LOL!

Have to confess, Munchie is pretty good about not complaining about food. She will cry if she has no water and/or no biscuits and when I'm about to give her, her beloved meat (she'd eat meat all the time given the choice) she cries.

And if I'm awake too late (like now) she'll come up and tell me off and wait until I go to bed, then sleeps with me!

I have to admit to being a terrible kittygrandma in that respect - I shut my bedroom door so they can't get in to sleep with me. Actually I wouldn't care if they would just sleep! But the one that likes to be upstairs with me also likes to nudge my face all through the night and to lick my hand to try to get me to pet her... I don't get much sleep if she's able to get in my room! So I don't open the door until I get up to the bathroom really early- then when I go back to bed for awhile I leave it open so she can come in.

I was adament that my last kitty wouldn't sleep in my bed. She had other ideas! She was a sweet thing though and very good so it didn't bother me ~ if I moved, she would simply rearrange herself. Munchie took so long to trust me that I simply didn't have the heart to shut her out of my bedroom ~ and to be honest, the house really isn't big enough to shut her out of a room.

Awww, thanks- that made my day. And I needed it today too!

It happens one paw at a time . That and with dogs, one big ol' brown eyed look at at time! Cats just don't do "the look" quite the same. .

(BTW- someone's PM box was full yesterday afternoon... and I lost a very long post to it... sigh)

So are you going to have Gilly delete a few slobber posts? You know part of being a petparent is teaching them how to share and not hog the whole space- whether that is bed space or posting space . Oh ya, and teaching them how not to share half eaten or slobbered on toys, doggies treats and slippers! Especially the slippers - sticking feet into slobbery slippers in the middle of the night make the eyes go !

See, this is exactly why I prefer kitty cats... they have much better manners than dogs!

Woke early this am with a migraine and took some meds but it was a couple of hours before I could handle getting downstairs to feed Munchie. Did she complain? Nope, just curled up with me. Fed her and crawled back to bed then slept most of the day, including past her normal supper time. Did she complain? Nope. When I went down to feed her, I realised that not only was it past her suppertime, I hadn't put out any biscuits for her that morning.

Now isn't she a sweet kitty?

She is a sweet kitty indeed! I do have to admit that my grandkitties would not be so well mannered, lol. Especially the salted nut roll- she would be complaining LOUDLY, .

Oh my goodness............I hate this.

Gilbert is a springer spaniel. Before we bought him for dad, dad had another springer, sammy, who passed away. Being naive we thought a springer spaniel is a springer spaniel........nope........apparently you can have a wet mouth or a dry mouth springer.........Sam was a dry mouth.........Gilbert is a wet........

Wet mouth.........any time he gets really excited and jazzed up he foams at the mouth like a Saint Bernard (the movie Beethoven for all you non dog people)..........it is disgusting.......

Yes agapetos she is a sweet kitty..........though it is easier to be a known as sweet if you sleep most the time...........

Don't cats sleep like 20 out of 24 hours? Or is that just big cats like lions and tigers?

You are right about cats sleeping Joy- I think I have read that they sleep more than most any other animal.

LOL, poor Gilbert- a wet mouth . Did you ever see that movie with Tom Hanks and the dog that had all that nasty slobber all the time? I can't remember the name of the movie at the moment, but I can still 'see' him (the dog )shaking his head and slobber flying all over the place! EEwwww. LOL it was soo gross- my kids loved it, lol. Boys .

Hmmmm.... I think our lab had the long tongue in the world! Yep. Always a good idea to stand back...

But apparently, you dear doggie owners, have not experience the "gifts" that kitties can bring. You might think being slobbered on is bad.....

Nothing in the world like having a dead mouse or dead bird dropped at your feet.... and as you sit there gagging horribly, said petlet is looking up at you with adoring eyes waiting for you to praise their wonderfully amazing hunting skills...

Or having the insides of the critters left on the porch as if it were some odd sacrifice ritual....

The feathers all over the yard are quite a nice touch too. Brings that whole outdoor / color scheme together

Ah yes.... the wonderful petlets that brighten our lives.

i had a cat mouse, that i think brought mice into the apartment and played with them.

Twice on 2 different occasions, i was awoken to my crazy (sisters) cat who was running around the apartment. And twice i had to smooosh the little critter with a broom to get it out of the place!

terrible memories!

though, the saddest day was bringing the cat to the SPCA cuz i was moving and couldnt bring her along!

So, it seems she would sleep somewhere using the same space when I'm not home, and she chooses to use the crate. The question is... why do I feel badly if the door to the crate is locked?

Because you were putting her in the crate and not giving her the option of where she slept. Now she has the option (if you're not locking it).

Yes... I realize that's why she chooses to sleep there. I just don't understand why I (sometimes) feel badly about her choice.

Rationally, I don't always feel guilty. It makes sense she would like to get cozy there. It's the best of both worlds: a place to sleep and a place to watch the world go by. The crate is near an a/c / heating vent, and a large window from which she can see outside.. and the critters which want to share her outside space.

I am so sorry. These little guys worm their way into our hearts and lives . . . and then to have to give one up unwillingly! That's so sad!

I've had cats exclusively until I adopted my dog. I've heard it all . . . screams, howls, the softest politest "mao" a cat can utter, and purring as loud as a drum roll. They've been naughty and nice, brought "presents", chased mice, slept with me and kept me awake.
Ahhh! I'm a cat person!

.
.
.

And then I decided I wanted "someone" who would be more protective than cats can or will do. I wanted a dog to bark, to warn me of a strangers and passersby, or to warn them of her presence. I had only had her a short while when she alerted me to a stranger trying to enter my house through the front door. She's worth her weight . . . and more.
Ahhh! I am a dog person!

My mother used to have a dog that would lap water up and hold it in her mouth... then dribble it across the room!

One of her dogs before that would eat his food then walk over to someone who was sitting down and wipe his face in their lap!

"What the Lion is to the Cat the Mastiff is to the Dog, the noblest of the family; he stands alone, and all others sink before him. His courage does not exceed his temper and generosity, and in attachment he equals the kindest of his race."
Cynographia Britannica - 1800

What the quote doesn't tell you is that Mastiff owners learn quickly to keep towels nearby at all times, esp. at the watering bowl.

I promised Gilbert I would take him for a walk in the woods tonight since I don't have any big plans........

It is raining

Do I still have to go?

Is a promise to your dog still a promise?

I think he will forgive you if you don't go. It's funny the smart dog gets himself all amped up when the weather is nice b/c he knows he'll get ot go out and walk or play but if it's raining or cold he doesn't get all hyped up.

hmmmmmm so there is a possibility I may go home and he doesn't want to go?

You know one thing which always makes me go hmmmmm about dogs or at least Gilbert.

Most days I leave and though he looks sad he accepts it........but there are certain times........I am not sure what the trigger is........but he will be determined he is going with me.

It is almost like he has decided he just has to go some where........and he won't take no for an answer........

What do you think the trigger is?
