Due to the length of some of the PFY threads, it has been determined that the ones that are ongoing should be closed and restarted each year, thus keeping the post count down a bit. Those who have ongoing PFY threads of over 10,000 posts, please restart them soon (by the beginning of April). Then from now on, please restart them each year. Thank you! Tricia Forums Moderator

And those of us who have substantially fewer posts in ours? My thread has less than 2000.

According to the rules, if you have less than 10,000 you can wait till Jan 1 to start a new PFY thread. Then every year you'd need to start a new thread.

Aren't all PFY threads "ongoing"?

Well... I've seen a few birthday threads that went on for a while.

I'd say I usually just get the stick, but that wouldn't be quite on topic. So....

Even if it was a birthday thread that went on and on, I would think it would either die or need a new one for the NEXT birthday, so that's still one a year. This is to help forum speed, isn't it, Tricia? I don't understand much of that stuff, but there is a reason for the new rule, from what I understand.

Speed is also one of the reasons the Humor & Games threads get cut off after 2500 posts. Also, with too many posts, the threads go goofy - they don't work correctly. So to alleviate this problem, cutting off the threads at a certain point is necessary. The amount of volume we do on this forums software is stretching its limits, and this is one way of trying to keep things working. So, there are at least 3 reasons.

ORIGINAL: WhiteRoseBlessings Actually, Tricia . . . many times, the threads go goofy from Post 1. I know we're talking about two different goofynesses (is that a word) . . . but I felt it my duty to point that out. I was gonna say that.... Great minds at work again!

It's a PFY thread started in 2009. The new rules say that it can stay open till 2010 rolls around--as I understand them.
