Not since I was a teen . . . If I have to "sneak" it, I probably shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

I don't always sneak but sometimes I do and have never once been caught either.

Not necessarily sneak, but sometimes bring in candy that they don't sell at the theatre. There's a candy store next door to the theatre and sometimes the boys will get Jelly Belly's or rootbeer gummies; things not sold there.

Not in a long time; my wife likes the pop corn, neither of us eat much in the way of candy & soda, and neither of us are usually wearing something that would conceal a large cntainer anyways. Factoring in all that and the hassle of having to stop at another store, as well as the fact that I can count on one hand the number of times a year we go to the movies, splitting a $4 bottle of water isn't such a big deal. -Dan.

If I buy anything at a theater, it will be a pop. Those are kinda hard to sneak in with. If I come in with candy of my own, it will be when I don't see a movie with my wife. She has a conscience, so she is bothered by doing things like that. So out of deference to her, I won't do it when she is around. But if I go see a movie myself, it is fair game if I want something in particular. The theaters shouldn't charge 5 times what something is worth...

The theaters shouldn't charge 5 times what something is worth... FYI: My BIL runs a movie theatre and has since we were in high school. Most of the ticket price goes to the movie company, actors and distributors. The theatre pays its overhead ie employees, buildings, etc with the consession receipts. That is just how it is in the industry. Yes, the profit margin is high but they are getting, if I remember right, less than a dollar per ticket. That being said, I always purchase something at the concession stand: soda or popcorn, etc. I usually buy candy at Walgreens at $1.09 each because the popcorn/soda combo 2 lg drinks and a lg popcorn cost $21.50. Add in the tickets and we spend around $50.00 to see a movie. I do not hide the candy because my BIL once told me that he would never allow his employees to stop guests for bringing stuff in. Our local theatre, did post a sign saying no outside food for a while because people were bringing in whole pizza's and bags of food from Moe's and it was noisy and distracting during the movie.

Yes, I am guilty. I remember one time my sister and I went with a friend of ours and her dad and she ended spilling a TON of Skittles in the theater! It was great.

When I was young and in middle and high school I did so....I was poor and didn't want/couldn't afford to pay like $10,000 for a popcorn and soda , so I'd sneak in my own candies and drinks in a jacket. I saw a family actually have take-out Chinese food with like rice, beef....egg rolls, etc. They busted it out of a plastic bag and purse the mom was carrying and I couldn't believe my eyes. People near them were commenting about it and saying they wish they had some of that food too, LOL. I've seen people with mirco-wave popcorn and their own sodas......Seems like people can sneak anything in....security is kind of non-existent on the issue, because you can just bring in whatever in a jacket or purse. I do think it's wrong, however, to break these rules and haven't done it in years now that I'm an adult and try to live by Christian rules. It's just a respect issue and also because theatres could potentially lose money from patrons not buying stuff from concessions....plus they may have to clean up after your mess when you didn't even buy their food....I don't think it's the worst offense in the world, but it's still against their rules and for that reason, alone, we ought to obey it.

When we go the boys get little water cups and pour seasoning in them for their popcorn. We buy the big bottomless bucket of popcorn and I give the boys ziploc bags so they can season them. Thing 2 uses carmel seasoning and Thing 1 uses garlic parmesan. We went with a bunch of friends and one of the dad's saw Thing 1's cup sitting in the cup holder. Thinking it was empty, he turned it upside down and put it on top of his own cup. Powdered garlic parmesan cheese spilled everywhere...the floor, the soda, the chairs...it was hilarious. Then it stunk so bad that Thing 1 and the other boys he was sitting with had to move to a different row. And this was one of only many mishaps that evening. It was hilarious. *back on topic* I do try to buy popcorn and soda when I go though. Only occasionally will I bring juice packs for the boys.

