Still waiting on W-2's, but we'll do them as soon as we have everything back. I like to get them done so that we can get all our paperwork for student aid done ASAP.

W-2s for me normally don't come until March. And then I'm invested in a few MLPs, which means I probably won't get my K-7s until after April 15th.

I'd pay $100 to get all my necessary 1099's and paperwork today, but it's not gonna happen for a few more months.

no W-2s until MARCH?

I thought there was some law that said you must be distributed to employees by the end of January?

As for me, Iam just waiting on my W-2.....that should be coming in the next week or two....

I've started gathering paperwork and sorting things out. We usually wait until dh's W2's arrive in the mail, and then get our taxes filed as soon as possible.

We don't itemize or anything, so the only thing we have to use is hubby's W-2. So no, we haven't started anything yet.

Yep. Since I do the taxes for my business, it takes a while. I'm now in the inventory phase. Hate it. Next week is quarterly sales tax. Then after that, I'll give myself a bit of a break until hubby's W-2 and our other paper work comes.

I'm not usually a very happy camper Jan-April!

Due to employees by Feb 2nd this year. But a business can file for a 30 day extension, which would put the date into March.

I attempted to start my taxes. Unfortunately, my banks don't have their Year End Summaries available, yet. I could go the receipt route, but I deliberately used cards on purpose to keep the data entry to a minimum. Ah well.... I should probably use this time to amend my 2006 taxes instead. I've put that off for almost a year.

For those of you looking for W-2s, have you checked to see if your employer put them online? If so, you can get an early start because they're usually available fairly soon.

Kerns, you live/work in Texas. No state income tax for individuals.

Knowing how much you love regulation, I think you would hate it here in NYC (it's even bad by this Illinoisan's standards). I am potentially subject to taxes by the city of New York (4% income tax for city residents), the state of New York, and the state of New Jersey. My employer has to figure everything out and submit the tax records and withholdings to these jurisdictions and then send the W-2s.

For those who are thinking about taking the itemized deduction, bear in mind that if your state taxes, property taxes, mortgage interest, and charitable giving add up to more than about $5500, it's worth your while to itemize!

My husband pulled all the receipts together 1/1/09. He is crazy. But as soon as we get out W-2, we will get our taxes done. We get a big refund. :)

Set up a file today to place all incoming mail that will be needed when we do the taxes. This goes on until March and then I will organize and get things in order.

The actual filing will not take place until April. Probably the 15th. This will sound strange but I enjoy getting our financial house in order and actually seeing on paper how everything stacks up. I do not enjoy writing the check for the taxes due but hopefully I'm not going to get any surprises.

I don't think my husband and I have gotten anything yet to do with taxes (W2, etc). We do them online all in one day sometime before April 15.

Getting the paperwork together. Downloaded the mortgage interest statement off the web, got the wife's student loan interest statement. Waiting on the SSI statement for my daughter, and the W-2's for the wife and I.
Then I'll use the same program I've used for the last 5 years:
http://www.taxslayer.com/

What I like about them is they'll figure your taxes two ways, one itemizing, and the other using standard deductions. Then they'll recommend which to do based on how it comes out, but you aren't forced to use the recommendation.

I am currently waiting on the necessary forms (W-2s, etc.), but I like to get them done early. The sooner the better, so it's one less thing to worry about.

I'll receive my 1099-R on January 30th.

For the past 5 years, I have done my taxes online.

I use: www.taxactonline.com

To prepare and file both state and federal, I pay only about $18.00.

Much, much better than paying H & R Block over $100.00!

OK, our stuff is at the accountant's ... hopefully we can get it filed by Friday 1/16 and it can get processed BEFORE the state of California starts issuing IOUs instead of checks!

Done and filed this past Sunday. All we needed was my husband's W-2 and state disability W-2, and we got those Saturday. I looked up student loan interest online.
