What is your policy for sick kids? If it were me, they would have to come get their sick kid or find another person to babysit while the kid was sick. I am sure your other parents will not like it if their child gets sick because of that baby.

I hope Aaron doesn't get sick, because when he gets sick, the rest of my boys end up sick and I'd rather not have 6 people in my house sick at the same time makes for a long week that way .

How come you didn't just say no to her?

Well, I only keep three babies, and two of them are siblings. I don't really have a "policy" in place, but I think I need to get one. I guess I just assumed ( shame on me, I know) that most moms would have and use their common sense, but I am thinking it is in rather short supply these days.

I won't hesitate to call a parent if their kid is running a fever, is obviously sick or miserable, or if their child's clinginess due to sickness is preventing me from taking care of everyone else. I have also called when a baby is inconsolable for whatever reason and I haven't (after a reasonable amount of time) been able to figure it out.

I discovered today that whenever Ms. Fussypants isn't here, the day goes much more smoothly, without all the crying and drama. Hmmmmmm.

Harvie, I saw a teeny tiny kitten this weekend and thought of you. It was at an event in our town and the local no-kill shelter had a booth where you could look at some kitties and apply to adopt one. I wanted one so badly, but I know it's not the right time. . . sooooon though

Sorry Manda, I think we cross-posted.

Well, she told me he is just teething, and she may be right, I don't know. He got shots this morning, although he's not fussy (other than the usual fussiness they get from shots). His nose is runny, but clear, and there's no fever. I just don't like runny noses when there's the threat of swine flu running amuck and so many people here in our little town have already gotten it.

Why not? Have you reached the CA limit on the number of cats allowed in the square footage of the house? Or the DH limit?

We've a large house for just 2 people and some kitties (4 bedrooms, 2600 sq ft not counting another 300 sq feet of Catio space), but at some point we need to manage kitty dynamics and personalities. We already have 2 kitties (out of the 9) who don't get along well, and they take extra supervision and monitoring.... so we're done with adopting for (probably) years. Instead, our focus is on giving the kitties we do have the best quality of life we can manage.

Shell, I wanted to look it up to see what's it in, but can't seem to find it. Are you sure it's spelled like that? And is that the brand name or the actual name of the drug?

What else have you tried in the past?

I use Paramol, which we can get over the counter here, and have never had any rebound headaches.

I think she maybe meant Topomax, it's a preventative migraine med, not just a pain treatment like Paramol(which I think is what we call Vicodin, which is a prescription).

I've had the best luck heading mine off at the past with the Excedrine Migraine(asprin, tylenol, caffeine) and then drinking a nearly icey coke. If I wait until I'm getting stabbing pain in my head, or nauseous then it's to late and I need Imitrex.

I didn't know that Topomax was given for migraines; I thought it was just an anti-seizure medication. I took it for quite some time when I was suffering from Bipolar disorder. Made everything taste like metal.

I am so thankful I've never had a true migraine. I have frequent headaches, but other than when I have an allergic reaction to sulfa (it causes my head to feel like someone is standing over me hitting my skull with a hammer), they don't usually hurt enough to make me nauseated. I truly feel for you ladies who deal with migraines. I have a cousin who suffers from them, and when we were kids he would get one and throw up and cry for sometimes two days. Ugh, horrible.

Harvie, if I could have 9 kitties, I would. I love cats, and I love their intelligent, quirky personalities. I think if I were an animal, I would definitely make a great cat ! Once Aaron is older, and potty trained, and not as liable to fall on top of one , I'm going to get a kitty. Maybe when he is in school, I will get one for company .

Gosh, that's quite a heavyweight drug.

My "early warning sign" is nausea, and I have Metaclopramide for that; if I manage to get that down me in time, I don't get the full-blown migraine. Sometimes it averts it completely, other times I "just" get the thumping head, but without the gastroparesis which makes it impossible to take anything for the headache.

I did once get something on prescription from the doctor for my migraines - she said it was the lowest level medication - and it made me feel horribly ill, including feeling dizzy, disorientated etc, so I didn't take it again. I found that ordinary paracetamol and codeine worked ok, but the Paramol works best of all.

Thanks that was the name of it. Sorry I am out of the medicine and don't have the prescription in front of me. I don't really see where it does that much good anyway.

