It's funny how people keep equating having a cleaning lady with having a stranger in one's home..our cleaning lady isn't a stranger...she goes to our church and we've known her for years, I guess for me, If they don't live here, I don't want them cleaning. I wouldn't even want my mom or sister going through my home cleaning it. Not because of lack of trust, just...because. lol. If I absolutely needed the help because I was unable, I would, but I like things a certain way and would just do it over again anyway. You're probably very thorough, then. My mom and I both admit that M----- is more thorough than either of us have EVER mangaged to be..... ...though we've tried. Funny, though, M------- isn't like that in her own house, but when she's working for others she is amazing.

I am more thorough for others than I am at home too.

Hard call for us. I work full time +, and Dh is in school part/full time. He does nearly all of the cooking because he loves it. He loads the dishwasher, but I empty and put it away. I generally do the wiping down, tidying up, and picking up of things because he tends to not realize that it needs to get done. We both hate vacuuming, so we asked for and received a Roomba for a Christmas gift, and it does the vacuuming for us. We take turns cleaning out the kitty box, and whoever runs out of clothes first (usually him) generally starts the laundry. We each fold our own stuff and put it away though, so doing laundry is mostly a matter of switching the loads. As for the outside....well, we generally just ignore it. We have desert (rock) landscaping in the front, and its pretty low maintenance other than pulling weeds. The backyard is more or less overgrown with weeds and we just can't figure out what to do with it. Every time we cut it down the weeds just grow back. We don't spend much time in our backyard anyways (too hot, and its really small).

Everyone in my family does their own laundry (I don't have little ones anymore), I do the additional laundry--towels, sheets, etc. I do most of the cooking, most of the time DH or DS will clean the kitchen up at night, but if not, I do it When we're at home, we don't have a cleaning person--I usually do the bathroom. DH does the floors, DS vacuums and dusts-we don't have a system, we just all pitch in when we see it needs doing. Mostly! There are some things that I do that I don't think anyone else ever thinks about, but they help a lot! We travel a lot with DH's job; at times we live in a furnished corporate apartment for months at a time--during those times we have a cleaning person that comes in every two weeks. Some have been not so great, but we've been at our present location for 10 months and one we have now is a real jewel; I'd love to take her home with me!

I do most everything at the house... all the cleaning inside, taking care of all the animals, Laundry ( which we don't have a washer/dryer at our house, so I have to go wash it some where else) , grocery shopping, taking trash out, cooking and paying the bills The only thing my hubby does is take the trash to the dump, and ocassionly cuts grass... He works full time and I know its hard work and so I don't mind cleaning house and doing all that when I am not having to work but since I work part time my hours vary from 4hrs to 44hrs and so when I am having a busy work week...then I have to come home and do everything myself it gets tough lol

Sometimes I'll pay the kids extra money to odd jobs that aren't really part of their daily chores, although they do get points towards earning money for regular jobs too. But if it's something I feel is really my job to do, I'll pay them for it. I also give them the option of turning down those jobs, but I have enough kids that someone is usually willing to take me up on it. That is really cool idea, my parents never would give me the option of turning it down lol Presto griddles are nice, I want to get a larger one then the one I have

We got married at 31 and 33 years old so we were both used to keeping our own places clean and doing it all. I think that helped. We have never had to have a conversation about taking the trash out or doing the laundry. If it needs to get done then one of us does it. But the breakdown in general goes: Him: all lawn work (yes, Maggie, he pulls weeds by hand, too) --- we have an amazing yard, mowing the grass or shoveling the driveway/sidewalk (depends on the season). He can also rappel up a tree to take it down (like he had to do last year). He cleans the garage, keeps our bikes in working order, keeps our cars in working order, does the whole load of baby laundry (cloth diapers) every.single.day, pays all the bills/handles investments, bakes banana bread about once every two weeks, builds things like a new bed for us in his wood shop in the basement, and will cook any night of the week or breakfasts on weekends. (He is a good cook.) He also does the dishes whenever (and certainly whenever he has made a mess in there). He also will make mini-trips to the grocery store. Me: Make beds, do his/my laundry start-to-finish including putting the clean, folded clothes away (which I do not like doing but I do it), clean bathroom, clean kitchen, pick up after baby (that one happens about 97 times a day), run errands for the house, change lightbulbs (I'm usually the one that notices they're burned out), paint whatever needs to be painted, get birthday cards or gifts or wedding stuff together, buy clothes for the baby as needed, make sure we have office supplies here (stamps, envelopes, post-its, etc.), usually I'm the one who cooks dinner. I usually handle it all when we entertain and he takes care of the baby so I have two hands free. It is a good system and it works because there isn't anything on either person's "list" (there is no list) that the other person wouldn't or hasn't done. My husband works really hard in his job and it takes a lot of his hours and a lot of his energy so I am grateful for the incredible effort he puts into our home life, too. Jeanie

Of course, women don't get days off, so we can't ever get praise for doing work on them. Shoot. I get praised for cooking/cleaning on Sunday's Sunday is my day off, I don't do much besides go to church and hand around the house, but I will cook Sunday dinner and clean up afterwards. Sounds like a nice system, Jeanie.

My pastor actively encourages, from the pulpit, that men with SAHW/M take over all the household stuff on Sunday such as cooking, dishes, etc so she has a day off.

Actually, he mentions all the mommy things too: changing diapers, dealing with the kids arguments/crisis, etc.

Oh, well DH has always done those things when he is home on the weekends so I think of that as a given.

For some reason I dislike hanging pants the most, so he hangs up his pants himself. :D quote:
change lightbulbs (I'm usually the one that notices they're burned out) Ooo, me too. Our ceilings are high (10 ft, I think?), so I always have to get out a small ladder to change bulbs. Brian's balance is not good because of his cerebral palsy, so that's one job he relinquishes to me. I'd rather climb up on the ladder than him try to do it and hurt himself!

Most of you ladies who have help from your hubby was it always that way ? Or something that later came into play?
