Sharon, if we had a yard I would probably be taking care of that too, lol. Not because DH is lazy, but because I love that sort of work(and home remodeling too) and it just isn't DH's thing. He would be better at cleaning inside the house then out Although I suspect once we have a house he will enjoy that stuff too, he always liked it as a teenager when he helped his mom with her(exceptionally fabulous) yard.

We don't really do too much with our yard, except for mow it. I don't have much of a green thumb. My husband takes care of all of that. He usually plants a garden and I reluctantly help with that. I'm not a big fan of getting eaten up by mosquitoes and chiggers while I'm pulling weeds.

I'm very good with delegating chores between the boys, but time is our problem. I only have a few hours a day with them during the week and I don't like wasting them cleaning. So during the week we generally pick up what we're using, but if something gets left behind it's okay. Friday nights the kitchen gets swept and picked up, the living room picked up and vacuumed, and the bathroom cleaned. Generally the boys do all of this while I'm starting dinner. On weekends they each have rooms they're responsible for as well as their bedrooms and they do the yard. Thing 2 generally waters the plants and Thing 1 mows. They HATE helping out but you know...I'm their mother; not their maid. We are a small family so everyone has to pitch in.

I do the grocery shopping and the laundry (although hubby will switch out loads if I need to go out). For the rest of the day-to-day stuff (dishes, picking up, doggie chores), whoever has the time at the moment does it. We have a rule in our house...if it's bugging you, then you do it. If you don't contribute, you don't get to complain. For the big stuff, we bring in a maid once a month. Hubby used to do all the lawn work, but since he started on blood pressure meds, he can't take the heat as well, so we're getting help on the landscaping. Frankly, I'm just about the least domestic woman you'll ever meet. So, I manage my home largely by minimizing what needs to be done and outsourcing what I can.

We both work full-time, so we split it up pretty well. Brian is really helpful and I appreciate that so much. We keep the house picked up as an ongoing effort so that de-cluttering is never an issue. We find it to be so much more efficient that way. Him: usually dinner (he loves to grill) and dishes, trash duty, taking care of our cars, mowing/edging/weedeating. He will also cheerfully vacuum if I run out of time and ask him to. Me: Laundry, bathrooms, dusting, vacuuming/mopping, paying bills, deep-cleaning kitchen, grocery shopping, trimming the hedges, and weeding.

Do you do all of it? Do the other family members help out? I don't do all of it, but it seems like I do because the boys have to be 'managed' quite a bit on their chores. Dean is wonderful at spur of the moment chores (and works hard at it) but not so good at scheduled work unless we are doing it together. Do you divide all the housework evenly? No, although I try to be even with the boys chores. Do the other members of the family do more housework than you do? No. Do you have a maid? No, although Dean has been mentioning it at least once a winter for the last few years. I get so bogged down that he thinks I could use the help. Really I think it would be a big bother to bring a complete stranger in (makes me anxious) plus I'd have to actually figure out what I want them to do. Blech. Maybe if I had things under control it would be nice to have one to help me keep it under control but we have to pick up the floor before we can vacuum if you know what I mean.

It's funny how people keep equating having a cleaning lady with having a stranger in one's home..our cleaning lady isn't a stranger...she goes to our church and we've known her for years, she's been a good friend of ours for years..since long before she ever worked for us. A while back, my mom did try Merry Maids but she didn't like them because they only do set things, whereas M----- will do whatever my my mom asks of her.

People I"ve cleaned for have been people I knew or that my family knew. One couple lives in a retirement community and they have cleaners that come around but they were so afraid of breaking things that they wouldn't dust well or anything.

After I had my 2nd baby I was blessed with 3 months of bi-monthly housecleaning. The cleaning girls were homeschooled teenagers who started their own little business. My mom knew the oldest girl from a Pregnancy Resource Center she volunteered at. So, they were a stranger to me but not to my mom who hired them.

I wish I could afford a cleaning lady. Oh well, my kids are a big help. Although they make most of the mess anyway.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, my mom NEVER had a cleaning lady when she was at your stage in life (no way with most of their $ going to christian school tuition...yes, she would've liked to homeschool, but people didn't think of that back then...although I was home schooled for grades 11 and 12 and my younger sister grades 8-12, but my older sister, never---and the very youngest sister is disabled, so she was back and forth between home and special ed). Back then, she just put her kids to work, lol. This business of hiring people is new to our family within the last few years. So maybe someday you'll have one someday, at a later stage in life.

(and everyone was soooo relieved when she got better and came back! . Ah, I'm sorry.... Maggie, I actually have a friend that lives in your city, and is on disability and gets REALLY BORED. I told her to go volunteer for you, lol! She's actually game to the idea, but she doesn't feel ready to meet you yet. Let me know what you think (that is if she ever goes all the way for it, lol).

I wouldn't even want my mom or sister going through my home cleaning it. Not because of lack of trust, just...because. lol. If I absolutely needed the help because I was unable, I would, but I like things a certain way and would just do it over again anyway.

I'm not that picky, I just want it clean. We'll be hiring a cleaning lady toward the end of my next pregnancy and will probably keep her on through the first couple post-partum months(or forever, lol). I don't want my house to be the wreck it was last time when my mother got here. The poor woman had to clean up when she got there... Not that she really minded, but still...

It's just DH and me. I do most of the cleaning, but he does give the bathroom a good scrub down about once a month or so. He helps with dishes once in a while and does laundry sometimes. He loves cooking so he cooks often. He will basically do anything if he sees it needs to get done. He mows the lawn but I trim the edges with a weed wacker and do all of the gardening. I think things are split pretty equally.

I'm not picky, either, but on the other hand I've had family members who have cleaned for me and caused problems. Once my sister-in-law was helping me after I had a baby and she soaked my electric griddle in the sink to clean it and it didn't work after that. She cleans for other people for money, too. You'd think she would have known better than to put it in the sink.

It's a Presto. The electrical is all in the plug. HERE you go. Maybe it shouldn't go in the dishwasher but it is fully immersible. I guess I've never put it in the dishwasher but I think I did with my old one that was similar. That was never a problem.

Wow, that's interesting! I've never seen an immersible electric griddle before!

My old one was an Aldi's brand. All the electrical stuff is in the plug. When you plug it into the grill it completes a circuit and the metal gets hot but there's no electricity in the griddle part.
