Donna, I'm sorry to hear that you had no warning on your last insurance payment. quote:
We filed for SSDI back in January, but when we checked last week, it was still just "pending". They won't give any other info than that. If you didn't file for SSI before because of the insurance income, you can do that now. You can have both SSI and SSDI income at the same time (depending on your income and situation). I applied for both at the same time. They approved me for SSI while they completed the decision on SSDI. Social Security didn't bother to tell me anything, they just sent an SSI check. The wait times vary depending on which district you are in. I waited about 6 months. Do apply for TANF and food stamps. Is there anyway that you can apply tomorrow? In the meantime, can your church help you? Peace, Anne

Thanks, I will check on the SSI...I think you're right, we weren't eligible before but we should be now. So that can come even while you wait for approval for the other? We already have foodstamps and Medicaid, since right after the accident. I plan to go sit in the county SS building first thing Monday morning...apparently they don't make appointments for cash assistance. I'll probably call Social Security while I wait there then. This just isn't how I had my life planned, you know? Can't do any of it tomorrow. I'm taking the 3 big kids (and Esther) HERE. It's a couple hours away. The homeschool group got a very deep discount on tickets and I already bought them, so all it costs me is gas there and back. We're going. And I'm not thinking of any of this tomorrow. Not for one second.

Donna I do not post here very often, but I do read all of the time. Your family has remained in my prayers. Just wanted to tell you that I am praying.

{{{Donna}}} I hope something works out for you. That's a scary position to be in. Frustraging too. Stupid insurance companies. TV--I'm lucky with my dh. He really hates it. For a while he wanted to get some stations to watch news, etc, but he dropped that a long time ago. We watch dvd's, but if it's not "real" (documentary style) he's not interested at all. So I watch my worldly TV series early in the morning all by myself while I fold laundry and pretend to exercies. I really have my work cut out for me over the next two months. Josiah is talking seriously about going back to Ethiopia short term, just himself. He has a ton of family business to take care of, he wants to do some business prospecting and figure out away to set up a place for us to stay when we all go over--he'd like to do winters in Ethiopia and summers here if we can swing the plane tickets. If he can get into school there he wants to finish his RN there and hopefully have credentials then that are easier to transfer. So we're looking at a good 9 months, maybe more. He's got a house he needs to finish and get rented, and then we'll have a rental income we can live on. However, both he and my parents want me and the kids to come and live with them for the duration, which means moving again. He is going to block off a portion of the basement to put the big furniture in and the rest of the house will be rented. So I have to figure out what we can fit into an 10x12 space. Ack! And psych myself up for the prospect of being apart so long. To him it seems perfectly normal to do something like this, but to me the only people I know go through long term separations like that are military families.

Wow, Maggie! I will for sure pray for you! Update in my PFY thread...Brian's SSDI is approved, so I did not apply for cash assistance after all! Which is good because the lady told me I would be required to work at least 20 hours a week, which would mean putting at least Levi and Esther in daycare at this point, which is stupid because the county would have also had to pay more for daycare than I would have made. I can see the point of having people work to receive welfare, but there really should be some way to get an exception besides being a single mother! So I'm glad I don't have to do that...now we just wait and hopefully he gets the SSDI money soon...

YAY Donna...that's great! Maggie. Oh my goodness. That sounds like quite an undertaking, and I'll be praying for you. It WILL be hard, but you can do it Momma!

Maggie, you'll be in my prayers. What a tough situation for all of you. My husband worked away from home for the first several years we were married and I remember feeling at times like I was a single parent (I'm sure any of the military wives here can sympathize even better than I can). I need some chocolate, but I have had such a good day today and I exercised WAY too much to blow it all now right before bed. Say a prayer, ladies, I think I'm having a breakthrough lol! I just found out that my mother has pneumonia (sp?) and she went back today for a scan of her lungs and long story short, the docs found something in her breasts and she is going back tomorrow for more tests. I don't have all the details, but she has breast cancer history in her family, so we are praying. I am not close with my mother or father (super-condensed version - they are addicts) and so I am not sure what to do. Please pray for us!

Well that's good news Donna! We have good news too! My Brian goes back to work next Monday! We are not sure for how long but at least for now he'll be back to work!! HOPEFULLY it will last a while and once school starts again maybe I can get a few sub-teaching jobs to help out and to fall back on if he does get laid off again. I'll be praying Maggie! Would he be able to keep in contact via e-mails and maybe even web-cams? That I would think would at least help ease the pain of having him gone so far away! quote:

Said a prayer Jenn! We went to the zoo today - and saw a bunch of old friends from our former church! It was so nice to see folks that we hadn't seen in 6+ years! The poor kids didn't even remember each other anymore! Blessings, Garsy

Yay for the job garsy! We probably will be in touch mostly by phone. Technology is so iffy over there. You really have to be rich and able to afford the highest-tech stuff in order to get semi-reliable internet access. Maybe his brother can let him use email though, as he has an account through his gov't job. I'm thinking about the boys and how this will impact them. My dad will be a great stand-in for Josiah, but still, he's not "Baba". We did find a phone service with reasonable international calling rates, so hopefully we'll be able to talk often. The other yucky thing is if I get pregnant, Josiah wouldn't get home until 1-2 months after the baby. But if I don't, that's another no-baby year. Both equally unpleasant thoughts. I'm working hard on decluttering. It's overwhelming but I think I can do it. I took a load of stuff to the thrift store yesterday and I have another 3 big garbage bags full of clothes and linens, and 2 paper bags full of books. I'm trying to get us down to three boxes of books, 1 box of toys, and I'm not sure what to do about clothes. HOW did we collect so much stuff? What was I thinking we needed it all for??? That's my biggest battle every time we move. I have ridiculous emotional attachments to completely worthless stuff. I have more emotional attachment to some of my kids toys than they do! And of course, all the clothes I'm going to shrink into next year so I can't get rid of them.
