Regardless of my personal opinion of the man and how he lived, I cannot deny he was a brilliant artist, and very gifted.

My favorites of his:

#1 - Man in the Mirror
Wonderful commentary on self-reflection. This song and the accompanying video should be shown to all children in preschool and kindergarten. We can never affect real change in the world until we are first able to look at ourselves and accept what changes we may need to make in our own lives first.

#2 - Black or White
Race does not matter. Race should not matter. When we look at each other, why can't we all see just another human being, instead of the color of our skin or nationality of origin? A human is a human, and if we were all the same, wouldn't it be a litttle more boring?

#3 - Beat It
Besides the fact that it is a great song, and very fun to listen to, the message is good too. There is no need to fight over petty things. Why risk your life just to appear "tough"? Is it really worth it? Sometimes it takes a man to just walk away...

Excellent points!

Smooth Criminal is my favourite and the video is just WONDERFUL.

Thriller is my all time favourite, and video.

The Way You Make Me Feel
Dirty Diana
Beat It
Billie Jean

and oddly enough, You Are Not Alone.

I don't really listen to a lot of the Jackson 5 so I only know a handful of their songs.

I saw a youtube of him on Sullivan, Sullivan said Michael was 10 so it had to be a later song, but I don't remember it at all. It's called Stand. Does anyone remember that?

That's a great song. Sly and the Family Stone recorded it, too.

You know, now that you mention it I do remember it by Sly/Fam Stone. It didn't sound familiar from J5 but the tune rang a bell. Thanks!

(you know, sometimes when I see your handle I "hear" Brando yelling STELLA!

I think I might remember Black and White if it's the song I'm thinking of then I liked it. I can't remember the lyrics so not sure if I have the right song haven't heard it forever. And there was I think one other song and right now I can't remember the name of it or it's lyrics..my mind is a total blank right now darn it!

Black and White is the one with the video where people's faces are morphing into other faces.

(I really think Michael Jackson can't be separated from the video industry. His videos were always far ahead of their time.)

Mine are Beat It and Billie Jean,I put them on my Mp3 player. I also like ABC from his Jackson five days.
I was watching his early videos this weekend, I forgot how good they were.

stella, you are certainly on point. He was ahead of his time. sigh I was listening to one of my downloaded songs, "Never can say goodbye". To be that young holding notes that high was just amazing. And I just thought, "Dang that boy could sang". Not sing, saaannnng. LOL. I just wished that he would've found peace in all his sadness. Perhaps he now has.

No kidding!!! Not only was he the first African American on MTV, but they literally grew up together. His videos were more like mini-movies. Does anyone remember "Ghost"? I was watching part of it with some co-workers...The guy loved Halloween!

Really, though! It is rumored that Andrae and Sandra Crouch had an audience with him to receive Christ. I hope so...

Red Devils?

BTW, I agree that both Billie Jean and Beat It were videos that revolutionized the genre for its time as well.

I love Beat It as well.

Billie Jean is one of my favorites as well.

MJ's stuff before History was so well written.

After that, well....

His songwriting seemed to get a little lazy. He went from albums of great stuff to hit-and-miss. I wouldn't be surprised if that's when he started taking those painkillers.

Sigh...

What a waste...

For me it would be:

Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough
Man in the Mirror
Dirty Diana

I was so burned on all of the Thriller songs that I couldn't stand them at the time. The two that I liked best from that one would be Billie Jean - the attitude of it I like , and Thriller though I did always like the long video of Thriller.
