I wouldn't know. Never met him. Unfortunately I've never met anyone in Christian music.

you live in TN! you should go to GMA week... you'd run into TONS of them! loL. most people just pass them on the street because they don't really know who they are... it's funny. yeah, SCC lives just across the street from Will (AA)...

I no longer live in an area where I get to listen to CCM, so I'm not excited about it. In fact, I don't even think it is coming on any of the channels in my area.

ORIGINAL: RHardin15 Yeah, one of my favorites is House of Heroes, and they are nominated for video of the year for their song "In The Valley of The Dying Sun" which is a great video, they should win. I also think they deserve Album of the Year, but the album was a digital only release, and I guess that's a reason to not nominate them. Since the album actually drops next month in CD format, maybe they'll grab that nomination next year. The album is absolutely incredible. I actually seen House of Heroes live before they hit it big.

Steven Curtis Chapman = 51 DOVES Michael W Smith = 33 DOVES Tobymac = 25 DOVES Third Day = 22 DOVES Chris Tomlin = 14 DOVES (in 3 years) Jars of Clay = 13 DOVES David Crowder Band = 8 DOVES (in 2 years) The following bands have each been together for 10-20+ years and are just as popular as (if not MOREso than) the above, yet..... Audio Adrenaline = 5 Doves Newsboys = 4 Doves Pillar = 3 Doves P.O.D. = 2 Doves Relient K = 2 Doves Skillet = 1 Dove Kutless = 1 Dove Hawk Nelson = 0 Doves Superchic[k] = 0 Doves seriously?? what's the deal here? :ugh:

ORIGINAL: Soxfan I'll save everyone a couple of hours in front of the tube. The winners will be (as they are every year): Third Day Michael W Smith Steven Curtis Chapman Tobymac Jeremy Camp Natalie Grant Switchfoot These artists could be dead and they would still win Doves. Don't forget about Casting Crowns! I highly doubt Switchfoot will take one home. They only have one nomination and they're up against SCC and Brandon Heath.

Above Nashgirl was talking about how the people that have been around for a while and are just as popular (and better imo) have gotten WAY less than others, and I just thought I'd add this little fact. She mentioned that Newsboys have only won 4 Dove Awards. As if that wasn't bad enough, the last one they received was A DECADE AGO!!! And, as most of you probably know, they came out with a new live CD/DVD last year. One of THE BEST live DVDs I've ever seen. Is it up for long form music video of the year? Nope. Not that it would even matter if it was because Casting Crowns and tobyMac are up for it and we all know how the judges love them.

IIRC- Rich Mullins didn't get any awards until a few months after he passed away.

Pillar = 3 Doves P.O.D. = 2 Doves Relient K = 2 Doves Skillet = 1 Dove Kutless = 1 Dove Hawk Nelson = 0 Doves Superchic[k] = 0 Doves These are mainly what I call "niche" bands. They're very popular with those who like their particular genre, but are not what I would call mainstream artists. And before you ask, by mainstream I mean getting lots of airtime. When Christian radio finally realizes there are more than a dozen artists out there these bands may have a better shot at some credit for their best work. Til that happens you're stuck with the usual suspects.

Just saying, when I wasn't saved, and even now sometimes, it can be hard to take the message of Christians as a whole serioiusly when the things they advertise to the world about themselves are... the doves... veggie tales... TBN... It is not mimicking the world, but they are showing honor to those who are working hard and perfecting their craft. Even the bible tells us to honor people as well. I'm glad we Christians have a award show which present the best in all music genres.

oscars, grammys.... and doves? If the Grammy's paid more than lip service to the whole Christian music industry, the Doves wouldn't be necessary. But until that happens, we're going to have them. And yes, I think artists should be recognized for their accomplishments.

Here is an idea--Why don't the male and female artists battle it out for their catagories, a la American Idol. And yes, they should have judges too. And perhaps phone numbers too to call. That will settle once and for all who is the best in their field.

ORIGINAL: musicboss11 I repeat my question in post #41 I don't know. I tend to believe that different people pick the nominees than whoever picks the winners. I know that in a couple of categories this year, we can vote on who we think should win, and that factors in as a percentage of the decision (probably not much).

And yes, I think artists should be recognized for their accomplishments. At least NARAS do reconigze those artists that does not play on "Family Freindly Radio. But it seems like every year, the artists who appear on that format do dominate the major awards, like this year. No offense to Casting Crowns fans or Steven Curtis Chapman fans, and yes, I do love them equally as the gospel artists too--we are all christians and all in this together. But I can tell you this about the awards and that is this year's presentation was better than last year. It was more of an diverse mix of artists in the first half (Kierra Sheard, Mary Mary) giving props to people who if it was not for their contributions (Dottie Rambo), CCM and gospel would not exist as it is today. I'm happy to see icons on that show this week like Sandi Patty and Larnelle Harris also. And I'm glad that it ended with the Blind Boys and Johnny Mac Powell singing and Edwin Hawkins closing the show
