500 calories more then you normally eat, if I remember right. The total is different for every woman depending on their normal needs. However, it should be 500 more then when you are not pregnant, not pregnancy calories + 500. That is how I gained 10lbs ;)

Sharon- I am so proud of you for nursing.  You can do it, and I know that he is gaining from it! He sounds like quite the little eater! 
So I pumped today and gave Dylan his first bottle. I was curious to see how much came out of one breast, and yet I wanted to see how he did with a bottle. He took it with ease, and drank that and I put him back on the other breast right afterwards, as I didnt want him to be confused with nipples. I found out that I love it when he is on me, and not fed with the bottle, but eventually Mommy and Daddy will want to go out at some point and leave him home with a babysitter, so I thought that introducing a bottle today was good. Wont do that often, maybe once a week just so he knows that it is there. But I got almost 2 ounces out of my right side, so I am glad to know that he is getting a good amount from me. He should be, Dylan is a pig. He eats every 2 hours on the nose, both sides! I feel like I should just duct tape him to my chest!

Mrs Wifey had it right...500 more calories than what it takes for you to maintain your normal weight....which really comes out to an extra glass of milk and a pbj sandwich (or a medium apple with 2 tbs pb, )
It really isn't all that much more...but it is MORE calories than it takes to maintain a healthy pregnancy....that only takes 200 to 250 more calories a day....

Personally, what I had to watch the most was making sure I drank enough water or decaf tea (unsweetened). As long as I ate reasonably well I was ok, but definitely had problems if I didn't drink enough. That was easy to do the first couple of months after Josh was born because it was summer and hot, but when it cooled down I really had to push the water.

That is a huge factor...I used to keep a water bottle next to the rocking chair...I'd fill it with ice and water in the morning and would make myself drink it every time I sat down with baby..that way..by the middle of the night feedings..the ice was melted and I'd have a bottle of water to drink (I used the refillable coffee cups usually).

another downfall of that (the not drinking and uti's) is getting kidney stones......trust me...NOT fun in the least!

Woo Hoo.....Derrek gained 2 oz in two days! So, I guess my milk is doing it's job. Also, my breasts are not feeling as swollen as they were. I got scared yesterday morning because I put him to breast and he sucked for a while, then I realized he was not eating. I tried the other side, same thing happened. So, I pumped and got tons of milk from both sizes. I'm guessing he was just not hungry but needed/wanted some comfort sucking.
Oh...funny story.....we were at the doctors and Derrek was getting weighed. We undressed him, cleaned up his bum a bit since he had a dirty diaper and the nurse put him on the scale. As soon as he hit the cold surface, he peed...all over Ray's shirt. We laughed and Ray was a good sport about it. The only bummer? After that he weighed in at 5lbs, 15 oz. Had he not peed, I'm SURE he would have made the 6 lb mark! LOLOLOL....
Since I'm using the shield to nurse (he can't get a good latch without it) I have to pump a few times a day so my milk says flowing. We are still supplementing a little with the breast milk, but it seems he prefers to get it from me and not from the little cup. Trying not to use a bottle right now. I'm pumping a lot of milk, and will probably start freezing it. I think when I get a big enough stash, I'll go to bottle feeding until it is gone. Then we may switch to formula. Really, a lot depends on how this sleeping thing keeps going. There is no question, Derrek TOTALLY has his days and nights mixed up!

Other than eating or when we change him, he does not wake up during the day. We have tried to wake him....does not happen easily.
I would say his "awake" hours right now are from like 2 or 3 am until about noon, with some naps here and there. Now, we have done better with keeping it dark and uninteresting during night feeds. The night feeds themselves are not bad. It is him wanting to stay awake and not go back to sleep for half the night that is not so easy.

Sharon, the best thing we did to help get days and nights sorted out was to make sure that baby never went more than 3 hours during the day without eating- if that meant waking them up, we did it. After a few days of waking them up (even if it made them cry) every few hours and changing clothes/diapers, playing, etc. then feeding (which contrasted at night with dark rooms, no interactions, just change the poopy bum, feed, sleep). It seemed to help a lot- hopefully you'll both get it sorted out soon! Hang in there though, it sounds like you are doing pretty well!

I hope this is ok to post, and if it's not, please delete Mods. I mean no offense.
But, if you knew for a fact that BFing was killing your sex drive, would that encourage you to wean a little earlier then you might've otherwise done? I'm trying hard to be a loving, sexy wife for my hubby, but he's not stupid, he knows I'm just playing a role. And while I might be a decent actress, it hurts him to know that I don't genuinely want sex, as much as I do honestly want to make him happy.
I'm not on any sort of hormonal BC; my thyroid levels are fine. I get.. ok sleep. It's not great, but it's not newborn sleep deprivation either. I got counseling for my self-injury problems, so there's nothing else left. And yes, I know that for me personally breast feeding is a big contributor to the problem.
Greg doesn't want me to wean before 1 year, so maybe I should just honor his wishes that way. Beth won't be a baby forever, it just feels like it should be wrong to let our sexual relationship slip away. We still enjoy cuddling on the couch and talking about our day. Maybe that's enough for now.

That's a hard one...because you have two things going on..
YOUR need to have a sex drive...which is VERY IMPORTANT..and your husband's need to have you fully participate....
and then you have his wish for you to NOT wean before a year.
Maybe you should just talk to him about how this is going for you....and see what he says then.....
YOU both need to weigh in on this one.

The way that I see it, our dh don't want us to just pretend that we want them and do it without the desire being there. It doesn't make them feel very good about themselves or our intimacy. I think that we need to listen to what they want and if they are okay with things being as they are, we should be, too.
Honestly, a few more months is not that long in the grand scheme of things, and intimacy doesn't just 'go away' forever... I promise...

Somewhere between 1 and 2 months Josh became a once every 3-4 day pooper. That lasted for quite awhile.

Yes, dH was very clear that his daughter's health should not come before his sex life. I don't know if we'll be able to wean at exactly 1 year, but at least we should have her weaned before spring. She's nursing less and less during the day, but is still attached to nursing at night or before naps. Beth has been a challenging one for me.
In the meantime, dH and I are trying to work on being more connected emotionally and intellectually. Instead of going to separate areas when the kids are in bed, we try and spend some time talking, cuddling, etc. I still try to give lots of hugs and kisses.
And yes, a few months isn't that long.
