Simply obedience or what one knows to be right and doesn't 'do it to him it is sin.' Signs can be tricky to decipher because they're easily 'bent' to our liking and desires. If a person truly is looking for a word of confirmation/vulnerability the HS will convict him either by a 'sign' bolstered(confirmed)by scripture or scripture that confirms a 'sign'. The HS will never leave one hanging however his confirmation for us often is not exactly or isn't even on the same page from our limited imagination.

I have never asked for signs from God, but they show up nonetheless when I least expect them. For me He is telling me "I am with you" These moments defy the laws of probability and coincidence and are something non-believers can never understand. It started a couple years ago when I completely lost my faith and became deeply afraid of death. I was depressed all of the time and could not focus on anything else. I stopped for lunch one day in a Chinese restaurant and opened a fortune cookie that simply said "Hang in there, its not over yet" I have never read one like that before or since. It sounds silly, but I believe it was meant for me. It started my renewel of faith and my search for a relationship with Christ. Six months ago we took a trip to Las Vegas with my daughter and son-in-law. She is a Christian, he is not. I have always known my daughter has some obsessive compulsive issues but discovered on the drive that she doesn't like the number '4.' This is the first time I had ever talked to her about it. We tried to give her examples of 4's that were good, etc. and the conversation continued until we pulled up to the hotel. My daughter went to check in and when she walked out she had a big smile on her face. She said "God has a sense of humor, our room number is 444" She felt God was telling her that she was going to be just fine. On a flight to Hawaii I was determined to read the Gospel of John. I pulled out my Bible and started reading. I had a hard time getting through the first page, closed my Bible and said to my wife "If all of John is like this, I don't think I want to read it." The very next day, the topic of the daily devotional we read together each morning was titled "Treasuring Your Truth." It was about how millions of believers around the world would give anything for the freedom and ability to read God's Word. God's message was loud and clear. I am almost finished with the Gospel of John... Many Christians have these experiences. It would be great to have a place where they could be collected and shared.

How to Hear from God When You're in a Crisis Bayless Conley - Answers with Bayless Conley A number of years ago, I tried to rent an apartment from a lady I knew. Oddly enough, even though she was a Spirit-filled, church-going, Bible-toting Christian, she wouldn’t rent me the apartment. I found out why a few days later. When thinking about renting me the apartment she had prayed, “God, if I’m supposed to rent the apartment to Bayless, the telephone needs to ring so many times before 2:00 pm.” Well, the phone didn’t ring enough times before 2:00 pm that day, so she thought it obviously wasn’t God’s will for her to rent the apartment to me! You may laugh, but Christians do this kind of thing all the time. If there is not something specific in the Word that directs us concerning a decision we must make, we often want a sign from God to give us direction… especially when we are in a crisis... Read the rest of the article, How to Hear from God When You're in a Crisis... Have you ever sought an outward sign from God to help you make a decision? What was the result? Do people do this to often? Seeking The Kingdom and all these things will be added, for whatsoever I Have Commanded and If one asks anything according to The Will one knows that what was asked was given. For the natural things speak of what was of the Spirit, invisible. Yet, Jews look for signs, and greeks wisdom for all things come from God through Christ Jesus to whom all authority in Heaven and on earth is given; and The Father is Greater than all is written. For when one sees the least of these among the Children, one sees Me. For death came through the law of sinful nature of the disobedient inner being, but Grace and Truth came through The Life Who Is Living and Active and Sharper than a double edged Sword; dividing between spirit and soul and tabernacle.
