So far no suprises in Lions camp. Losing to the Rams last week means we may only win 3-4 games. They should have beat the Rams!

Randy is going to end up soon paying more to coaches office people who were canned for incompetence than good teams like the Colts, Steelers, Patriots have on their payrolls actually working.

Is that why the Browns administrative office is equipped with a revolving door and ejection seats?

Randy spends more time across the pond with Aston Villa than he does with the Browns. Him and his dad Al never seemed to understand the NFL and its inner workings and they had a habit of hiring people with a reputation and giving them 100% free reign. As Randy put it he wasn't going to be a "meddling" owner. So they ended up with Carmen Policy and Dwight Clark since they were the big names from San Fran. Then came Butch Davis the big college dictator who had the credentials. Randy inherited the team during the first half of Davis. When Davis was gone he hired a corporate headhunter to find a GM and let the GM hire Romeo. After that he did a couple of interviews and was sold on Mangini and brought in Kokinis to be the GM.

Randy's problem is he is too hands off and pretty much just ignores the team. There are times when an owner needs to get involved and times to stand back. He should have made Davis take Ben over Winslow in '04. He should have forced Savage to dump DA and go with Quinn even after the Pro Bowl '07 season. Dan Rooney understood this completely. The only times in recent years he got really directly involved was in '07 when there was the threat of a mutiny over the Tomlin hiring when he spent a good chunk of time on the sidelines.

It shows up mainly when they try and hire. I know I hated the Tomlin hire for over a year until last year when we had the schedule from H E Double Hockey Sticks, the injuries, and half way through the year we were still contending. Tomlin though was a protege of Tony Dungy's who was a protege of Chuck Noll's. Tomlin and Dick Lebeau also knew each other well from when Tomlin helped coach the Bearcats defense when Lebeau was in Cinncy. So he didn't come out of the proverbial "scrap heap" as they say the Steelers' management knew quite a bit about him. I believe that teams like the Colts, the Raven, the Patriots could make a hire like that. Randy will never make a hire like that because he isn't involved with the league like the previous teams.

It's no coincidence that Art Rooney and Ozzie Newsome hired outstanding young coaches over the last 3 years and the Browns are on their way to their third in 4 years. It's really a shame though Mapachito because I've been around Browns fans my whole life and they are some great fans when you keep them away from the extra large milk bones and batteries.

The fans are the stars in Cleveland IMO.

Browns fans have been fiercely loyal to their team through all these lean years with their team being considered the easy W for others. As a Steelers fan in LA I even run across this loyalty by Cleveland or Ohio transplants even here due to the rivalry.

They are proud to be Browns fans even if they are not proud of the way the team is managed and is playing at the moment. I respect them a great deal because they (and you) are the true wealth of that team. Randy should count himself blessed to have such fans which keep his pockets full so he can enjoy his other "more important" things in his life.

I was listening to the Browns-Bears debacle, and (Browns announcer)Jim Donavan, mentioned that Randy Lerner, was in attendance- like that came as a supirse to him. Of course the firings happened afterward(Mangini's assistant was also canned). Hopefully, he's had his eyes opened.

Dad Al Lerner was friends with Pats owner Kraft, and the Eagles owner, who's name escapes me. Unfortunatley, their success did not rub off, on him.

Well, well, well. Look who's sitting on top (for now) of the AFC North - my Cincinnati Bengals! They're 6-2 after beating the Ravens today, and they are starting to turn the heads of a few people. It's such a far cry from years past!! I'm sure loving the way that the defense is playing; already they've got more sacks - in 8 games - than they had all of last season. Man! It feels so good to be proud to be a Bengals fan!

The Cowboys are up 7-0 on the Eagles, but they're not playing on all cylinders right now. They'd better get it in gear!

The Colts snuck by the Texans by the skin of their teeth - again. They are going to get bit by somebody soon if they don't start playing better, and the same thing goes for the Saints. They're both 8-0, but not by much. I love the fact that the Chargers beat the Giants in the "Draft Pick Bowl" game . . . aw, lets face it, I just love it that the Giants got beat!!

