and how much do you leave to the other members of your family? Do you do all of it? Do the other family members help out? Do you divide all the housework evenly? Do the other members of the family do more housework than you do? Do you have a maid?

I do it all. DH usually cleans out the cars, but I take care of everything within the house. DH is working and going to school at night, he just doesn't have time to help with a whole lot.

I do more of it than any other family member individually, but the kids help out quite a lot. Usually I'll start cleaning the kitchen or something and thinking about all the other work that needs to be done, and then it will dawn on me, "I don't need to do all this myself!" So I'll call all the kids together and assign jobs to them. I'll tell one to dry dishes and one to clean up the table, one to clean up the bathroom, one to clean the hallway, and two to pick up the livingroom. When they are done with one task I'll assign them another and we'll all work together until everything is done. We can get the house cleaned up in about 30 minutes to an hour, not including bedrooms. Those usually take an additional hour or two, depending on how fast they clean and if I help them directly (by picking up with them) or indirectly (by giving them a time limit and telling them how many minutes they have left to get it done).

ORIGINAL: Consecrated2God and how much do you leave to the other members of your family? Do you do all of it? Do the other family members help out? Do you divide all the housework evenly? Do the other members of the family do more housework than you do? Do you have a maid? I'm an adult living at home, so my answer will be from a different angle than most. Plus, my mom is on the recovering side of breast cancer, and my dad is recovering from a bad car accident and in a wheelchair at the moment, so keep that in mind. I'll answer the questions in backwards order... quote:
Do you have a maid? We do have a lady that comes once a week for 4 hours a day. However this house is way too big to expect any one person to clean it all in four hours, so my mom just has her do whatever is most crucial that week. Sometimes it's thoroughly cleaning the kitchen, sometimes it's ironing, sometimes it's cleaning the bathroom, sometimes it's thoroughly dusting/vaccuming the living room. Also, since I finally started getting rid of some things for about the first time in 35 yrs. (yes I'm 37 now but this project has taken a long time) and also my sister and I traded bedrooms...I've had a few girls to help me sort and organize and toss (never more than 2 at once, and usually just one at a time) ...it's easier for me to let stuff go if I don't touch it as I go to do it, plus with everything else going on the task was just overwhelming..after doing much decluttering and organizing the task is almost done, but I do have a girl helping me on Tuesdays, but should only need her a couple more weeks. After this, I have no interest in ever being a pac rat again. I also do take my car to a car wash. quote:
Do the other members of the family do more housework than you? No, but under their circumstances, I don't expect them to. My mom is cooking again (but she loves cooking...it's like a hobby to her)..and she does her and my dad's laundry, and takes care of their bedroom/bathroom herself. Even before my dad's accident, he didn't do much housework inside but he did TONS of yardwork (we have 3 1/2 acres), and never asked us to do anything out there..my mom has one little garden area...we do have yard guy ..did before the accident too, but that's mostly for mowing the lawn part..that's only part of our yard..we also have an orchard and a pasture, and trees and bushes and planters... quote:
Do you divide all the house work evenly? I dunno, never really measured... quote:
Do you do all of it? no quote:
Do others members help? yes, as they're able quote:
How much of the cleaning/housework do you do and how much do you leave to other members of the family? I do all of my own laundry, all of my disabled sister's laundry, and all of the kitchen towels and dishcloths, and the towels from the main bathroom, I'm the main one of keeping the kitchen clean but sometimes my mom does it..I try to keep the main bathroom and the laundry room picked up and cleaned..especially on Wed if our cleaning lady wasn't in that area because we have Bible study at our house on Wednsdays..I cook occasionally, but not a whole lot, and would like to do more..I do my own bed making, dusting/vacuuming my bedroom..I take care of my sister, and do quite a bit of the grocery shopping for her food, and take care of her room and belongings along with feeding her 3x aday, putting her on the potty, keeping her in clean diapers, bathing her, etc...which reminds me, I clean/disenfect her potty and her changing pad every day. I'd say we're all pretty much satisfied with things.

The kids are supposed to do all the dishes but a couple times a week I jump in and do some pots and pans. DD1 does her laundry but the other two are afraid of the basement and can't reach the bottom of the washing machine so I do the rest of the laundry. They each put away their own and take turns folding and putting away towels. They do most of the vacuuming and clean the bathroom. They all pick up their own stuff. I don't have a maid but I am a maid for 2 other households: one job is every week the other is every other week.

I do all of it. Hubby has a few days off a week but even on those days he doesn't help do anything. My daughter tidies her room every night, she helps to fold washing maybe once a week and puts hers and her brothers away and she vaccums her and her brothers room. She also unstacks the dishwasher every morning. She also sweeps outside almost every day, its her new favourite thing to do and way to help us

Do you divide all the housework evenly? Nope, I am a stay-at-home-wife and my wonderful DH works more than full-time. Do the other members of the family do more housework than you do? No. Do you have a maid? I have a cleaning lady named Heather who comes once a week. She vaccums the whole house, dusts the whole house, cleans all three bathrooms, and mops the tile floors. I keep the kitchen clean, I keep things tidy and picked up, and I do the windows and specialized cleaning (blinds, ceiling fans, etc.) I also scoop our cat boxes twice a day, sweep the laundry room and ducky bathroom twice a day, and I de-furr the furniture twice a week.

