More debate within the scientific community ...

quote:

Scientists meet to dispute global warming theory

NEW YORK CITY - The A-list of manmade climate-change skeptics is meeting in New York City for the 2009 International Conference on Climate Change.

The Conference is definitely international in scope. Opening the conference is Vaclav Klaus, president of the Czech Republic and the European Union. When it comes to manmade global warming, Klaus calls that a myth. He is also an outspoken critic of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and says the panel is one-sided and has a political agenda.

Featured at the conference will be more than 70 scientists who do not subscribe to the notion that so-called global warming is driven by manmade emissions of carbon dioxide, one of those being Harrison "Jack" Schmitt -- one of the last astronauts to walk on the moon.

The Conference is being hosted by The Heartland Institute. Dan Miller is the director of public relations at Heartland.

"What we are trying to accomplish with this conference is to present to the politicians and to the public that the debate is not over about global warming or climate change; that there is plenty of room for disagreement; and that sound science shows that the earth is not warming," says Miller.

"For much of the latter part of the 20th century there's been a mild warming as we come out of an ice age -- but the planet today is much cooler than it was a thousand years ago."

Besides the 70+ scientists at this conference, more than 650 scientists worldwide have expressed skepticism over manmade climate change.

There seems to be daily news now about how our government in America and other governments are moving quickly to bring new regulations, controls, laws, taxes, and spending based upon the idea that man-made global warming is an absolute fact, that it is a dire emergency, and that we have the power to "fix" it.

Given the number of scientists who question some or all of those conclusions, is anybody else out there concerned about all of this government activity and it's long-term consequences?

I believe the whole "global warming movement" is geared toward governments gaining power and control over everything that produces anything so that they can manipulate what businesses/economies can and cannot do.

Instead of turning to more nuclear power which emit no greenhouse gases and drilling for more of our own oil, the new administration is turning to renewables (wind & sun) that produce less than 1% of our electric energy. These renewables can never produce the large amounts of stable electric energy needed for our current power grid. New power grids must be built to support such power generation.

God has placed sufficient resources in the earth to get us to the end of the age, if we are responsible enough to use them. The warming cycle which began in the early 1980's and lasted for several decades now seems to be headed towards a cooling cycle. But the global warming alarmists have placed into motion a movement that will now ignore the facts of global cooling in order to gain control of world economies. This is what the global warming movement is all about, while preaching the message that there is no God, and man must save the earth from man.

I guess I don't see where you're coming from. Even if the government did turn to nuclear energy, wouldn't they be able to control that as well?

You know, what really kills me about the fools who go around wringing their hands, crying aloud about what kinds of damage we are doing to the planet, is the hypocritical ignorance more than anything else. These are by and large the same people who believe whole heartedly that the earth and all life on it has evolved over the course of hundreds of millions of years. They also believe that within that time there have been many mass extinctions due to unknown cataclisms and global disasters that wiped out virtually all life during different eras. Given all of that,

What do these people think that humans are capable of doing to the planet that will destroy it and all life on it to the point that the earth will never recover?

If they actually took the time to think about it, they would discover that their fears fly in the face of their own logic! They admit freely (and proudly) that the planet has always healed itself from every major disaster it has faced. So why would they be worried about a little spike in temperature? It's not like we are bringing an asteroid down to strike the surface of the planet... Even if Global Warming was true, what would be different other than inconvenience to some species and extinction for a few others? Isn't that what has always happened in the history of this planet, according to most "scientists"?

SonInMe1 -> RE: Global warming (3/27/2009 8:29:37 AM)

The basis for global warming isn't science but politics. Its about power, who weilds it and how much control a certain aspect of society can have over the great huddled masses ( you and me ).

Great stuff here:

Here's an excerpt:
quote:

FOR MORE THAN HALF A CENTURY the eminent physicist Freeman Dyson has quietly resided in Prince ton, N.J., on the wooded former farmland that is home to his employer, the Institute for Advanced Study, this country’s most rarefied community of scholars. Lately, however, since coming “out of the closet as far as global warming is concerned,” as Dyson sometimes puts it, there has been noise all around him. Chat rooms, Web threads, editors’ letter boxes and Dyson’s own e-mail queue resonate with a thermal current of invective in which Dyson has discovered himself variously described as “a pompous twit,” “a blowhard,” “a cesspool of misinformation,” “an old coot riding into the sunset” and, perhaps inevitably, “a mad scientist.” Dyson had proposed that whatever inflammations the climate was experiencing might be a good thing because carbon dioxide helps plants of all kinds grow. Then he added the caveat that if CO2 levels soared too high, they could be soothed by the mass cultivation of specially bred “carbon-eating trees,” whereupon the University of Chicago law professor Eric Posner looked through the thick grove of honorary degrees Dyson has been awarded — there are 21 from universities like Georgetown, Princeton and Oxford — and suggested that “perhaps trees can also be designed so that they can give directions to lost hikers.” Dyson’s son, George, a technology historian, says his father’s views have cooled friendships, while many others have concluded that time has cost Dyson something else. There is the suspicion that, at age 85, a great scientist of the 20th century is no longer just far out, he is far gone — out of his beautiful mind.

