So, I come home tonight, and let Doggie out. I notice her at point, with her nose in the grass. I don't see anything for her to be pointing at. Then a bee buzzes by and she leaps on it. She's happily playing with the local wildlife, so I go on about my business.

A few minutes later, I go back to let her back in. On the patio, she has placed 5 dead baby bunnies. She looks at me with a whole body wag and that happy face, "See what I did for you, Mom?"

It's hard to be upset with her. She's just being Doggie, and she's so happy she did such a good job.

The backyard is fenced. I haven't seen a rabbit in the backyard in weeks. I can't believe a mama rabbit lived to see the day from coming in the backyard and either having her babies there or moving them there. If I knew how to skin rabbit and was prone to actually eating them, my dog would keep me in meat. My backyard is a safe haven for Bunnies.

OK pet parents. I need help. As you may have read in the prayer thread smart dog has cut his paw. He is supposed to keep his paw dry but I cannot find a bandage that will stick, they all fall off. Does anyone have any idea what would work? I have tried every type of tape I can find in the first aid section at the store.

Yes, trainfan. I'm really sorry about your dog. It can be painful to watch them, too, can't it?

Go to your local farm-type store. In the horse section there's a kind of wrap they use on a horse's leg for bandaging that's tacky. It comes in a variety of vivid colors. You may also recognize this as the binding the Red Cross uses to tape your arm after a blood donation. I don't remember the name of the kind of tape, but describe it, and the employees should be able to point you in the right direction.

Yes it can be painful to watch them although he doesn't seem to be in much pain.

He was so freaked out by the lampshade collar I don't think he slept at all yesterday and I know he didn't eat much. So today I had take your dog to work day and he has been sleeping on his pillow behind my chair. At least then he doesn't have to wear his lampshade collar since I can make sure he's not biting or licking his paw. I think it will be a take your dog to work week for me. Watching him in his lampshade collar would have been kind of funny if it wasn't so sad since he would run into things get freaked out by the sound and try to run away and end up running into something else and repeat being freaked out.

Thank you for the advice now I just have to find a farm supply store. Not too many of those in the city.

What about online? I know you'll have to pay shipping, but it may be easier.

I hope he's ok. My mother had a dog that used to chew the lampshade collar and always managed to look so pleased with herself for getting it off!

I talked to my horse owner friend. The product you're looking for is called vet tape.

Here's a link to one such on-line vendor:
http://www.horse.com/3M-4-Vetrap-Bandage-Tape-BHV50.html

(The link function didn't seem to be working.)

It's actually a handy product to have on hand for personal first aid. The price is right, too.

I'm a single pet parent of my cat Smokey, who likes to cuddle up on my chest and purr while I pet him. He also likes to catch bumblebees and play with his feather toy. He does have a bad habit of peeing in inappropriate places at times, but otherwise, he's a well behaved kitty.

The thing is I need the tape sooner rather than later. So on-line wouldn't work too well. I went to a different grocery store this morning and they had a much better selection so I got the strongest tape I could find there. It said it was hospital grade but who knows if that's true.

Basically I have to wrap his foot in a gauze type material and then tape that on and that is where the problem is, most tapes wouldn't hold on to his hair so the bandage falls off if he walks around too much.

He hasn't managed to get the collar off although he is probably smart enough to do it. He is too scared to move with the collar on b/c he runs into things and the noise scares him.

He's content, he gets to come to work with me so I can keep an eye on him so he doesn't have to wear the collar and make sure he's not licking or biting his foot. I just haven't been able to get him interested in doing any of the inventory input I have to do.

This is why it's called "a dog's life". They don't do anything... they just "are".

Craig - I'm surprised the vet didn't help you with that. Isn't that what they're there for?

Their bandage didn't even last 6 hours.

I called them to ask them to rewrap it and they told me to do it. I didn't have the regular vet or I'm sure it would have been wrapped better in the first place but when they fit you in you get who you get.

When my girl catkid had her paw bandaged at the vets I said I did not think the girl would leave the bandage on. The vet confidently said "Oh she will try to get it off but she won't be able to..." Before the vet finished the sentence the bandage was off and kicked to the floor.

This is the same cat that was given a pill by the vet, who assured me the pill was swallowed. Then as I was paying the bill spit the pill out into the vet's hand as she was petting and praising said cat for being such a good pill taker.

The vet the smart dog reguarly sees is one of the oldest and well respected vets around here. He used to be the vet for the local zoo. I got one of the younger vets this time. I'm pretty sure if I got the regular vet it would have been wrapped better.

She is a sweetie of 17 years. Has chronic pancreatitis and a stroke last year. But she keeps scratchin and purrin away.

Ohhh... diva... what a cat!

My friends have the purrrfect cat! He comes running to the door when I go over to take care of him when they are away. He wants to be held and cuddled and rubbed on and played with. If I stayed as long as he is willing to play and cuddle (and I have) he'll tire in a couple of hours! Most cats I've owned and met won't even come out for viewing when a non-family member arrives at the home.

Trainfan... how cool is it that your vet was the vet at the zoo!

My vets are a couple of younger gals. They purchased the business from the older guy who retired... and then just a few months later, he was out mowing his yard and dropped dead of a heart attack. Our community is saddened. Anyway, I'm not particularly happy with the new folks, and am thinking I'll move to a different vet next time.

My girl comes to greet me when I come home but she is not a snuggler--just wants a pat then she is on her way. But my boy just loves to sit in my lap all 18 pounds of him!

pruned--finding doctors for our furry family members is as hard as finding one for ourselves. Has to be just the right connection.

It took a while to find this vet. The ones I went to with the dog before smart dog were younger guys who ran a huge operation. The assistants would come in ahead of the vet with a huge laminated menu of services and then try to either guilt you or hard sell you into all kinds of crazy tests and procedures like EKG's just b/c the dog was over a certain age.

My vet is great. The only thing she's suggested that I try is an oral care kibble for Munchie because of plaque build up. I switched and the vet says her teeth are sparkling and clean now (she had them scaled over 2 years ago to get them on the right track).
