It seems as though finding, let alone landing, a job outside of the short lived burger and fries gig is really, REALLY difficult. I have an associates degree and quite a bit of personal project based expereince working in the field of computer forensics and cyber crimes. I cant find a single thing! I have been getting in contact with old teachers of mine and anyone else who may know someone to help get myself some expsure in the field, even for volunteer or job-shadow work. Is anyone else finding that although they have a passion and talent, just cant get noticed?

Not to be a downer, but an associates degree doesn't really mean much in computer fields (yeah, there are exceptions, but they're exceptions). You're likely to have better luck w/ at least a bachelor's degree. -Dan.

Dan is correct about the degree. You might want to look at smaller firms, volunteer opportunities that won't conflict with work but will give you additional experience/contacts, also look on Monstertrak. The positions listed there are generally tailored for persons fresh on the market. You might find something up your alley. Lastly, try industry organizations. Membership perks often include job leads. Good luck.

What others have said is correct - just keep plugging away at it - maybe try for a bachelors (and if you do that - DEFINITELY do coops and internships so that you'll have paid or unpaid real-life work experience to put on your resume. Employers love that.) If you enroll in school again, you can probably try for an internship right away. Or, you might try to get into some sort of organization where you'll be doing this type of work - but in a different position - like working at a reception area or answering phones or something else. Once inside, then you can start looking for leads on jobs, talk to people about transferring and about what they do ... you might be able to get employer paid education even since your education would be related to what the company or agency does. The first job in a field is sometimes the hardest to break into. But you'll get there. Keep the faith!

hey all thanks for the reccomendations! I hope others who may be in the same boat get some useful info out of it as well. Yeah I know Im going for my Bachelors, just gotta find a good way to do it without getting into massive debt, unless I can find an employer that pays for tuition.
