Everyone remembers the happy, jolly, warm-and-fuzzy Christmas songs. But there have been a number put out that aren't so happy and jolly, too. What Christmas songs always seem to be the saddest ones to you?

Everly Brothers did one called "Christmas in Jail". And there's always "Please Come Home for Christmas" by Charles Brown/ The Eagles.

I Hate Christmas Parties by Matt Thiesen. It's on Relient K's Deck the Halls EP. Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley

ORIGINAL: LetGo2God "The Christmas Shoes" song is pretty heart-wrenching. That song is sad on many levels. Just a really, really bad song. In fact, my family has a "no Christmas Shoes" rule with the car radio - if that song comes on, the channel buttons start getting mashed. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Randy Stonehill's "Christmas at Denny's". Then again, it's not one that gets any airplay on CCM radio, so unless you own the album, chances are you've never heard it. I can't even think of the name of the album it's on now - seems like it came out in the mid 80s. Good tune.

It did make it on to his Recollections album. I can name a number of albums that it isn't on at all.

I can't stand it when they sing "Oh Come, Oh Come, Emmanuel" very slowly. The melody is already like a Gregorian Chant. Even though it has the word "Rejoice" in the chorus, we are supposed to be putting ourselves in the shoes of someone in the Old Testament, longing and groaning for the Messiah to come, one day, perhaps far off in the future. When the song ends, Israel is still captive, mourning in lonely (lowly?) exile. A Spanish verse says "Israel who is crying in sad desolation, anxiously awaiting her liberation".