Okay so this is what was suppose to happen today -

2 Kids up and out the door by 6:50
2 kids up and out the door by 8:30
hubby works on novel he's writing and applies for a couple of jobs.
I leave for school by 12:30 to do volunteer shift
Eldest rides bus to girlfriends house after school
Girl scout meeting for youngest after school
other two home on respective buses.
eldest walks back to the high school for 5 PM play practice.
I leave girl scout meeting at 5 with youngest - go to library til 6:30
Pick up eldest at 7 PM and come home to dinner that hopefully hubby remembers.

INSTEAD -
2 eldest miss the bus so hubby decides to take his laptop and go some where to write this morning after he takes them to school.

2 youngest did catch their bus but it wasn't a calm morning as for some reason they were bickering like crazy.

Then a phone call from the school telling me that my eldest has a detention that he has to serve next Tuesday. NOT good as that is the week of the play and I think he has dress rehearsals all next week. So I talk the disciplinary office into giving it to him today. Works easier for me and all involved - EXCEPT . . .

he just calls to say that they don't have a scheduled rehearsal next Tuesday. Oh well do it anyway.

and hubby has decided to go to his friends house to hopefully finish the van and forgot I had a volunteer shift today. GRRRR!

So I will be at the high school by 3:45 to pick him up and take him to girlfriends for a short time and then back to play practice then back to elementary school to pick up youngest from girl scouts. Then we wait a couple of hours at the library or wherever and then back to the high school to pick eldest up and finally home!

If supper isn't ready to go I might just have to scream!!!!!!

Blessings,

Garsy

What migraine symptoms do you get, and do you get any "warning" at all?

Today and yesterday are the best days I have had in so long! Yesterday, the kids and I blew off all responsible stuff and went to play group on the morning and then after nap, I loaded them up on a whim and went to the local Botanical Gardesn. It was so beautiful and peaceful. There was hardly anyone there. Hannah can wander around and doesn't have to hold my hand. Logan liked being in the big stroller. The leave were falling and the sun was shining after what seems like weeks of rain.

This morning, I woke up feeling refreshed and revitalize. I have been a cleaning frenzy. My house is cleaner than far before I had Logan. It smells so good. I think I will treat myself to some fresh flowers for my house. Logan has taken three short naps today. I will take it.

He recently turned 6 months old and I feel so much better. I love his smiles. I love that he cracks up and screams with laughter at his sister. Life is just good right now.

That's wonderful, Karen. I'm really happy for you!

I'm hoping the kids are good the next couple of days as Greg will be recovering from his surgery tomorrow. Greg won't be allowed to pick Nathan up or play wrestle for two weeks.

Garsy... You are sooooo busy! Yikes!

Ruth, praying you have super cooperative and cheerful children while he recovers. Do you have someone who can come take one or both of them for you if need be? Is your church bringing meals?

BUT - I have my van back!!!!!

After 4 months of not having it I'm THRILLED to have it back, but I think the kids are more excited then I am! No more cramming them all in the backseat of a tiny Honda. And we can finally ALL go somewhere together again all at the same time! That's been the hardest part of the last 4 months.

One more small repair - some wheel bearing thingie and my van should be just fine! And better yet? We are only a handful of payments away from having it completely paid off!

The fun part of all this is that at Zoe's girl scout meeting the girls got to meet and pet a skunk. Yes I said a skunk! Our computer teacher and her family, including one of our brownies, have a pet skunk! It was so interesting and fun for the girls!

And tomorrow the SAHM label will actually hold true!!! I'm not planning on going anywhere except to pick Aryn up from her writers group meeting and Ty from play practice if he needs to stay, and maybe Brian will do that for me!

Blessings,

Garsy

our van is dead
We think it might be the starter. Could be worse for sure...but it's our only car. Luckily, Justin was able to get someone from work to drive all the way out here today to get him.
*sigh*

In good news...ummmm.....no one is sick? That's good. Flu is going around here like everywhere else and none of my kids have gotten sick, that is a blessing to be sure.

And in other cool news, my incredibly sexy hubby nailed an 8pt buck last weekend. This is awesome, he is new to hunting...and he is a bow hunter. He killed that buck with a bow. Oh yeah. Awesome.

good news. It's just the starter. That's an easy fix. Hopefully we can find a refurbished starter for less than 100.

Bad news, there's no way I can go away next week. I was supposed to go to a women's conference for pwoc, but I'd need about 50 bucks. No go. Oh well. There's always next year!

BlessedMama, sorry to hear you will have to cancel your plans. Car trouble scares me right now because we don't have an emergency fund. Sadly a new dryer, car problems, and a bunch of root canals wiped it out. I don't like not having it.

Congratulations Garsy.

Ruth, I hope your children prove to be easy during his recovery.