Duane, you have every reason to gloat. They are playing very well and are surprising everyone. Good thing my Steelers only play them one more time and it's at home.

Browns fans rejoice! Your team didn't lose! Oh yeah. It was a bye week.

Do you think the Pats or the Colts will win next week? IOW, will the Colts remain undefeated? The Colts defense has allowed the fewest points per game but the Pats are almost as equally as stingy at the #3 spot.

The Saints had an ugly win but Drew Brees is still very impressive. 39 TD's for the Saints. The next closest team has only 29 (Favre's Vikings). Good thing they are so high scoring though, their defense is tied for 17th in points allowed.

It has definitely been an interesting year in football!

First half of last night's game was not pretty. The Steelers though shut the Steel curtain on Orton in the second half. Denver does look like a different team though and I am sure they are not missing crybaby Cutler.

How about Mendenhall! The man is turning out to be taking the reins from Parker.

What do you mean? The Browns were getting 16 points against the Bye. I took the Bye and won.

We needed that. Wow if Mendenhall is a bust that '08 draft class will go down as one of our worst since the '80s.

I keep teasing the people I work with telling them when Randy goes over to watch Aston Villa he needs to stop at Dublin for a dinner date with Dan Rooney and ask him how to run a football team.

Here are some of my thoughts on the Browns of late:

While Randy has said and succeeded at not being a meddlesome owner and keeping his hands off (unlike Al Davis, Dan Snyder, etc) his distant attitude has been as detrimental to the team as if he had meddled. Him and his dad know/knew nothing of running a NFL team and this was evident in all of the big name hirings- Policy/Clark, Butch Davis, Savage/Crennel and how he arrived at Mangini is a mystery though I'll eat my humble pie and say I was wrong about that one.

Randy isn't a bad guy he does show some patience. He stuck with Davis long enough for us to realize he wasn't the answer and the same thing with Savage and Crennel. There is a time though when an owner needs to put his foot down- Bud Adams telling Fischer to play Young was one of those times. The Titans season is lost so when exactly are you going to find out if Young is your QB? Collins wasn't the answer to anything there. I applauded Bud for taking that step, it was the right one.

Randy should have intervened in the 2004 draft - everyone and I mean everyone knew there were 3 potential franchise QB's in that draft. Winslow was an effort to make Davis' job more secure and had nothing to do with the long term health of that franchise. Randy wasn't going to can him on a whim so take whichever of the 3 (Ben who we all know can run around like a chicken with his head cut off when his line is playing lousy and make big plays) drops to you. The next time he should have intervened was after DA's breakout year. They should have did with him what San Diego did with Brees and just parted ways. Quinn was supposed to be the answer, well they should have built the team around him then and been done with it. Quinn though has himself to blame also had he made it into camp on time in '07 on time he would have easily beat out DA and Charlie Frye. Isn't it funny though that a cast off Browns offensive coach is in Pittsburgh with 2 Super Bowl Rings?

The one thing I dislike about the current state of the NFL is the "what have you done for me lately?" attitude. It takes time to develop players and coaches and neither get it. I remember in the late '90s when Pittsburgh was mediocre and Bill Cowher and Tom Donahoe were clashing. When Dan intervened one of the reasons he gave for keeping Cowher over Tom was Cowher always took the time to play and develop the rookies and it was clear that the talent wasn't being brought into the team like it needed to. It isn't always about the W's and L's and we have the Lombari's to prove it.

Mapachito- I'm not a Browns fan but I grew up and live outside of the Akron area in Ohio about 40 minutes south of Cleveland. I remember when Pittsburgh Cleveland twice a year was bigger than the Super Bowl around here. Now it's sort of like when Ohio State plays Northwest-East-Wisconcin-Green Bay-Technical College except some people want to get down to the horseshoe to see it just because those are hard tickets to get up here. I've been black and gold my entire football watching part of my life.

