W.O.F. -> What cute things have your kids said lately? (3/4/2009 2:53:23 PM)

so...spill the beans on those cute things your homeschooling kids have said lately...

W.O.F. -> RE: What cute things have your kids said lately? (3/4/2009 2:56:16 PM)

I'll start....

My youngest son (age 5), known here as Dustmop, was quoting me some Bible verses yesterday.

Without a single error, he quoted Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

He was then asked if he knew John 3:16 by his older sister. He proudly said "Of course I do." clears throat. "For God so loved the world that He gave his almost forgotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have returnal life."

He stops and smiles and says "I told you I knew it...but I think that one is the King James Version."

Me next...

Our 4-year old boy is a boy's boy, as my MIL says. Always moving. One Sunday Dad was having a particularly difficult time containing the boy, but he had a smile on his face anyhows. Why?

Lets back up to say that one of our ushers has an old mustardy-orangy-brown polyester suit, and he was wearing it that day, and happened to be sitting behind us two pews.

My son was looking back at him and blurted out, "Wake up, Gingerbread Man!" He didn't say it loud enough for me to hear or wake up the older gentleman, but my hubby got a good laugh out of it.

Gingerbread Man?!? I haven't read that to him for a REALLY long time.

My second son comes out with the most odd things.

I: "There's something I've very glad about"
"What?"
I: "Air has zero calories."

Also,

I: 'the 2 worst things I can think of 1)your parents dying and 2)being banned from fun. The only thing worse is if your parents die and your new parents ban fun.'

I liked how he picked out the myth which drives 87% of Disney movies.

This was more embarassing than funny. We were at a work related dinner. Josiah works with a bunch of husband-hating, bitter women. Seriously, they spend their lunch hour talking about how awful their men are, complaining, etc. (Which is kinda nice, actually, as they make me look like a great wife in Josiah's eyes!) They also think our family is *weird*. One of them was a schoolteacher before she became a nurse, so of course her project for the evening was "testing" our Asrat's social skills (and offering to "tutor him in any subject!" [8|]). He obliged very nicely, chattering away, answering all the questions, etc. I was in the hallway listening with half an ear, when I hear him say loudly "....Yeah, and you know what? you know what? We listen to Dr. Laura!" He said it like it was the best thing in the world. [:D] And I looked into that room and it was like all the air had been sucked out. Zooop! All the women were pursing their lips and struggling to find something pleasant to say. [8D] Finally one of them managed to get out a question "Oh, and what do you learn from Dr. Laura?" and I jumped in and said "He learns that if he ever mistreats his wife, his loving mother will come over for a visit and the paramedics will have to scrape him off the floor with a spatula". [8D] Hoping that would soothe them, but for the rest of the evening it was really awkward. [:o]

What a wonderful mother. [:D] Or even better maybe I should say "What a wonderful mother in law"

his_chosen -> RE: What cute things have your kids said lately? (3/18/2009 9:39:08 AM)

Ds2 was finishing up his geography. This was NOT his favorite subject. He skipped one of the questions, so I asked him about it. His answer--"they lived happilish ever after". Happilish?! What??? Since then, he's been working on "New English". Yah, he's 14yo.........

Ike has a lot more things but I can only remember that he was so happy that people aren't hollow yesterday. [:D]

I have no idea why. The things that run through his head sometimes. He's a lot like his Daddy.

Auben -> RE: What cute things have your kids said lately? (3/18/2009 3:30:54 PM)

I think my favorite Ike-ism of all time is the day we were riding in the car and all of a sudden, out of the back, he yells,

"We're in God's Hidden Picture Book and I found the comb!!"

Sure enough, he was holding up a comb.

Yesterday we were on our way to a 4-H meeting and having a lively discussion over whether or not the people in the Bible sinned or not. Abby was trying to make a point about certain people in the Bible who didn't sin, and Jay jumped all over for it, telling her how in the Bible times even the Israelites often had household gods, and how everyone had sinned, no matter how godly they were.

Abby kept trying to interrupt and get her point across, and finally she managed to tell us that she was specifically talking about Patriarch, Meshach, and Abednigo and how they didn't worship the image like the king told them too. Again, Jay brought up the "For all have sinned..." passage and told her that even though it wasn't recorded, even Patriarch, Meshach, and Abednigo sinned because everyone had sinned.

At this point Sarah jumped in the conversation and said, "Everyone except for Dad. I mean Jesus." [:D] That brought down the house. I told Erick about it later on, and he got a kick out of it.