We usually buy candies from the Walgreens and have those little snack bags filled with different candies. We do buy popcorn and pop...they have the kiddie size. There's also a theater here where you buy a bucket of popcorn for 10 bucks and that bucket is good for 6 months. Just bring the bucket in and they'll refill it for free- a couple of refills per visit. They also have free refills on pop....I mean soda.

Sneak? Nope. I just waltz right in with it in my hand. Ain't no law against it, so why sneak?

Sometimes I sneak in candy. Does it bother me? No. I went to see Terminator Salvation (the matinee) and wanted small popcorn and small drink. Had I got that it would have cost close to $11.00 which was more than the ticket to get in. Theater owners should not get mad at patrons for sneaking in candy. This cost would have been rediculous.

First, there are economic business reasons why candy/popcorn/sodas DO cost so much at theatres. First, if they didn't charge what they charge, the theatres would not be able to stay in business. They only earn a fraction of "box office" receipts the first few weeks a movie has been released (which is why you see the "no passes/no coupons" on new releases)......the "share" of the box office take improves for the theatre owner improves slightly ONLY once a film runs beyond 3-4 weeks. In the end, theatre owners really only make "good money" with the "blockbuster" hits. And, lose money on the "duds" and "so-so" movies....... The way to recoup some of their 'costs' is concessions. And, it's obvious, enough people DO pay the prices as listed.....and, if not, then prices would have to go down (simple economics).....many movie theatres around here DO offer a "FREE REFILL" on large drinks and large popcorns. (which, is a catch 22), as how many people will get up in the middle of a movie for a refill? to give you an idea of how "skewed" the system is against theatre owners....Cinemark theatres recently reported annual revenues of 1.77 BILLION....but, even that translated into a "loss" in the end. Running a movie theatre is a very expensive business. What do we do? As for LARGE popcorns and refills? My wife takes large ziploc baggies for the kids....and distributes the popcorn evenly (of course) in the lobby before going in....and then, gets the refill (which is what her and I eat)....and do all that BEFORE even going into the theater... we DO "smuggle in" drinks...as we DO buy the popcorn! (we just pick up 20oz bottles of soda from a convenience store for $1.29 or so on the way), and use one of my wife's BIG purses! MANY theatres here have gotten VERY VERY smart. They offer "movie camp"-type showings of "kid friendly" films during the summer on certain days.....(every tuesday at 10:30am), for instance. Admission is usually FREE, or, at some places $1.00 or so. Good for them....as the "free" showings mean NO revenue sharing at the box office, but they know darn well, people are going to FLOCK to the concession stand (especially since they can justify that $7 popcorn, since they DID get in for FREE).....and, that's a huge "profit center" for the theater.... And, gives the kids a good look at all the "upcoming attractions".....which, will bring them back for more!

We do the ziploc thing too, but I always get our seats first. This also gives the boys opportunity to pick their own flavours too. To get two large refillable sodas and a large refillable popcorn is $20. Movies are not cheap excursions but they are a treat.

I didn't used to. But the theater near me now requires you to buy a large popcorn/pop to get refills. (They're like 5 bucks each). A friend of mine used to work there and said "There is no sign denying you outside food or drink. We can't kick you out for it." So now I take it in :D

I used to when I was a teenager. Now, if I bring anything in, I carry it in plain view so they can contest it if they want to. That said, I rarely bring food in. I almost always bring my refillable water bottle, and nobody's ever said anything. DH and I will occasionally buy food (as in a meal) across the street and bring it in, but that particular theatre only sells snacks and openly tells customers that they have agreed to allow people in with food from the local take-out places When I was pregnant I would bring some sort of healthy snack with me (eg an apple or granola bar); the popcorn is too high in sodium and everything else is too high in sugar. Try telling a pregnant woman to go two or more hours without healthy food. If I could buy either the apple or the granola bar (or anything else that's remotely healthy) at the theatre, I would.

I almost always take snacks in. This is why we love the drive-in - we usually take dinner with us and they don't care at all.
