I have been told that we should study the Psalms and should meditate on them.
So if you don't mind I thought I would place here every day one Psalm starting with psalm 1 until we have finished the whole book of Psalms..... Love Jane

Psalm 1

Psa 1:1 Blessed [is] the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

Psa 1:2 But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.

Psa 1:3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

Psa 1:4 The ungodly [are] not so, But [are] like the chaff which the wind drives away.

Psa 1:5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

Psa 1:6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

If anyone would like to add other version of these psalms go a head
love Jane

Psalm 2

Psa 2:1 Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing?

Psa 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, [saying],

Psa 2:3 "Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us."

Psa 2:4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The LORD shall hold them in derision.

Psa 2:5 Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure:

Psa 2:6 "Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion."

Psa 2:7 "I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, 'You [are] My Son, Today I have begotten You.

Psa 2:8 Ask of Me, and I will give [You] The nations [for] Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth [for] Your possession.

Psa 2:9 You shall break [fn] them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.' "

Psa 2:10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth.

Psa 2:11 Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling.

Psa 2:12 Kiss the Son, [fn] lest He be angry, And you perish [in] the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed [are] all those who put their trust in Him.

Psalm 3

Psa 3:1 A Psalm of David when he fled from Absalom his son. LORD, how they have increased who trouble me! Many [are] they who rise up against me.

Psa 3:2 Many [are] they who say of me, "[There is] no help for him in God." Selah

Psa 3:3 But You, O LORD, [are] a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.

Psa 3:4 I cried to the LORD with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill. Selah

Psa 3:5 I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustained me.

Psa 3:6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set [themselves] against me all around.

Psa 3:7 Arise, O LORD; Save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.

Psa 3:8 Salvation [belongs] to the LORD. Your blessing [is] upon Your people. Selah

I turned to the different Psalms when I was at a dark place in my life. I try now to make it a part of my everyday prayer life. There is alot of wisdom, I have learned so much by studying out of them. Thanks for sharing.

Psa 3:5 I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustained me

The current version I use is also the NKJV. My first version was the New Living Translation (NLT) and this verse was very special to me...

Psalm 3:5 NLT
I lay down and slept.
I woke up in safety,
for the LORD was watching over me.

Thanks, Jane, for starting this thread!

Psalm 4

Psa 4:1 To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in [my] distress; Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

Psa 4:2 How long, O you sons of men, [Will you turn] my glory to shame? [How long] will you love worthlessness [And] seek falsehood? Selah

Psa 4:3 But know that the LORD has set apart [fn] for Himself him who is godly; The LORD will hear when I call to Him.

Psa 4:4 Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah

Psa 4:5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And put your trust in the LORD.

Psa 4:6 [There are] many who say, "Who will show us [any] good?" LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.

Psa 4:7 You have put gladness in my heart, More than in the season that their grain and wine increased.

Psa 4:8 I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

I could be wrong, but I think this might be a copyright violation.
From the NJKV copyright:
quote:

Printed, Visual and Electronic Uses:
Up to 1,000 verses (inclusive) from assorted books of the New King James Version® (NKJV™) may be quoted in printed (e.g., book, brochure, magazine, newsletter, lesson outline), visual (e.g., film, videotape), and electronic forms (e.g., computer diskette, CD-ROM, on-line) without written permission, as long as the verses quoted do not amount to 50% of a complete book of the Bible and do not make up 50% or more of the total text of the work in which they are quoted.

The KJV is public domain (except in the UK, but we won't get in to that), so you may use that.

Meditate on this Psalm with me..... This says to me, the Lord will hear when I call to Him. That alone should cease any doubt I may have as to whether or not God is listening! The bible says to mediate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Isn't this the way we should all drift off to sleep at the end of the day???? Verse 8 says: I will both lie down in peace and sleep, For YOU alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. This tells me I have nothing to fear! As a christian, I can be assured, without a doubt that I am in His arms, safe and secure with nothing to fear. Praise God for he hears me and protects me! Oh yeah, we have his Word on it!

There is also the World English Bible (WEB) and the accompanying Hebrew Names Version (HNV). Both are completely free to use. From their website www.ebible.org

The World English Bible (WEB) is a Public Domain (no copyright) Modern English translation of the Holy Bible. That means that you may freely copy it in any form, including electronic and print formats. The World English Bible is based on the American Standard Version of the Holy Bible first published in 1901

You can download e-sword modules of both bibles from that site, or formated (RTF) or unformated (txt) files for each book.

I use NIV. It's good to see that I wasn't the only one with the idea of going through a Psalm every day. I've been doing that on my blog for the past month: Sidewalk Diving There's the link to my blog. I try to update once every two days.

Psalm 5

Psa 5:1 To the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.

Psa 5:2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.

Psa 5:3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct [my prayer] unto thee, and will look up.

Psa 5:4 For thou [art] not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.

Psa 5:5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

Psa 5:6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

Psa 5:7 But as for me, I will come [into] thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: [and] in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

Psa 5:8 Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

Psa 5:9 For [there is] no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part [is] very wickedness; their throat [is] an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.

Psa 5:10 Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.

Psa 5:11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

Psa 5:12 For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as [with] a shield.

Psalm 6

1O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

2Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.

3My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long?

4Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake.

5For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?

6I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.

7Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.

8Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.

9The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.

10Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.

Psalm 6 is one of my many favorite! It is a prayer of David for God's mercy. David is distraught and turns to the One he knows can deliver him. In fact, he says his soul is greatly troubled. I have felt that way quite a few times. Most of us here have at one time or another. In fact, I know of a few here in this forum that feel right now as distraught as David felt. It is not a good feeling. He is tired, so much so that he seems to be having a problem sleeping. He spends his night crying out to the Father. But read further, he is also confident (verse 8) that the Lord heard the voice of his weeping! We can have that same confidense today because God has never changed. He hears our cries, He sees our tears, He delivers us from our circumstances. He can even cause our enemies to be ashamed! God, I thank you for these words you spoke through the heart of David so we could have them and believe in You as our Deliverer who grants us mercy even though we don't always deserve it!

Psalm 7

1O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:

2Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

3O LORD my God, If I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;

4If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)

5Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.

6Arise, O LORD, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded.

7So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high.

8The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me.

9Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.

10My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.

11God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

12If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.

13He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.

14Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.

15He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.

16His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.

17I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.

This is a great idea! May be a Psalm a week would have been enough. This way everybody could meditate this Psalm during the whole week. Comments, feeling and thoughts about that Psalm could then be shared all week for the benefit of all. Just a thought. God bless you….

Psalm 8

1O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

2Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

3When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

4What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

5For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

6Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

7All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

8The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

9O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

Psalm 8:2
2Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

Matthew 21:15 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" they were indignant 16 and said to Him, "Do You hear what these are saying?" And Jesus said to them, "Yes. Have you never read, "Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise'?"