I watched some of the first half and that is a different Denver team. They looked much better against us than they did against Baltimore. They shouldn't fret Orton's 3 picks, we do that to QB's that are perceived to be far better than him.

Notice how they are 4-0 with a certain #43 in the line-up?! Too bad you didn't see the second half. Hines Wards TD was done with ballet finesse with him jumping over one tackle to get into the end zone. They finally looked like the Super Bowl Steelers in the second half.

Yes I have. I've also noticed that unlike 2007 we can play without Aaron Smith and Ryan Clark in the line-up. Good job by the replacements.

No, my COLTS haven't been playing their best but a WIN is a WIN! Some how they manage to get a victory. I'd say that that is favor(Coach Caldwell is a Christian like Dungy). I wish that we could recruit another defensive player to replace Bob Sanders because to me, it looks like he is getting paid top dollar to warm the bench. Get rid of the guy for Colt's sake!!! And we need receivers who can actually catch the ball. Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark can't do everything! They're being double-teamed. They need help and these new guys(Collie and Garcon) can't get open quick enough without Peyton getting hurried or sacked or both! Really miss those days of old with Marvin Harrison

Anywho--

I am hoping the Colts will pound Brady into the turf this weekend. My wife's favorite team is the Colts and they are my No. 2 since I've been a Steelers fan since 1973. The Patriots are #2 on my most disliked teams list just behind the Raiders.

Alll riiiiiight, welcome to Colt Country, yeehaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!
okay now that that is out of my system . I live here in Colt country so they are my number 1 team. I was so exuberantly happy when Brady and the bunch lost the superbowl to Eli Manning and the Giants that I almost cried out loud, I was so happy. Especially since that year they were investigated for stealing plays from opposing teams, that still p******me off . To say that I loathe Brady and the bunch is an understatement. They are whiny, cheating, prima donnas whose schedule is always, imo, much too soft with the Bills, Jets, Texans, Titans? Whatever! We had better prepare well and be ready defensively (Freeney, Mathis), and offensively and our front line has got to do a better job of protecting Peyton. He has to have time to throw and those receivers have got to learn how to get open quicker. It shall be an interesting night game. I am praying a littler prayer for my team to be victorious and continue our winning streak.

Take care and God bless

seems kinda funny that after all the smash talk, I end it with saying God Bless huh? Anywho,
GO COLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Brady gets pounded again I hear the competition committee will be forced to ban Defensive Ends, Defensive Tackles, Linebackers, Cornerback, Strong Safeties and Free Safeties.

Maybe he could wear flags? Or they could make it a penalty if any defenseman crosses the OL. We can take encroachment to a whole new level.

Brady is as big a crybaby as Kevin McHale was in his heyday. He'd break a guy's arm or bloody his nose, the refs would call a foul, and he'd say, "Whatta ya mean by that?" Then, if the guy guarding him would breath wrong, McHale would holler, "He fouled me, ref! Call it!" It's getting so that Brady is the same way. And Belicheck is his facilitator.

I guess he has to protect those looks so he can keep dating those models.

I guess no one told him that football is a rough sport?

I agree with Rodney Harrison who told Brady to "take off his skirt."

We used to make derogatory comments about the other team and say, "But I mean it in a Christian way!"

Of course we do,

what the heck is going on with da Bears?

5 picks?

I like Lovie but it seems that there may be some kind of quarterback curse or something!!

This is like the 3rd quarterback in 4 yrs or something like that?

Wow. I don't have the NFL network so I couldn't watch the game last night but oh boy .

Between the Cubs and the Bears that doubles the curse. Maybe the curse is something swept in by the bitter wind off Lake Michigan?

The Bears definitely got the worse of the Orton-Cutler trade as evidenced by the success of the Broncos.

I am hoping my Steelers don't fall victim to the Bengals again although I am sure Duane disagrees with me. (No Witch Doctor song this time OK? )

Senor Ochocinco is lighter in the wallet $20,000 for his $1 "bribe" of an official. He'd have been better off if he had bought a lottery ticket!