I too am suspicious of the so-called global warming and other environmental stuff they herald in our ears constantly.

I came across a New Ager guy speaking about 2012 by the name of David Wilcock. Now, while I was raised conservative evangelical years ago, I want to say going out the door I do not agree with all his philosophy, but he does do research along side his teaching and is an interesting mixture of science and physic stuff. The reason I brought him up was because he does not believe in this stuff either, at least not "man made". Rather, somewhere in one of his lectures he made a comment (and he backed it up with evidence) that even the other planets' atmospheres in the solar system are changing. He believes its some sort of cycle. Now, we can't blame man-made pollution on that now, can we?

No, and I never understood, why Christains who say they are just tending Gods creation ( which I do also) forget the sixth day of mankind, destroying life.

SonInMe1 -> RE: Global warming (3/31/2009 8:33:27 PM)

To me, ideals like global warming can only flourish, and indeed are intregal, under socialism.

Afterall, without fear, no one would be socialist and you need something to be afraid of to BE socialist.

Hence, the rise of socialism is also the rise of non-scientific global warming scare.

It must be proven that man is depraved and in need of "better" men to control them. That..is socialism. So first, you must prove man is fallen..at least most of mankind. Thing is, the bible is clear...ALL are fallen. This flies in the face of socialism since their premise is...most are fallen, well except the elitist socialist/liberal.

So, besides the fact that liberals/sociailists add to global warming by all their hot air....[:D]....man made global warming cannot exist outside of socialist agendas.

I expect in thirty years, it will be global cooling.

Lets see, when I was a kid in the late sixties and early seventies, it was pollution. Over population. Global cooling.

There were predictions we would be polluted and overpopulated by today and in dire straights. Oil would have run out.

All I can say is I'm stocking up on my soylent green.

When I was a kid, in the 40's, I remember my grandfather talking about us heading for the next ice age. I remember very deep snows (here in Maryland) with ice crusts on top, where everyone walked on top of the several feet of snow that accumulated, from a storm and/or drifting, before the sleet fell to harden it.
By the time I was a teenager, in the 50's, we were doing duck, roll, cover head and hide under our desks, because Russia could blast us off the face of the earth at anytime; no-one thought about the next weather change coming, cause we wouldn't be here to see it anyway. I never dreamed back than I'd see the turn of the century [2000].

It was the same in the late 60's too. We practiced in school getting under our desks in case of a nuke attack.

Fear...ain't it a wonderful thing?

Last week I heard the funniest thing. It seems that some scientists are getting so worried about Global Cooling, that they are considering ways to put more pollution into the upper atmosphere to help hold in some of the earth's heat. I am not making this up. As soon as I find the link I will post it.

John_O -> RE: Global warming (4/28/2009 8:27:11 AM)

Some fun pictures in the link below. Apparently globull worming started well before 1959 as there was no ice at the north pole.

Here's a few links to articles on supspot activity. Apprently the sun is the coolest it's been in almost 100 years. Coming down from the hottest it had been in a while. Could it be that the sun's normal cycles are responsible for global warming and it wasn't those evil SUV's after all?

Look especially at post 35 on this thread'Quiet Sun' baffling astronomers [SUN SPOTS HAVE DISAPPEARED]

Be prepared for a few more cold winters before we warm up again.

There's some good info to be had if you dig through the comments on that page.
What is a Polynya?
Submarine measurements show ice thinning over 2nd half of 20th century

The sub would've searched for the thinnest part of the ice to break through rather than just blindly ramming into it.

Which lines up quite nicely with the increased sunspot activity (warmer sun) over that time period.

I really don't think those evil SUVs caused the ice to thin startiing in 1959 or earlier.[:D]

Mother Earth looked ahead in time and realized that the vile evil person George W Bush would one day be elected President and she got so angry that she started warming.

So we now know it is "Bush's fault"
