So, y'all have heard about Mark Sanford, the republican governor who ran off to Argentina to spend a week with his mistress and kinda left his state in the lurch? Does anyone know why Fox News has repeatedly identified him as a democrat? I've seen it several times now, and I find it vaguely amusing.

I know that this news station doesn't like democrats, but I'm not sure anyone is going to buy it.

actually, according to the HuffingtonPost, they corrected it with an apology the day after they did it.

What do you think of Sanford calling his lover his "soul mate?" I was listening to Moody Radio(christian station) and they had on a christian marriage counselor who commented on this. And they guy is suppose to be a believer? That makes me sick.

MJ's funeral was on 11 different channels on our local cable system. And they are saying on the news that the costs associated with the funeral will cost the cash-strapped City of Los Angeles more than $4 million.

Sickening.

I seriously hope some people drop some money in a collection or something on the way out.

I cannot believe they had SWAT on call and a helicopter in case they needed it to bring his casket to the service.

Give me a break.

I heard someone (can't remember who) on Talk Radio suggest that MJ's family/estate should provide some/all of the money to cover the extra costs to the city. I thought it was a wonderful idea! It will be interesting to see if they offer to pay for it.

I figured the family would pay for it. I'm sure they have that much-- at least among all of them.

Either that or the estate. Apparently, even though MJ was something like $400 million in debt when he died (hence the planned tour), his estate has been making money hand over fist since he passed away.

Anyone had the idea that maybe his death wasn't so accidental? Elvis's big comeback was after he died. MJ's death is seeming pretty similar to me (from what little I've read while checking mail in town). It makes me wonder...

Given some of the newspapers here, you could almost wonder if he's actually dead (seems no one knows where his body is!).

Do you think he killed himself? I wouldn't be suprised. I still don't understand how he could have gone on tour being on so many meds. ? I saw an interview with the Incredible Hulk (Lou F.) and he was training him and said he was fine, but .... . I feel sad for his children.

Came across a great video... this guy had his guitar broken while travelling and even though the baggage handlers were witness throwing the guitar case around, they didn't compensate him. So he wrote a song about it. It's actually pretty good: United Breaks Guitars. I'm not normally into country music, but this is entertaining.

I love it! I've never actually seen United do things like that, but that is funny. BTW- since my dd's father works for United, I've flown more times on United than I can count. I used to fly them around 7 or 8 times a year.

No offense to your dad intended. The thing with this dude's guitar is that I'm sure it's a one-time thing, but the customer service didn't quite do what it should've. I don't think it's United specifically; it seems to me that lately, customer service has gone from "the customer is always right" to "the customer is always lying."

Mind you, having worked in customer service at one point, the latter is very often true.

Not fussing at you for the comment (because the chances of any of his family seeing this post here are slim to none ) but it bothers me greatly that his children are going to have to deal with this kind of speculation. From Paris's brief statement at the memorial service, they obviously loved their father very much and are very upset at their loss. I feel awful for them.

I kinda feel bad for them too. Kids of celebrities are kinda stuck. Their parents chose to became famous; their kids have never known anonymity, and they were never given the choice.

i don't think child stars had the choice to become famous, but I agree with the posts above. I really hope no one in my family tries to get in the business. Esp beauty pageants. ugh.

Michael claimed his dad would beat him with a belt if he made a mistake. So he didn't have a choice as a child.

quote from joe jackson:

"I never beat him. I whipped him with a switch and a belt. I never beat him. You beat someone with a stick."

They have that on camera, I believe.

I don't think all celebs kids are shoved into the limelight ~ but I think many are. Some people make a big deal of their kids and shove them into every photoshoot going. Others have the odd shoot and some just don't seem to go for the celebrity thing at all, keeping their kids well out of it. Pity there aren't more of them like that...

But then it's the public who clamour to know every single piece of information about the stars and their families...

Perhaps someone should 'whip' him with a switch and a belt and see whether he considers it a 'whipping' or a 'beating'.

Ruth, we don't own a TV so I have to go looking for the news and I am sometimes behind. I did read a great article about this, though. Well, not great as in great news, but great perspective on it. I forget where I read that, though, and I read ALL of the comments that people had sent in on it. Very interesting reading.

The guy has 4 sons with his wife, and he's one of 50 state leaders in this country. Where do they find the time for all this fooling around? Anyone? Anyone?

Apparently Mr. Sanford was originally very upset about what President Clinton had done while in office.

I don't know why these guys can't just either keep their sex lives to just them and their wives OR just forget about sex at all for a while and get about doing their work.

I just don't get it. I really, really don't get it.

I can tell you that if my husband were in a prominent position like that and had done that to me, that would be a devastating hurt and embarrassment. I hope he decides to try to save his family and not run after the mistress.

Jeanie
