Just read a little more of the posts and found out more. While the GED test is hard, I got mine when I was 18, it is definitely important to have. The best things in life are the hardest to retain. Prove your mom wrong. Like I said, check out local community colleges for the classes for the GED. If they don't have any, go to your local library and pick up the study book which they'll most likely have. If your library doesn't have the book, do an interlibrary loan where your library borrows it from another. Having your GED will open up so many options for you. Another thing, pray about your situation. God can give you the ability to do ANYTHING. Pray and seek Him first. Everything else will fall into place. Read Jeremiah 29:11. If you don't have a bible handy, I'll post it here. Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." God has the direction for your life in His hands. He'll unveil it to you when you seek Him.

I don't even go to the library. jeremiah 29:11 is one of my favoriate verses. On one of the other posts, someone mentioned that most guys want kids, but I'm sure there are guys who don't. As in he can't/ doesn't like kids.

Life is pretty depressing. It doesnt help to be lied to and manipulated at every corner by someone or some institution.

Free books equal free learning. You say you have a Learning Disabilty. So do I. So do these people: Albert Einstein-Had difficulty with math. Yet he is known for a matimatical theory. Galileo Mozart Wright Brothers-Due to them we can fly. Leonardo da Vinci Cher Bruce Jenner Tom Cruise Charles Schwab Henry Winkler Danny Glover Walt Disney-He was told that he was uncreative. John Lennon Greg Louganis Winston Churchill Henry Ford Stephen Hawkings Jules Verne Alexander Graham Bell Woodrow Wilson Hans Christian Anderson Nelson Rockefeller Thomas Edison-Where would we be with out his many inventions? Gen. George Patton Agatha Christie John F. Kennedy Whoopi Goldberg Rodin Thomas Thoreau David H. Murdock Dustin Hoffman Pete Rose Russell White Jason Kidd Russell Varian Robin Williams Louis Pasteur Werner von Braun Dwight D. Eisenhower Robert Kennedy Luci Baines Johnson Nugent George Bush's children Prince Charles Gen. Westmoreland Eddie Rickenbacker Gregory Boyington Harry Belafonte F. Scott Fitzgerald Mariel Hemingway Steve McQueen George C. Scott Tom Smothers Suzanne Somers Lindsay Wagner George Bernard Shaw Beethoven Carl Lewis Jackie Stewart "Magic" Johnson Weyerhauser family Wrigley John Corcoran Sylvester Stallone List found at:http://www.oneaddplace.com/famous.htm You see here is the thing about Learning Disabilties...They really Learning Differences. Powerchick your brain works differently. Unfortunately the traditional learning enviroment does not work well for people with Learning Differences. Does it mean we can't do? Nope. The list above proves that. Will we have to work harder? Yes. I work at least as twice as hard at a lot of things. Will it take us longer? It might. The degree that I am earning in Early Childhood Education is supposed to take two years. I am taking four because I only take two or three classes at a time instead of four. And I get all the help. If I need longer time to take a test I can. If I need someone to type and edit my papers. I can. Finally teaching is not something that I would ever do. I was born in the mid seventies right at the begining of when people were learning wahat Learning Disabilities were. I was rejected by teachers. I was cast aside. My peers called me stupid. And the teachers did not do anything about it. My high school Geometry teacher confirmed my stupidity when she called me stupid in front of the whole class. However I am not stupid not even close. I can do anything I set my mind to. I knwo what I want to do and I am setting my mind to do it.

hey Powerchick. I just want to reaffirm that everyone here just wants to love you and help you thru this. Dont take anything anyone says as mean or offending, but some of these things really do need to be said in a stern way and loving way. I cant say too much. I just work at a warehouse thru a temp. agency. and im 21 year old dude by the way, and i also live in a small backcountry town. But life, as i have also learned thru time, requires alot of work. What i mean is i used to think i could just "wait on God"or "lean on God cuz he wants me to prosper". But then i read bible verses that say "if a person doesnt work, they dont eat". and i know the economy sucks !! it really does. im trying to find a new job and well, i cant! but what that verse is basically saying is, if you dont try and work things out, they wont. Again, you may be trying and trying to work out your situation and maybe it just NOT GOING ANYWHERE. and it gets depressing. it gets hard. but what im saying to you is, that if your approach isnt working or getting things done, you must go back to the drawing board, and try and think of new ways to get your goals done. like you live in a small town.. so if you have a library, walk there ! no matter how far... if you really want this GED you will find a way. make friends with someone who drives. lovingly rebuke your mom for her choice to not help you. and i know parents are stubborn, but so are us children ! all u can do it pray, and work your hardest every single day untill the tide turns, and you get your GED, find a job, and show your parents you can do this, but more importantly, show YOURSELF you can do this, and show GOD that you can do this, thru his help, but by the sweat of your own work. depend on God for everything, but stand still for nothing. i hope things start to work out for you in due time. God bless you powerchick for real.

Don't feel badly. I just graduated in May with a BS in biology and I can't find a job. I thought maybe it was me, but I think it's the economy and fact that everyone is competing for the same jobs. After five years of working on the degree, at a hard university that costs $20,000/yr and not being able to find a job, I know what depression is. Lol. But really, it's hard, especially when on top of that you have other things in life that are going terribly.

ORIGINAL: Powerchick turns out I am gonna get my GED, just not sure when. Powerchick, I'm old enough to be your grandparent. So, I know how difficult it is for parents to see their child be hurt. I'm sure that your mom hated to see your disappointment when you failed to pass your earlier tests and she is just trying to protect you. She means well. But, conquering life means facing disappointments and rising above them. Saraimay75, gave you the truth. God made you exactly as he planned to make you. You do NOT have a learning disability. You simply have a different way of learning. Schools tend to teach one way. And, that was not the way your mind was made to learn. But, you write very well. And, it's interesting to read what you have to say. And, that is why WE KNOW that you can learn if you find the right method for you. Lord, we sense Powerchick's love for you and your love for her. We pray that you will not only bring her into the very center of Your Will for her work; but, for her learning and growth. May she find the right method of learning that unlocks the beauty, power and uniqueness of her brain that she might Glorify you with all her being. We pray it in the name of her creator and her Savioir, Jesus Christ.

You can do it powerchick. What kind of work do you envision yourself doing as a missionary? Maybe you can go to a trade school where you can learn what you really want to learn instead of going to a university. They don't have trade schools out there for nothing you know.
