Nor me... there's been a lot of affairs this side of the duck pond too, though none that I recall recently... they've been too busy trying to sort out the claims fiasco ~ which is pretty bad but at least has a humourous side at times...

No offense to your dd's dad intended. The thing with this dude's guitar is that I'm sure it's a one-time thing, but the customer service didn't quite do what it should've. I don't think it's United specifically; it seems to me that lately, customer service has gone from "the customer is always right" to "the customer is always lying."

Mind you, having worked in customer service at one point, the latter is very often true.

I used to work at Wal Mart at the courtesy desk......... I know exactly what you're saying!

Following on from 'United Breaks Guitars', I thought this showed a lot of integrity.

I agree.

I could tell you many horror stories of flying United. However, I flew United a lot. When you think of going round-trip somewhere on a monthly basis, that's a lot of flying. I think the only two times that really get under my skin was when I got bumped from a flight (by another employee who was drunk) and had to spend the night at O'Hare and another time when they lost my birthmother's wheelchair and only reimbursed her $50. Overall, my flying experiences with United have been positive.

Hmmm... I see they didn't say whether there was a charge for using the toilets!

Does anyone know why Current Events is given a lot more leeway in the nastiness/name calling department? I understand people can get passionate about these topics, but seriously it's pretty bad.

I know, I know, I just need to stay out of there and leave them to their name calling.

I think (just a guess) that fewer people are likely to file reports in there.

With respect, Ruth, I just looked over there to see what you were talking about, and neither you nor anyone else has reported that post, so how are the mods meant to know about it if no-one tells them? They can't read every single post everywhere. If something bothers you, it's honestly better to report it.

The people that I am referring too aren't technically breaking the rules. There are ways of being snippy and sarcastic and condescending without breaking TOS

I've seen people deleted for being "snippy and sarcastic" before, and they were also warned that they can't expect to get round TOS by being that way.

If the mods/admins aren't told about things, they can't be expected to know.

I'm with Manda on this. If you feel something is a bit much, it's worth reporting. It may not be TOS, but it may be appropriate for a mod to give a nudge about what is being said.

While mods have forums powers that the rest of us don't need, they are not superhuman. They can not be everywhere at once. It would be impossible for them to read every single post that gets posted everyday. When we see something that we make think is a violation, it's our responsibility to report it.

Yeah, I just figure it's not worth it, and the mods have enough work on their hands. Best just to stay out of it.

I don't think the mods would agree with you; I think they value our help in keeping the Community a good place to be.

You're right, Manda. I shouldn't have complained in Kicka. I'm sorry, mods.

Ruth, you don't have to apologize here for any of what you've said. You asked an honest question and you got some feedback. It was a fair question.

I read that thread (that I think you're talking about). I'm pretty sure I can't comment in there because none of that makes sense to me (how Christians can justify torture). Maybe I wasn't in the right thread, but we've had that conversation at home, DH and me, a million times. It brings my husband to tears to think of what they do to HUMAN BEINGS. Of which someone in that thread kept referring to those people as animals. Oh my. There aren't enough sad faces for that one.

Rebekah, thanks! Adam is peeking at YOU!

So....

what do y'all think of the military health experts proposed ban on smoking? This would mean no cigarettes sold on base and no one in uniform would be allowed to smoke.

I think to take that away from people putting their lives on the line for US AT HOME in our pajamas is ridiculous.

Also, the last thing we need are GI's who may be on the edge already being denied their smokes! I haven't been through withdrawal ever but I doubt it would be the best thing for a person with a gun or access to guns ;)
