I have some of the covers applied to my side of the bed only. The windows are hard in the winter, but my husband has a lot of trouble sleeping and I don't so I try to let him do the window thing to his preference. The odd thing is, outdoors... especially in the warm months, he wears FAR more clothes than I do!

When I settle in to sleep, I take a reasonable width of cover overhang on my side and actually firmly wedge it under my bottom. That way, even a strong burrito roll won't work. The other stuff, my husband puts me first by not telling me until he's curled up frozen in the fetal position (which means I would be just a bit chilly) I've learned that if I'm chilly, I should do something for his sake.

He's warm blooded, I"m cold blooded. We have an electric blanket with dual controls. Also, I have an extra blanket on my side.

Hubby burrito rolls in "his" blanket with an opening towards me for snuggle purposes. Then we share a sheet and a blanket and I have an extra (throw type) on my side if I get cold. Same in the summer if the A/C is in, if not we just use a sheet. Kris

On a recent trip to San Francisco we stayed in an old, drafty hotel. It was cold, and I was dissatisfied with the share of the covers I ended up with by 3 a.m. or so. Then I tried this: quote:
When I settle in to sleep, I take a reasonable width of cover overhang on my side and actually firmly wedge it under my bottom. It helped.

As one poster said.... Separate Covers. As for temperature related issues. It great that we both are equal in that department. When he hot usually I am too and when he cold I usually am as well but ever a moment I am different I cover up with an extra blanket or sleep without my cover. Needless to say He has his cover and I have mine.

In cold weather we have separate covers. My husband is a blanket hog. When it's warm or hot I don't use a blanket much at all. I need a fan blowing on me if it's above 70° in the bedroom, so he stays wrapped in a blanket. I've also learned that if I'm chilly, my husband must be freezing. We also have an electric blanket with dual controls so that works out well for us.

This is how I solved the problem. We have a Queen size bed. I bought a King size blanket. He can hog it and yet there is still plenty for me. Problem solved. I know blankets are expensive but it was a good investment. Blankets last for years so I did not feel bad splurging on it.

I was fortunate enough to receive this advice before DH and I got married. I'm sure anybody who looked at our registry was confused by the queen-sized sheets and king-sized duvet! It works marvellously in winter. In summer, when we use a thinner, queen-sized quilt (also a wedding gift), not so much. Yesterday morning, I woke up to find all the covers not only on DH's side, but turned upside down! LOL In general, DH is a portable furnace and I am colder, although I tend to overheat in summer. We find we're both comfy in summer at night because we have A/C (DH's allergies would be much much worse with open windows), but in winter I'm usually freezing. Extra covers just don't seem to cut it; I will be shivering and icy from head to toe--especially the toes! Even snuggling with my portable furnace doesn't always warm me up, so I wear fleecy pjs with a hoodie, and fuzzy socks, all winter. DH has learned that if he would like me to wear less on particular occasions , the heat has to go up. I'm thinking a space heater might be a good plan for next winter.

We have two blankets, a big thick comforter that we share, and I have a smaller, thinner blanket just for myself so that I can tuck it around my shoulders the way that I like. I only wish I had thought of doing this years ago. When we were newlyweds, and for years after, I thought all good married couples had to share a blanket. I get hot a lot easier than my husband, so I'm the one who wants the fan on, the window open, and the portable heater turned off. My DH hardly ever thinks it's too hot, lol. In the winter, ok, the spring and autumn too, he puts the space heater on a timer for 1 hour, so it gets nice and warm for him to fall asleep to, but later on the room gets down to a good sleeping temperature for me. In the summer, he lets me turn on the fan or open the window, and he just uses the blanket as he needs too.

And if you think it looks weird to have two, a) most guests don't see your bedroom and b) you can always cover them with a thin queen-sized comforter. I'm still mystified as to how DH got the covers inside out... unless (in his sleep mind you) he reached over, grabbed my corner of the blanket, and pulled the whole thing over himself! More like an omelet than a burrito maybe?

We had a tough time the first year of marriage - DH would roll over one way and take the whole blanket (burrito roll - hahahahaaa! That's great!), and roll over the other way and pull the sheet out from under me. He's a big guy. I was getting up in the middle of the night, getting him up and remaking the bed. Bad times. So DH taught himself to roll in only one direction (to protect the bottom sheet), and we got huge blanket on top. The electric blanket is duel-control (saved many a marriage, I bet). It's much better now. Tiffany, I'm laughing at your 30# of cats! Don't they get irritated when you roll over? They give you The Look. Hahahaa!

We are a two blanket couple as well. Frankly, DH is very fuzzy, and it makes me itch like mad. We solved the "touch" issue quite easily actually. I can still snuggle up on his arm with my head tucked beneath his chin, until he gets too hot, but then he will sneak a paw under my cover and rest it on my hip. We've slept this way for 15 years. In the am, we make the bed, his cover down first, and then mine over top, since mine matches the bedskirt and curtains.

We have a king bed and right now for the summer we sleep with only a sheet. However with just a wall a/c unit in the upstairs where the bedrooms are, many nights we don't sleep with any covers on at all. Problem solved. For the winter, there is no heat up there, so we sleep with a sheet and then two quilts piled on top of each other. Then we snuggle to warm up. I'm usually colder than he, so he warms me up and he stays a little cooler with my frozen toes. No blanket hogs for us, but my one year old is. Rather she will throw the blankets off and before you know it your top half is uncovered and cold.

Snuggling up to my DH, the portable furnace, in winter in bed is one of my favorite things. The funny thing is that I cannot stand to fall asleep snuggled up. I've only done it once, when I was so exhausted I fell asleep first. If DH falls asleep first (which he usually does), he snores in my ear and his body twitches. Not conducive to sleep. The funny thing is that my love language is touch! LOL
