What are the two best CDs you bought in the last year? For me it was "No Name Face" by Lifehouse and "Good Monsters" by Jars of Clay.

That's a tough one! One is definitely Phil Keaggy's "The Song Within". I'll go with the Allman Brothers' "Eat A Peach" (Deluxe Edition) for the other. Or maybe Stanley Jordan's "The State of Nature". Or Take Six's "The Standard".

It really is a tough question for me, too.I almost put "Portable Sounds" by Tobymac as one of mine, but I really like the Lifehouse and Jars of Clay CDs too much to leave them off.Anyway, thanks for responding!!!

I've bought a lot over the past year....I don't know if these 2 are the best per se, but I have been listening to them a lot recently...

She & Him - Volume 1

It was actually an emusic download from 6 months ago, but I didn't seriously start spinning it until a few weeks ago. It's a definite grower, and very catchy. I wouldn't go so far as to say that Zooey DeSchanel is an excellent vocalist, but she's pretty expressive and her voice compliments M. Ward's arrangements quite well.

Lucena - Mercury Light EP

This was also an emusic download. Lucena is the new band from Jyro Xhan of Mortal and Fold Zandura. This recording actually came out last year but I wasn't made aware of it until earlier this year. It only has 6 songs, but they are pretty qual. It's very similar to Fold Zandura only it doesn't have the dated trip-hop/techno loops, and the guitar layering is more space-y than it is post-grunge.

"No Name Face" by Lifehouse

My fave Lifehouse CD!!! But, I didn't buy it this year!

This year...probably "Hawk Nelson Is My Friend" by Hawk Nelson and "Expect The Impossible" by Stellar Kart! They have also been the most over played in my CD player...

Hmmm...

I'd have to go with 2 secular recordings.

A concert release by the Allman Brothers Band recorded at Virginia Beach, Va

And "Neil Young, Live at Massey Hall".

The 2 best christian recordings I purchased in 08 would probably be:

Ryan Delmore "The Spirit, the Blood, and the Lamb"

Iona "The Circling Hour"

Whoa! A kindred spirit!

I'm a huge Phil Keaggy fan, (25 years) as well as a huge Allman Brothers Band fan.(bout 30 years)

How about that live disc that came with the Eat a Peach deluxe edition? A great "2 pack" isn't it?

Do you know about the expanded Deluxe "Live at Fillmore East" releases?

And can you give me a quick review of the Phil Keaggy CD you mentioned? Is it one of his instrumental ones, or is it one with vocals?

Thanks!

Mike

It's an instrumental done for McPherson guitars. He takes riffs or melodies from older compositions and creates new songs with them. It's one of my all time favorites already. He touches on a lot of different styles and techniques, always using a McPherson guitar.
