Why did Jesus had to be tried and tempted by Satan? Did He have to prove something? And to whom?

Good questions. I suppose the real answers are known only to God and Jesus. My thoughts: When Jesus came to earth He came as a human to share humanity with us so that we can accept Him and learn from Him. Imagine if He came like a God (which He was) like a Superman or such other hero. The people of the time would be in awe of Him and would only obey and follow Him out of fear or wonderment. Hardly free choice - is it? So He came as a human. He humbled Himself as a baby in a stable. Grew up with the poor and the down and outs - not as a king. As a human He felt every emotion that we feel. Sadness at the death of Lazarus, pity for the ill and poor, etc ... etc ... Including temptations. In the desert satan tempted Him: If you are God's Son jump from this temple, turn these stones into bread. Why don't you worship me? How often are we tempted too? Are there not times when, like a bright light in our head, we ask: Is this all real? Is there really a God out there? Jesus? Life after death? etc ... I hope not often that these temptations cross our minds. But satan is there; ready to put these and other thoughts in our minds to lead us astray. The closer we come to God the harder the devil works to lead us away from Him. No point in tempting the un-believers is there? So there you have it. Christ had to be tried by satan in order to share our experience but, most important, to be an example to us all on how to fight back these temptations. Through prayer. He was tempted again before He was arrested. He asked: Can all this pass me by? Then, He obeyed His Father and said: Not my will, but Yours. What an example for us all to emulate. Not my will, but Yours.

Jesus was tempted by Satan not to prove anything but to teach us how we should handle Satan lies. For Satan can come sometime, as a spirit of light because he can deceive us. Jesus show us how to deal with ways. For he come to steel our joy and lead us away from God ,that is when we have to stand firm. Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. You should also learn about the Full Armor of God Ephesians 6:10 God bless love Jenny

The answer, found in the Word of God is just one of the reasons I love Him so very dearly. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4: 15-16 Those words "touched with the feeling of" are defined: G4834 συμπαθέω sumpatheō soom-path-eh'-o From G4835; to feel “sympathy” with, that is, (by implication) to commiserate: - have compassion, be touched with a feeling of. Jesus was willing to go through every thing we will ever have to go through so that we might feel free to go to Him with all of our struggles, knowing that He is merciful, that He understands and that He will give us the grace we need to be victorious through anything we are called upon to endure. The verses I post here have been an anchor for my heart and soul through all I have gone through, including every test. Knowing I have my Jesus, who is there waiting for me with open arms, willing to help me, and Who will never condemn me in my struggles and Who understands what I am going through, makes me love Him all the more....

Jesus and trial Compare the temptation of Jesus with that of Adam and Even. How much different things would have been if Eve had answered Satan by saying, "I'm not sure, let me ask my husband" or if Adam had said "I don't want to field this one on my own, let's ask God". Adam and Even were vulnerable because they attempted to answer from themselves and apart from God. Jesus presents us with a perfect example of complete dependence on and closeness with the Father. Satan wanted to sift Peter "like wheat". I am sure that Satan asked God for every opportunity to get Jesus to falter. In Revelation the end of the age is described by the search for someone to open a scroll. It is asked "Who is worthy"? The lamb (Jesus) is found worthy. In a sense this is a picture of a title or deed for planet earth. Satan gained it through sin. Jesus gains it back through the sacrifice of love. The temptation of Jesus is a strong message that clinging to our Savior every second of the day is essential. Whenever we take our eyes off of Jesus, we become a sitting duck for Satan.

If He had not, the accuser would say he is not like men and knows nothing of their afflictions and we would not have a compassionate advocate who has not suffered as we do.
