Was it just me or did XL & DBD play Jimmy Fallon a few nights ago? Oh wait...that was Street Sweepere Social Club. My bad! I hope the rest of their songs sound original. The one they played on the show was a total ripoff of the XL & DBD sound...not that they've probably ever heard of the band.

I never heard of all three of the bands you mentioned. I'm severely out of the loop. But how can a band rip off the sound of a band they've never heard of? Maybe the first two bands you mentioned ripped off the one you saw on tv? Or maybe they just came up with similar sounds from listening to the same stuff growing up.

XL & DBD and 2. Street Sweeper Social Club. Of course SSSC didn't rip off XL's sound...I'm just saying they weren't as original as they were made out to be. XL & DBD was arguably the first Christian rapcore band (before POD or EDL), though they were more of a raprock outfit kind of like the Beastie Boys at times. Good stuff but way too far ahead of their time and on the wrong label...R.E.X. I believe it was.

Hmm... I thought they were on Word or something, I didn't remember Brainstorm being around that far back.

Actually, Brainstorm does sound right now that you mention it...and I think it was an off-shoot of Word Records or something.

Both are correct.I still have the tape at home, which has the Brainstorm and Word label on it. The early 90's was a good time for rap-rock, something that eventually went down hill.Anyone remember the tune Anthrax did with Public Enemy? I think that was maybe late 80's.

You're technically right because Brainstorm was distributed by Word when XL & DBD were on Brainstorm (1993). It wasn't until 1995 or so that Brainstorm became distributed through Diamante rather than Word.

There seems to be this very vauge memory of it in the back of my mind. At that time, Bride was into their bluesy, stripped-down rock we witnessed on the "Drop" album. I think most Bride fans heard that album and decided the guys had gone crazy or something because they sort of dropped off the face of the music scene for awhile...never really recovered actually. Personally, I really enjoyed the "Drop" album! Much of the material was released before "Drop" as "The Lost Reels 1, 2, and 3". Their 2001 album "Fistful Of Bees" was supposed to be a return to the "Snakes" era sound but by then the band was so far off my radar, I never even gave it a listen...which I suspect happened with a lot of other people as well. "The Jesus Experience" and "Oddities" albums were...well, just odd. I still like Bride.
