Borders is closer and they seem to have a larger selection.

For what I buy they are about the same. There are a lot of Barnes and Nobles that are bigger than Borders.

Barnes and Noble seems to be much more convenient for us and always seem to have what we want and need.

Another favorite for my kids is Mitchell Books.

And I can't forget our all time favorite used bookstore - Hyde Brothers Books

Blessings,

Garsy

Borders because the Rewards membership is free and they offer discounts on a weekly basis. The comparable program available through Barnes and Noble is $25 per year.

I have both a Borders(Waldenbooks) and a Barnes and Noble about 20 minutes away. I like the Barnes and Noble because of it selection. I like Borders(Waldenbooks) for its free membership discounts.

It's either/or here. I have one of each just about equidistant. Borders has a cafe, videos and music that BN doesn't, but BN has a wider selection of books and calendars.

Ahh! Another one of my favorite places! In fact I need to go there tomorrow! Several of the 50 some titles my family has checked out are due!

Blessings,

Barnes & Noble, but mainly just because I love Starbucks and enjoy being able to get a cup of their coffee while I'm looking around. But I usually order my books from Amazon, it's cheaper.

Heh. I generally dont' like libraries, unless I have hardcore studying to do. They scarte me, because they are so serious and quiet. I like to read and relax at a Borders or Barnes.

I guess it depends ont he library too. If it is nice and moder I'll go more. We have some dumpy ones near me too that I don't like.

This could be a stereoype, but I feel Barnes has a more diverse clientele and Borders has more middle to upperclass folks. The Borders near me are all in very good areas and alwas have more adults, who look professional. The Barnes near me are everywhere and have kids running around and a diverse assortment of people from every racial, gender, economic, social class group.

I personally prefer Borders, because it feels more quaint and quiet, but not as quiet and serious as a library.

I feel I can relax at Borders and spend a good night reading there. Not too much noise and craziness, but not so quiet and serious that I fall asleep. Too bad it seems bookstores like these are getting squeezed by online competitors like Amazon. Also, I feel bad sometims if I read all their stuff and never buy anything.

I heard a comedian joke the fact that these bookstore models are stupid. You basically have a place that has every book youi could ever want and then have very comfortable seats where peple can relax and read them as much as they want and have staff that restock everything and clean up afer people. Why would anyone buy anything in that place?

Borders, because I can find just about any book I want there. I also like the locations. I just have to be careful not to take my credit card with me when I go shopping there, because when it comes to bookstores and libraries, I'm like a kid in the proverbial candy store!

Ah, yes, me, too, though sadly there's none close to where I'm living now.

Though some of there selection can be a bit spotty; still, that's more than made up for by the Joe Muggs cookies.

Also have a fondness for Half-Priced Books.

Tritto. BAM is cheaper than Barnes & Noble and I've never been to a Border's. I don't think there are any around here.

Barnes... we don't have a Borders, so I've never been.

I don't like BAM at all. The selection is bad and the stores here aren't clean.

Barnes and Noble, they have more of a selection, the Borders right around the corner from me has more of a selection of movies then it has of books

I also agree with HisCovenant that BAM does not have a good selection, and I have never been in one that is clean.

I like the library when I don't have money to buy a book. If I can't find in there I can go to the catalog and get it from another library.

With Barnes and Noble I like browsing through the bookshelves then sitting down with a pile of books and a cup of coffee. I am also like a kid in a candy store. I could easily spend a half of a day there.

Actually, I can't remember which is which. The ones near (35 miles) where we live seem interchangeable.

I asked Mrs. K. We tend to like Borders just a tad better.

Hmm, the one's I've been in have been pretty nice. Some more than others, but none were what I would consider junky.

There selection can be a bit spotty, I do admit that. At the same time, I've found books at BAMs that I haven't found at either of the other Bs. And there bargain book tables are usually pretty good, too.

And for me, it comes down to...the cookies!! The white chocolate chunk cookies are...mmmmmmm!!!!

I will agree with the lack of cleanliness at BAM, except the one I shop at. It's located in a VERY ritzy outlet mall, and they have no choice but to keep it nice and tidy or else they get the boot.
