O Holy Night", but I also love some of the newer Christmas songs that have come out by Christian artists. Some faves are:

"All is Well" -- Point of Grace
"Joseph's Song" -- Michael Card
"Mary Sweet Mary" -- Selah
"The Virgin's Lullaby" -- The Nativity Soundtrack

I heard it on the radio this morning - Jingle Bell Rock. It is so dancey. The reason I associate it with reindeer is becuse of one Christmas when I sent an email card with reindeer playing hide & seek, while that song was playing in the background.

Wonderful replies, everybody! Here's an intermission to see what has been shared so far.... and I'm going to see if mine are in the 'mix'.

Religious:
All Is Well - M.W. Smith
Angels We Have Heard on High
Away in a Manger (2 votes)
Christmas is All in the Heart - Steven Curtis Chapman
Gloria - Hawk Nelson
Go Tell It on the Mountain
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (3 total votes)
Good News, Birthday of the King/O Holy Night, Holy Child - Steve Green
Hark the Herald Angels Sing
It Came Upon a Midnight Clear
Joseph's Song - Michael Card
Joy to the World (3 votes)
Mary, Did You Know - Kutless (6 votes for the song)
Mary Sweet Mary - Selah
O Come All Ye Faithful
O Holy Night (4 votes)
O Little Town of Bethlehem
Silent Night (2 votes)
The Virgin's Lullaby - The Nativity Soundtrack
We Three Kings
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's a nice mix of religous songs, ladies.
I've not heard Christmas is all in the heart
Gloria... isn't that on a MWSmith Chistmas release too? I like the one he sings.
I haven't heard Steve Green's Christmas music... probably would like it.
Don't know Joseph's Song, Mary Sweet Mary, or the Virgin's Lullaby.

One of my most favorite is not in here... What Child is This, aka Greensleves.
=============================================

Non-Religious:
All I get for Christmas is Blue
All I want is a Hippopotamus for Christmas (2 votes)
All I want for Christmas
Anything by any old-time crooner
Anything by Bing Crosby (2 votes)
Anything by Burl Ives
Anything by Dean Martin
Anything by Frank Sinatra
Anything by Josh Groben from Noel
Anything from Vince Garibaldi Trio
Anything from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Bands Christmas
Anything from Trans Siberian Orchestra Christmas
Baby It's Cold Outside (2 naughty votes)
Carol of the Bells
The Christmas Song
Christmas Time is Here
Darlin' (Christmas is Coming) - White Horse(?)
Do They Know it's Christmas Time?
Do You Hear What I Hear (4 votes)
Dominic the Donkey
Drummer Boy - Jars of Clay (3 total votes)
Gee Whiz It's Christmas
Feliz Navidad
Frosty the Snowman
I'm getting nothing for Christmas
Jingle Bell Rock (2 votes)
Jolly Old Saint Nicholas

Silver Bells

There's No Christmas Like a Home Christmas (Perry Como)
12 Days of Christmas - Relient K (two votes, one non-specific)
12 Pains of Christmas
White Christmas
Winter Wonderland - Steven Curtis Chapman (2 votes)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've heard most of these, but I don't know a single line of Dominic Donkey, or the Hippo song.

Again, this is a good mix, y'all!

There's Jingle Bell Rock, but no plain Jingle Bells? Interesting.
Has anyone heard of Manheim Steamroller? They do an interesting Christmas mix every year. Their version of Greensleves is wonderful.
Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow didn't make the first-round.
Although it's been said, many times, many ways... Merry Christmas to You.
Grandma got run over by a reindeer... . (Not a favorite, but if you sing about hippos, do you sing that obnoxious one?
Or Ray Stevens' version of Santa Claus is coming to town? He's sneakin up around the corner...).
Over the River and Thru the Woods???
Here comes Santa Claus?
O Christmas Tree?
============================================

Thanks for participating. Now you can make some Christmas music '08 CDs, based on a survey of your peers. Woo-hoo!
