Welcome to summer!

What are your plans? Are you taking time off, or schooling right through? Catching some sun or staying in the air conditioning?

There's ice cold watermelon and lemonade on the table - help yourself and chat away!

PrincessDonna -> RE: It's Summertime - June Chat! (6/1/2009 9:03:34 AM)

We're finishing up school. He'll be done with history this week, and English and spelling next week. He'll keep going with reading and science until they're done. We're also waiting for standardized tests to come. I ordered them, but have to wait for others to be done with them, so I have no idea when we'll get them.

The 24th is the zoo member's picnic, and also Nick's last day of school. The 26th is a homeschool trip to a water/theme park. I think I'm taking Noah, Nick, and Hannah. And Esther, of course. Have to find someone to take Levi.

Hard to believe it's June already! We are taking time off! My plan was to take 2 months off & start back up at the beginning of August. But now, we are thinking of going on a house hunting trip in August & I'm thinking we may need to wait to start back up after that (unless it's in late August, then we may try to get a few things done beforehand). I have LOTS of things I want to get done while we're taking our break! First off is going through the house & cleaning out for my garage sale this coming weekend!

I really need that ice cold watermelon & lemonade! It's been downright HOT here already!

ETA - praying for Melissa to have a pain free day today and that the doctor will figure out how to keep it that way!

We will be homeschooling through the summer in the subjects that Dd is still behind on. It will probably be a little more of a relaxed schedule because summer is full of birthdays, July 4th and summer camp, and a vacation. The local movie theater is also showing free movies on Tues. & Wed. mornings also. I renewed our library card, so a trip to the library will be added to the routine. And the newest part of the routine which will last much longer than one summer is that Ds will be starting to receive "services" for his autism.

It's starting to sound like most of our summer will be spent in the car driving from place to place to place.

PrincessDonna -> RE: It's Summertime - June Chat! (6/1/2009 11:20:37 AM)

Um. Hannah and Levi are playing house. Hannah is calling Levi "my honey" and keeps having babies. All while Levi screams, "I not your honey!" LOL

We will be doing school through a bunch of the summer, as we have taken some time off due to the move, etc. But we will be taking some time off for fun, too!

My niece is graduating from high school in June, and my family is coming for a big party in a couple of weeks. We will have a bunch of family staying with us, which will be fun! It is nice to be in a home with space for company.

his_chosen -> RE: It's Summertime - June Chat! (6/1/2009 11:34:58 AM)

We've been done with school for about a month. We very quickly adjusted to summer!!!

I met with a sports nutritionist last week. Um, my diet, well, stinks... So we're totally revamping things. I am soooooooooooooo glad we're on summer break and I have more time! I can get back from my morning workout and I actually have TIME to figure out breakfast. Usually, it's grab something quick as I get school started. He wanted me to make gradual changes over the month, then we'll meet again. Sounds perfect.

Ds1 did a bicycle race yesterday. He finished the 70miles in 3:27. His goal was sub-4, so he SMASHED that goal!!! He finished 28/35. Yah, near the bottom, but he's a 16yo kid racing against some pretty good riders.

Dh is on partial disability for his back. I'm pretty upset that he's let things get this bad. Most of the problem is he's obese and not willing to do anything about it. It was the chiro who put him on disability. I asked if he planned to see a MD. He said he would it things didn't get better. Not much more I can say, but I am very upset about the whole thing. I guess worst is that in the "weight" thread in Marriage, noone could understand this side of things. It was all about we shouldn't judge. Easy to say if your spouse isn't in chronic pain and a real bear to live with, all of which could be prevented.

Brandy -> RE: It's Summertime - June Chat! (6/1/2009 12:33:43 PM)

His, I can't go into threads like that.

It's an enabling cycle - threads like that. I understand you don't want to put the person down and make them feel horrible but there comes a time when personal responsibility has to happen and nothing changes. Seriously, if the person is in chronic pain due to their weight and will not change, what are you supposed to do? Sit there and pat their hand?

betterisoneday -> RE: It's Summertime - June Chat! (6/1/2009 2:44:25 PM)

We're "doing lessons" (mostly life stuff: math by laundry & dishes, reading, etc) through the summer, but I'll only be recording probably 2 or 3 days a week. I need to find evening classes for myself also, so will unfortunately be spending time in places with the ac turned too low. [sm=icon_smile_cold.gif]

2jsmom -> RE: It's Summertime - June Chat! (6/1/2009 2:48:41 PM)

We're nearly done with school. Joe will be preparing to take the Compass test, but that's all he has left.

I'm with ya there. Why does everyone have their ac set on frostbite? [&:]

We live in Western Washington. It is rare for a residence to have air conditioning.

We are taking summer break from school, but the kids will have some "homework" to keep fresh. We are using this summer to get our house in order. There will be reorganizing and painting, plus the children will be receiving more chores and I will be doing less housework, so I can concentrate on educating the children and myself. I plan to begin working towards my college degree this year in preparation for when the children don't need me as much. I will need to go back to work asap, as living on dh's salary has been difficult and we do not have any retirement plans. Plus, I need the ability to support myself with a decent wage if anything should happen to my dh. I hope he lives a long and healthy life, but, like His' husband, my husband has not been taking proper care of his temple and I do think it's prudent for me to be prepared should the unthinkable happen.

Just kidding. I couldn't resist. giggle

I want to be a writer, possibly a speaker to women and possibly to tutor. I have lots of ideas. I also like the idea of College Plus, but thought I may start a company that does the same thing only for adults who want to finish a degree.

shadowspring -> RE: It's Summertime - June Chat! (6/1/2009 7:22:08 PM)

I am going to keep prodding my son along in Algebra II and we are about to finish up Spanish III for the year.

My big goal is to hit the gym every morning. We've been walking every morning, but it's already getting too hot and sweaty for me!

Sorry no one gets your dilemma, his. [:(] I think it would be very frustrating to be in your shoes. Good thing one parent is taking care of herself, huh?

My dh isn't obese, but he has a really hard time eating right, taking his cholesterol meds, etc. He can't admit he is not the perfect physical specimen because his family attached a lot of shame to people who were sick. So to avoid the shame, you just don't admit your sick.

He even refused to go to the emergency room when he broke his leg! I kid you not! He went home and took some Tylenol to wait and see if it was better in the morning. (It wasn't.)

Denial is a strange animal!

amybreit -> RE: It's Summertime - June Chat! (6/1/2009 9:05:54 PM)

Wow shadow - my dh has had that denying being sick thing! His dad was like that too. In fact, he waited so long to go to the doctor for the stomach pains he was having that it was stage 4 colon cancer & inoperable. That really woke my dh up to needing to go to the doctor & get looked at when something hurts or doesn't feel right. I really think he would've waited years to get his back looked at if it hadn't been for his experience with his dad. He ended up needing surgery! I'm so glad he has learned that lesson (just wish it hadn't taken such a drastic event as FIL's death to wake him up, KWIM?)

[sm=wave.gif] OOOO - I want to join the rich, sexy hs moms club too![sm=wave.gif] LOL!![:D]

Dd & I went out & did some shopping & ate at soupersalad! She got to spend her gift cards from her birthday party! We got groceries for the week & some other stuff we needed too! Now, I need to do budget & pay bills. YIPEE![8D]