I do it all.. cook, clean, laundry, outside chores, shop, take out the trash, clean kitty litter, etc the only thing the husband does is wash the car.. I clean the inside of it. The girls are just starting to get broken in to chores. I make them put their toys away, hang up their coats/put shoes in the closet, put their dirty dishes in the sink, dirty laundry in the hamper, hang up their towels, and working on making their beds. Still working on aiming garbage for the garbage can instead of between couch cushions or the floor Do we have a maid? yes! LOL... ME!!! The only thing I do not do is general maintenance... eg.. I don't do the tool thing.. if there is a leak.. *shrugs* not my territory. I'll unclog a toilet, but that's about it.

I'm single, and I do everything myself (except drive myself to the grocery store). I intentionally have never had a maid since I've been an adult (we had one when I was a child).

I used to do it all with some help from the girls(their chores)when they were home. I felt it was divided evenly even though my husband did no housework at the time. He worked hard so I could stay home with the girls and he took care of all the yard work, so he more than handled his share. Now it's just my husband and I, and he has taken over a few things(all the vacuuming and heps with the dishes and laundry) now that I'm back in school full time. We'll never hire a maid or cleaning service even when I'm working full time and can afford it. I don't like the idea of strangers in my home, and I know myself well enough to know, I'd just clean behind them and further clean it myself anyway With just the two of us, and both of being neat freaks, it's very easy to keep up on things for ourselves.

I do pretty much all of it. My boys are helping with more though, they have to clean the bathroom floors (since they forget to aim in the middle of the night...) and they've been doing well helping with the dishes lately. And they love to pull weeds outside. We're about to move in with my parents though and I'm not sure how it'll go then, figure I'll try to do most of it just because I am trying to find an evening, part-time job so will have most the day to do chores with my boys.

My husband usually dumps the trash, although sometimes I'll have my oldest son dump it now. He also keeps the lawn mowed and if I'm running behind on housework he'll pitch in and give me a hand. I don't usually ask him to help with housework because he works so hard. Sometimes I'll pay the kids extra money to odd jobs that aren't really part of their daily chores, although they do get points towards earning money for regular jobs too. But if it's something I feel is really my job to do, I'll pay them for it. I also give them the option of turning down those jobs, but I have enough kids that someone is usually willing to take me up on it.

Do you do all of it? Do the other family members help out? I do all of the housework. Laundry, dishes, cleaning, cooking, take out trash, shopping, budgeting, even mowing the lawn, etc. a lot of the time. The kids are only 2 and 4 so they only do basic things like pick up their toys and put away some of their clothes. 4 y.o. can fold washcloths so he does that. Do you divide all the housework evenly? No, but that's fine with me. My job is manager of the household. I don't mind it. I actually love it. My husband is gone nearly 14 hrs/day working very hard, so I don't expect him to come home and work more. On his days off he works outside doing major stuff I can't do and taking care of his animals. Today we worked in the garden all day, tomorrow we have to vaccinate the calves and trim goat hooves. Yay! Do the other members of the family do more housework than you do? No, not housework. Do you have a maid? [/quote] Nope! My house is only 800 s.f., I'd rather do it myself, lol. I did have my house cleaned professionally one time when I was 8 mos. pregnant and working and going to school and just couldn't get it done (that particular house was 2-story and had 3 bathrooms), and I was very dissatisfied with the service.

I do all of it. The kids are 3 months and 2, so they can't really help yet (well, the 2 year old tries to help, but, you know.) As they get older they will have their own chores when they can handle it. Even when I was working full time and hubby was just sitting around at home, I still did all of it. Now I work from home part time and watch the kids fulltime, and try to cram it in there. At least he doesn't complain if it's a mess. Granted he knows if he did I'd tell him he can jolly well do it himself. ;)

My younger siblings were not so compliant, so my parents started paying them! I still complain about that to my mom Of course, in light of all the things my parents paid for (college, wedding, generous gifts, etc.), I don't think it matters that they never gave me 10 bucks for moving the lawn

We even got him his own play kitchen, broom and vacuum cleaner. My dH works full time and spends a lot of time here at home on household projects which are very important but aren't part of day to day cleaning.

My 4 year old always wants to help put away dishes, but he can't reach the shelves. Sometimes the "help" of the littler ones is more of a hindrance than it is help. I usually let them "help" for awhile and then tell them I can manage the rest myself and send them off to play. It's funny how they grow out of wanting to help just about the time they are old enough to be useful. quote:

Ever see the show "7th Heaven?" I feel like the mom without the kids! Since losing my job and being home full time, I pretty much do it all. Inside and out. But, while some of the daily chores like dishes gets old, I LOVE working in the yard and doing handy stuff around the house. I have really taken on the home manager role! The things don't do and my husband does: -clean cat litter and dog poo -take out trash -being in the Army, he likes his clothes rolled up a specific way. I just fold them and then he will roll them and put his clothes away. -he will cook sometimes too. We both love to cook and I have no problem letting him do it when he wants. -he will also help with other things if I ask him to.
