I am new to the forums...HI!

I am 40 years old and finally know what I want to do with my life, however, I am wondering which is the better school: Liberty University or Regent University.

I am wanting to get a bachelors degree in christian ministries and then possibly go for my masters in theology. I am interested in these schools because of the opportunity to receive my degrees online. I just don't know which school to go with.

Congrats on figuring out what you want to do when you grow up! I'm older and still trying to get there.

Difficult to answer your question though. I think it depends a lot on your background and what you are looking for. For example, do you have a very conservative orientation and looking for a new perspective and exposure to new ideas? If so, I might say Regent.

Personally, I have a strong independent streak and am fairly moderate by nature so I would find Liberty quite stifling. I've known people from both schools and find the Regent grass and staff to have a bit broader perspective.

Liberty Online isn't nearly as stifling as being on campus. Online we have mostly adult students (i.e. non-traditional) and we're responsible for our own learning. There are guidelines, but a person doesn't even have to be a Christian in order to take the classes online. That said, Liberty is wonderful and I've had a very challenging learning experience.

Do check out the programs you're interested in, though. Even though the class says it's online, there are a few programs that may require you to take an on-campus class in Lynchburg. It's a wonderful campus and I'm getting ready to take my third (and maybe not final) class on campus and am looking forward to it!

I would think that Regent might be a better fit for an older student coming back to school?

Having said that, my older daughter attends Liberty and loves it, so I would recommend it for younger adults. I think resident students (vs. distance learning) would get more of the "traditional college experience" there with the football team and the dorms, etc. There definitely is a spiritual emphasis to the campus life there, but I don't necessarily think it's all THAT stifling (but then again, I have a niece that...not on my recommendation, mind you...attended Bob Jones, so Liberty looks like a bastion of liberality in comparison).
