OK, you know how some places have the drink fountain in the dining room so you can refill your cup? Is it OK to share with someone?

honestly, we do it. Sometimes, I'll share a drink between the girls and one between the boys. Hubby and I will often share. We don't refill more than once or twice though.
I find it to be a non-issue. Seriously...it's just not a big deal. I'm sure *someone* will disagree and consider it stealing or something...but I don't much care.

If the purpose of getting a "free" refill drink is to avoid buying drinks for others it's wrong...

Ditto. It is stealing from the company. Pretty straight forward if you ask me.

FWIW

I said no. When you buy the first drink (which entitles you to free refills) it's intended for one person. Only exception would be if you bought a drink and didn't get a refill.

Parents that "feed" their children off their salad plate are stealing as well...

If this is a buffet type place I agree...unless the children are young enough that there is no charge for them anyway. For example, often kids under 2 aren't charged because it's assumed they don't eat much anyway and can nibble off of their parents' plates. However, if the child is old enough to pay for their meal then I agree it's stealing.

I think anything that's "All you can eat" is a singular "you" for the price advertised.

I don't know--I really never thought of the sharing thing. I just assumed free refills meant if you bought a drink for yourself you could get a refill for yourself.

Agreed. If I pay for a plate of food (not buffet), then I'm free to use the food however I see fit. I can either take the leftovers home, share with my kids, or they'd toss whatever I don't eat.

If we are sharing one drink, yes, that is fine. To refill to get two drinks for the price of one, that is stealing.

No it is not OK.

Same thing as trying to get by with buying one buffet, and sharing that food with someone who did not pay.

It may be a small thing, but I think it is indicitive of a flaw in a person's character.

Thanks
RC

A two cent loss means just as much as a twenty dollar loss. Do the math, based on a one thousand customer-pair sales day. The tiny loss suddenly looks much larger.
If only one couple, on earth, cheats, no big deal. But then, there are more thieves on earth than that.
Notice that the only people saying it is OK, are 'customers.' A class in Business 101 would open many eyes, me thinks.

I voted 'NO,' option two. Oh, if you chose option three, who pays for the 'Refill-Cop,' necessary to make sure everyone is playing by the rules? (Again, me-thinks, the price has to go up, to compensate for the expense)

In sense the whole system is an honor system. If two people are going to share a cup and not get a refill and know they won't do that then they police themselves.

DING! DING! DING!
We have a winner! Taking advantage of free refills to avoid buying a drink is stealing. Remember, we are commanded to avoid the very APPEARANCE of evil and wrongdoing.

I think it depends on the place. My son, who works at McDonald's says that they don't have any policy regarding free refills, and that it is perfectly acceptable for two people to share one drink. I'm not sure if this is a national policy, or just a local one.

Also, where do you draw the line as far as it being "stealing"? If my child takes a drink, is that stealing? Or two?

Personally, I don't share with my kids because they slobber .

I think most fast food places are like that and know that people will do this. I have never seen a sign at fast food places saying not to be shared like I have at buffets etc. We also share the big buckets of popcorn and drinks that offer free refills at the movie theater as well. I think places like that assume that people are sharing.

We do that too. My girlfriend and I split a large popcorn and two drinks between BOTH of our families, hers of five and mine of four (well, when Kyoudai goes with us we're four ). We bring plastic ziploc bags for the kids and the men, and then she and I share the bucket. It also works out better this way because each of the kids like different flavours sprinkled on their popcorn.

You're saying 'splitting'. There's a difference between 'splitting' and getting a free refill because you're sharing with someone else. You're 'splitting' implies that you buy one big bucket of popcorn and share it amongst you all ~ without refilling it.

Uuuuhhh, no. We refill it a few times. With 5 boys, two men and two women? It gets refilled. However I agree with the concept that the theatres sell the sets for that purpose.

This is why some fast food places limit the refills or have eliminated them all together, at least around here. I think also that in many poorer neighborhoods you may notice that it's actually done where the crew poor it and you may not get refills.

I agree that theaters are a different story. For example, they often sell what they call a family pack with a large popcorn and 4 drinks with refills on all of it. They assume you are sharing the popcorn. Also, these refills are usually only on the large size. I think that most of the time it's not one person eating a large popcorn and then getting refills.

I voted no, but I will add this ... whenever we go out to eat at a sit-down restaurant, I always tell the server to bring the kids drinks WITH their meals, but ours ahead of time. We then let the kids have one sip of our drinks while we are waiting for the food to arrive. We do it this way so that the kids don't drink the whole thing ahead of time and then not eat, but they still get to have a tiny drink which seems to tide them over. Once the kids have finished their meals, they are welcome to get a refill for their drinks. Dh and I usually get a refill partway through the meal.

i've heard people that buy a drink at mcDonalds, wash the cup, then another day they go get a free refill without paying for it. Now THAT is going a bit far.

my dysfunctional ex-husband and his wife got reduced tickes to the ball game, (disabled price) because they borrowed the wife's mother's wheelchairs, and they acted like they were wheel-chair bound, and wheeled themselves into the ball park, not only did they get better seats, but they got a reduced price at the ball park.. AND THEY ARE NOT EVEN DISABLED.

my kids tell me that my ex-husband who works as a clerk in the police dept, he wears a uniform, well, when he goes to Dunkin Donuts, they think he is a policeman and he gets free donuts.

thats pretty bad if you ask me.
