They are not leadership offices. They are postions of servitude. And the only authority they have is spreading the word of God..The gospel. Other than that they have none accept what God gives them.
So what do you do with this scripture:?

Heb 13:17 Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you.

This is clearly speaking to congregants about congregational leaders. OBEY THEM.

See, this is the problem I have with it. they are NOT authority as the world says only as God says. By putting worldy definition to them, it causes people in those postions to get puffed up instead of being humble servants like Christ says to be.
They are to be of service to the Saints not lifted up over them.
I agree, to a point. Jesus warned his disciples to not lord it over their followers "as the gentiles do," but to serve with Himself as example.

Just because some (or maybe most) congregational leaders act like gentiles is no reason to ditch something set up in scripture.

Again, "they have no leadership EXCEPT what GOD gives them."
I guess you you missed where I said this Dave. None have anything except what God gives and allows. By the way, to lead is to serve. And leadership in this sense to me means those who know more of God's word and are stronger in faith. BUT, we are called to grow and be able to stand on our own. Then we become "leaders" in the faith also.

No - I got that. I think you and I have very different ideas as to how much authority God gives them.

So you are saying that everyone must "watch over the souls" and "give an account" for everyone else?

Aren't we our brother and sister's keepers?
Yes, we are.
We are all called to be a witness for God. To live for him. And obey his word, right? Yes we are. Each one will give an account to their work, right? yes.
All the teachers and such in the body of Christ are suppose to make disciples for God and send us out to witness for God. God does not intend for us to be up under a Pastor constantly. God expects us to be able to put on his armor and fight along side the Pastor and Teacher, etc. Gd expects us to be able to stand on our own not be tossed to and fro, but firm.
So, really, we do all give an account for each other.