Bagel -> RE: What cute things have your kids said lately? (3/20/2009 11:34:08 PM)

Ok, I did post this, sort of, on my FB page, but not everyone here saw that. I'll preface the tale by saying that my Dh does drink alcohol, my kids know that it's not good for them or anyone else really, and my 10 yo son is sometimes like a 5 yo due to him having Asperger's.

We took our son to the doctor yesterday for shots. He hadn't had any in awhile. The nurse started off by showing him the cotton ball with the rubbing alcohol on it, let him smell it, and telling him that this is not the kind of alcohol that you drink. My son said, "That's GOOD alcohol!"

zoebob -> RE: What cute things have your kids said lately? (3/21/2009 9:00:13 AM)

DD1 had a physical for school this week. As part of it they were telling her things like not drinking, doing drugs, etc. Then they had to give her 3 shots. She wasn't very happy about that but put up a good face. The nurse came to swab her arm with the alcohol and she said "But you said to stay away from alcohol. I guess I can't get my shots.[:)]"

Bagel -> RE: What cute things have your kids said lately? (3/21/2009 1:30:13 PM)

my Dd reminded me that Ds said "Liquor" instead of alcohol

I have 3 memorable moments. My young daughter had communion and looked at me and said "I'm still hungry". #2 The nurse was putting in an IV before her surgery and she told her to relax that it would just feel like a bee sting! What a comment! My daughter yelled "I don't like bee stings!" #3 We were working on a Bible study the other day and talking about how it would be for when Jesus comes back. My 14 yr dd thought for a moment and said "remember when we go for our long trips for several weeks and come home and everything is so nice, familiar, good and we are so happy to be home...that is what it will feel like." Don't you love being a mom!

betterisoneday -> RE: What cute things have your kids said lately? (4/26/2009 8:06:01 PM)

My 5 yo and I were on the floor studying a rather realistic-looking toy cow and he asked "What is this called? Where the milk comes out from." I told him that was the udder and teats and we got into it being only the females that give milk so he looked at me for a second and said, "Mama, you have udders." [8|]

locomom -> RE: What cute things have your kids said lately? (5/3/2009 2:05:54 AM)

We homeschooled our dd from the middle of 1st through high school. She is the oldest of my in-laws grandchildren by 7 years. On a visit to the area where a lot of my husbands family, our the 7 yo old niece who is not homeschooled, she was talking about what sports she and her sister liked/were involved in currently. She said that she liked soccer, but wasn't on a team this year. Then she declared that she was home-soccered.

My favorite comment about homeschooled kids said by my the 14 yo daughter was not an oops. She and another homeschooled girl were goofing around with a couple of other friends before youth group started. In a spirit of fun, one public-schooled friend made a comment about the social skills of home schooled kids. My dd answered, "Oh, we have social skills; we just don't always use them."

Mr. Manly was at a friends overnight and all day long. When he came home, he wanted lots of kisses since he had missed me and my kisses. He told me I was the best kisser in the world and that there never has been and never will be a better kisser. I told him he was going to change his mind when he got married, because he would definitely think his wife was a better kisser than me. I didn't tell him that his wife would kiss a lot differenly than mama, only that she would kiss better. He was sure I was wrong and was worried about how he was going to avoid hurting his future wife's feelings over thinking his mama was a better kisser.

Cynthia- LOLOLOL- you should have taped that to play on his wedding day- or at least the rehearsal dinner!

Yesterday Eleni made up a song about getting married first and then having kids- that was an interesting tidbit from out of the blue...

I was the subject of a funny from one of my hsed Cubbies. Her mom was talking about sin and K had no problem accepting that mom, dad, grandma, brother sister, etc. sinned. Then she tried to tell her that even people at church and even her teachers sin- her eyes got real big and she said, "But not Miss Jen" and mom told her that yes, I did and K replied..."Oh, no. NOT Miss Jen" while shaking her head- LOL I'm glad someone thinks so!

THe school play is this week for the school where I work and DD1 attends. It is running for 3 nights. DS (8) said "Wow that must be a looong play" (as if it took 3 nights to do the whole thing.

Room2Grow -> RE: What cute things have your kids said lately? (5/13/2009 11:47:22 AM)

Eleni and I were talking about Q and U and how they are best friends, etc. etc. So after all this, I asked her, now that she knew the sound and the rule, how to spell "quit." She thought and thought, I reminded her of the rule and asked again, "Come on, I know you can do it, how do you spell 'quit'?" She looked me right in the eye and said.... S-T-O-P.
