After trying and trying to get through so many of her books and finding out that they're utterly boring by the end, I'd have to say don't read anything by Sara Douglass. Ugh.

Also, I couldn't even get through the first Twilight book. I just set it down one day and forgot about it- I think it's still lingering under my bed with a bookmark in it.

I love the Twilight series but i agree, the first book seemed to be rather poorly written and dragged through some parts. If I had not seen the movie and was intrigued by the characters later on I too, would have put it down. By book 2 and 3 the writing improved. I love the vampire characters and how they were developed but the human ones missed their mark. Bella just didn't seem to make a whole lot of sense and neither did some of the other aspects of book 4. I love how she transformed the vampire lore and made them a bit more human rather than monster. (no coffins, no avoiding sunlight, no cross, holy water, or garlic avoidance, people killed by vampires don't become vampires themselves, etc.) I enjoyed the twist on the typical vampire legend.

See the twisting of the vampire legend is what ruined it for me.

The Lovely Bones -awful, sappy, new-agey, melodrama.

The Book of Ruth by Jane Hamilton.

We had to read so many books a semester for Honors English Junior year. I read a book that wasn't on the list, and was in a bind. I grabbed the first one I THOUGHT could be decent. It was awful.

Drugs, rape, abuse, alcohol... The whole book centers around an EXTREMELY delusional family with the life story of abuse to the daughter to guide the way.

The Red Tent. Similar situation.

Gone With the Wind and all similar romance garbage. Yuck. Ruined generations of women.

Hey! GWTW is my all time favorite book!

The books that I wouldn't recommend are books that are contrary to the Word of God, like The Shack.

I wouldn't recommend any Stephen King books.
