Has anyone gotten a chance to see this film? I know it is not being played in very many places. I just went last night to see it (it is only playing in one theatre in all of Minnesota). I can't decide whether I liked it or not. It definitely intrigued me, but I walked away with my emotions rather unsure. And part of me thinks that might be the whole point. Anyone who has seen it have any thoughts?

I've heard about this movie; haven't done enough research on it yet, but just by looking at the marquees, it definitely piqued my interest.

Is this the one with Philip Seymour Hoffman? I think I've seen the trailer a few months ago and it does seem that it's on limited release right now. But I'm very curious with the movie since he's one of my favorite actor

some interesting discussion here... i'm really looking forward to this movie...in fact, i have heard and read numerous responses that state exactly what ben states: people aren't sure whether they liked it or not but they definitely keep thinking about it. as an artist myself, that would be the goal - to have people think and ponder about ideas and issues and situations rather than being able to reduce the work to a simple "i like it/ i don't like it". did i mention that i'm really looking forward to seeing this?

Whether the movie was *good* or not, Hoffman did a fantastic job in it.

ORIGINAL: JoeyWest well whats it about? Well, it is similar to the film 8 1/2. It's about a playwriter who tries to create something new, and basically recreates real life within a play, where the "actors" play real people, and they re-enact reality. It's also about Hoffman's quest for finding happiness, but only seems to find loneliness and pain as he awaits death for many years. The plot is rather scattered and complicated. Certain characters come and go. The movie is rather depressing . . despite the first 30 minutes of it being hilarious. It will definitely play with one's emotions, and make them think. Just as a warning, there is a lot of language, and some nudity in it, so if you are offended by such, I would recommend staying away.

I saw it a few weeks ago. It had many brilliant parts, but by the end it was just way too earnest, self-absorbed, and dull. It is juggling more great ideas than any film in recent memory, but I think it tries to take on more balls than it can handle, and I don't think it is ultimately able to follow through on its promises. The interminable philosophizing towards the end would have been excusable if it wasn't so incredibly hackneyed and trite -and I actually found myself cringing at times in the last 1/2 hour. It's definitely worth seeing, though. Just go in expecting a grand and often brilliant mess of a film, as oppossed to anything that's flawless or tidy. That said, however, I'd like to see it again and give it a second chance. I don't think it's the sort of film you can make your mind up about after just one viewing.
