I need assistance about three years ago i was asked to take a youth minister position with no experiance. When i got there the pastor was supose to teach me the ropes but he just gave me all the children from 3 to 18 and never helpped me. Well that lasted about three months and we felt it was time to move on. My new church is asking me to at least help out in the youth and i need help with making a proper lesson and out line so as not to lose my place, because every time i have been asked to speke i lose my place and have to do it from memory. I also never file my time slot. iam asking for help so as to better serve the Lord, and fulfill my calling that i have be running from. my church is to pour to hire a full time minister write now . please help

I' say politely decline the offer, should it come. 1) You seem to lack confidence 2) You seem to think that ministry concerns mostly giving lessons 3) You seem to lack teaching experience, aside from maybe other skills you may or may not have experience in. I hope that they hire a really good youth minister that can show you the ropes and teach you well for a responsibility like this in the future.

I would say look for a church that has strong accountability and connect with a Leader who will disciple you in the Word. We can't give away something we don't have and having the Word of God hidden in your heart and flowing outward to others is a MUST.

I may be reading this wrong...so I'm sure I will be corrected lovingly if that is the case I understand being 'thrown' into roles at church when it is understaffed and/or doesn't have the means to hire someone. But I also understand that when it has happened to me rarely was I "thrown" into something that wasn't my calling. It just wasn't something that I'd accepted or even something that I felt confident in doing because I wasn't trained (or educated). I may not have liked "how" it happened but I did learn that it was necessary because otherwise I wasn't going to do it (but that's how I'm wired). I learn while doing. It's not easy, but I've learned to recognize what's going on better. I hope that makes some kind of sense... With that said, here's the question I have for you, totall, do you believe that God wants you in Youth Ministry? Did God send you to this particular church? If yes on both, then God's got you covered A lot of times we have our own "idea" of how things should go, but God in his infinite wisdom is trying to teach us something through His plan for us to follow. During this learning stage, we have to TOTALLY depend on Him to guide us through this process. In my case, God took away certain "teachers" so that I wouldn't become dependent on them but to make sure that I was always dependent on Him. This takes nothing away from mentors and such because they are incredible tools used by God, but sometimes we, at lease I did, become dependent on them rather than the One who sent them. God knows you and your style, trust Him and seek His direction. My apologies for the long post...Lessons come from a lot of prayer, studying, and experiences (past and present). I can't say this enough - trust God with all of your concerns. "God doesn't call the equipped, He equips the called."
