I'm just posting this as a warning to you who don't think going and dancing to that music like that is a big deal. Ask yourself this question- What would Jesus do? Well, considering He spent a lot of his time with the worst sinners of His day, I would say He wouldn't mind stopping by. quote:
Would He want you there dancing to that, like that? If it would lead you into sin, then nope, absolutely not. But if it wouldn't? Then I don't think He'd mind. Also, I commend you and your boyfriend for responding faithfully to your conviction. Good job! : )

Any opinions would be cool Why should the devil have all the good music? Nothing wrong with the music as far as I'm concerned - be it rock and roll, folk or whatever. (Although I prefer Country). The louder the better. But if the lyrics were immoral, or the dancing was lewd - then you have a point. However, as Mr Fribbles said: Jesus went amongst sinners because that's the place where they congregate. So, you were right to be there. You were right to stand up for your beliefs and principles. Not many people like you around.

ORIGINAL: MrFribbles Well, considering He spent a lot of his time with the worst sinners of His day, I would say He wouldn't mind stopping by. The above is a misconseption (yet a very popular one) of Scripture; Christ did not "Hang out" with sinners. Now the Pharisees accused him of this, but they were referring to when the sinners came to see Jesus and find out what Christ was all about. He did not condone sin, and He did not enable sin. I applaud the OP and the actions that were taken. Thanks RC

ORIGINAL: deadhorse Then why was he called "a friend to sinners"? You don't get the reputation for nothing. I am sure Matthew's house was full of baptist deacons or the feast of Cana was loaded with good AOG teetotalers. He brought sinners a way out of thier sin and into the Kingdom of God; He did not condone nor encourage sin. Thanks RC

Although you and bf spent the most of your time out in the cold, I am proud of you. God spoke to you and you listened. No, you weren't comfortable outside. But,you were comfortable on the inside of you becuase you listened to your heart's conviction. Good for you! He blesses those who listen to His small still voice. Difficult to do when loud music is drowning your ears, but you walked outside to "listen". That took alot of obedience and I am proud of you.

I applaud you and your boyfriend for your stand. You never know who you have impacted. When I read this post, I thought about someone who had told my daughter that they went to a wedding which was held at a church, the reception was held elsewhere. They said that during the reception, they turned on loud music and disco lights and people got up and danced. I think it was not only the way they were dancing that shocked this individual but also who it was as it was people who were children's workers in the church. This person couldn't understand why they saw nothing wrong with it. It's so important what you do and that it be honoring to Christ.

ORIGINAL: tailormade You actually think this is the kind of music and dancing that goes on at Jr. Proms? It does seem to be the case at many of them. I still applaud the OP for standing on their principals and not participating in such. Thasks RC

Well my junior prom was 2 weeks ago. My boyfriend and I were pretty excited and were all dressed up for the occasion. Well we got there and we seen the way people were dancing to the music. I've heard the prom described as a "mini-wedding." A costly ceremony of sexual togetherness, that costs many young people their virtue. My kids stayed out of the meat market, the dating scene, until they were in college. No point in cultivating adhesions of the soul until you are actually in a position to marry. My daughter married after her sophomore year, to an amazing young man who'd just graduated -- also 20 years old. It took her an additional year to finish her BA (English and Linguistics) after her husband got drafted to play in the big leagues -- Adobe -- on the other coast. She turned down a full-ride scholarship to the doctoral program at UNC-Chapel Hill a few weeks ago, and is now in the MA program at Santa Cruz.

I'd also say it depends on where you live. I went to a very country-fied school so we had a lot of country music and most of the "bump n' grind" was booed at. I missed my junior prom but went to my senior. It was fun and a bunch of us hung out together through the whole thing and all of the after prom activities and all was well when I got home at 8 the next morning.

Hmm interesting...my high school's prom (from what I heard) was tasteful and anything that looked like it was going to become lewd was quickly stopped by the myriad of chaperones and teachers there....lol. I for one, wished that I had gone to my high school's prom. Just MHO.

I never went to my Prom but it had nothing to do with me being a Christan. Because I had not fond God yet. I did not have a date. So, I have a questions: Did you have to stay at Prom to go to after prom? Wouldn't the same influences from Prom be at after prom? Because it seems to me you spent 2 1/2 hours out in the cold when you could have somewhere else.

Wouldn't it be better if families got together for formal occasions rather than children leaving their families for a night of independant interaction with someone of the opposite sex who is not a part of their family? Can anyone say temptation? Good job given the circumstances, but we need to be careful of the circumstances we put ourselves in.
